JOB DESCRIPTION / PERSON SPECIFICATION & COMPETENCY FRAMEWORK Job Title Reports To Department Location Membership Development Manager National Network Manager Membership Various Grade 5 JOB DESCRIPTION Reporting to job holder: No direct reports, however, holds responsibility for membership recruitment and retention activity performed by up to c.80 Group Secretaries and up to c.8 County Advisers Main purpose and scope of job: To achieve membership recruitment and retention objectives (including targets) within a defined geographical territory To contribute to the development and enhancement of the NFU s recruitment and retention network including Group Secretary network To advise and work with Regional Directors (RDs), County Advisers (CAs) and NFUM Managers to ensure that Group Secretaries (and if necessary CAs) in the area are motivated, receive training and development and are supported in the achievement of targets Advise and assist RDs and CAs in the performance management of Group Secretaries Levels of authority: Responsible for expenditure of allocated local marketing / incentive scheme budgets In conjunction with RDs and CAs determine the recruitment and retention plan for each region and lead and direct it s delivery Provide direction and advice to Group Secretaries, CAs and RDs Contribute to the development of Group Secretary and CA training and development programmes and their delivery Advise and contribute to Group Secretary recruitment activity strategy and its implementation In conjunction with Line Manager and RD discuss and negotiate with NFUM on issues affecting the Group Secretary network and make recommendations Functional and Managerial responsibilities: Develop and maintain an effective recruitment and retention structure within a defined territory that delivers organisational targets relating to membership and income Membership/Membership Manager/June 2012/v1.0
PAGE 2 OF 6 Develop and maintain effective relationships with NFUM managers Support and advise RDs, CAs and Line Manager to achieve aims and objectives including relationships with NFUM In conjunction with Line Manager contribute to development of NFU Group network structure plan (including staffing, succession planning and recruitment) for each region Complete and lead on a recruitment and retention plan that is consistent with, and meets the requirements of, the NFU s national recruitment and retention plan. This will include setting goals and objectives and, within allocated budgets, costing, proposing and delivering local marketing campaigns Working with RDs and CAs ensure that Group Secretary objectives and targets contribute to achieving national targets and advise on, and monitor the completion of, a membership recruitment and retention plan for each group. Review and analyse the membership performance of Group Offices informing them of their progress. Provide direction and advice on appropriate courses of action to Line Manager, RDs and CAs and, if required, direct to Group Secretaries. To improve performance of Group Offices, support CAs in the implementation of coaching, support, setting short-term goals, reviewing progress and agreeing improvement plans. Subsequently review and analyse the results and, if necessary, make recommendations on escalation In conjunction with Line Manager, Head of Membership, RDs and CAs develop, provide and deliver a programme of training and development for Group Secretaries to include effective completion of induction training for those new to the role. Provide support and advice to Line Manager on the recruitment of Group Secretaries and, where required, participate in assessment days and assist in final Group Secretary interviews in accordance with national procedures. Deliver Corporate Membership and Strategic F&G income, recruitment and retention targets in conjunction with Line Manager, RDs and CAs In conjunction with the marketing department, Headquarters and the Regional Director/team produce recruitment and retention aides promoting regional successes, achievements and success tips to help member-facing staff retain and recruit members Organise recruitment and retention presence at shows/events agreed by Line Manager Attend key member facing shows in the region as agreed by Line Manager Where appropriate, brief and inform regional, county and group officeholders on matters relating to membership, their territories and performance results. Co-operate with Headquarters departments in ensuring that the NFU s computerised database of members interests and skills is constantly updated.
PAGE 3 OF 6 On behalf of Line Manager, Head of Membership, RDs and CAs resolve complex member queries and complaints to include recommending subscription pricing As part performance improvement programme write (and draft letters/emails for Line Manager, Head of Membership, RDs and CAs to send) to members and Group Secretaries on both membership performance and management issues Liaise with Business Services team to resolve performance and member queries Resolve administration, NFU Net and DAT related issues General This job description will develop to meet the needs of the NFU and any additional duties will be commensurate with the post holder s grade.
