DIGITAL AND DATA The Digital and Data function within Chancellery Administration and Finance exists to support the University towards bold, confident and ethical responses to opportunities and risks arising from technology innovation trends and the new ways of operating, working and delivering services they enable. This team is responsible for the setting of the strategic digital and data agenda, governance and policies as they relate to the University s Research, Teaching and Learning, Engagement and Corporate activities. 2
ABOUT THE ROLE Position Purpose: The Digital and Data function has been newly formed and it is expected that the primary focus of this role will initially be to support the Director of Digital and Data to introduce strategies, policies and processes that help develop a sustainable and mature data and information management capability. In particular, this role will support the University s emerging Digital and Data Strategy by: - Foundational contribution to data strategy, policy and governance framework development - Facilitating strategic, business and functional alignment of Data and Information Management - Informing the end-to-end delivery and capability needs to support the strategy - Identifying and (where appropriate) pursuing pilot opportunities that demonstrate value from data and/ or increase a culture of data-driven decisions.. Reporting line: Director of Digital and Data No. of direct reports: 0 No. of indirect reports: 0 Direct budget accountability: TBC Key Dimensions and Responsibilities: Task level: Significant Organisational knowledge: Moderate Judgement: Significant Operational context: Consistent with the mandate of the Digital and Data team, this role will involve broad engagement across the University, however it is expected that there will be particularly close working relationships with portfolio leads in Chancellery, Academic Divisions and Infrastructure Services that have a high involvement in the capture, storage, analysis or management of University data. Core Accountabilities: Act as a subject matter expert in enterprise information architecture and management, and data governance, by developing and contributing to the Data and Information Management strategy, policy and governance frameworks. These result in more confident decisions and, over time, bolder engagement with data. 3
Facilitating strategic, cultural, business and functional alignment of Data and Information Management by providing overall direction, guidance and definition of information architecture to support emerging Digital strategy. Informing end-to-end delivery and capability needs to support the Data and Information aspects of the strategy, including business capability modelling methods where appropriate. Contributing to the development of future state business architecture models demonstrating how products, operations and systems interoperate within the organization in relation to information management and sharing. Ensuring solutions developed across the organization are aligned to Digital and Data standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet financial targets (cost and benefits). Supporting the Director of Digital and Data to identify and prioritise opportunities that create new value from, or increase confidence in, Data and Information Management. Where appropriate, leading the pursuit of such opportunities through the development of pilot or proof of concept trials. Supporting the Director of Digital and Data to set service level agreements for digital and data service requests coming from Chancellery. Develop constructive working relationships with the Business Intelligence and Reporting and Enterprise Architecture team to develop an IT and Enterprise Data Warehouse framework that aligns with the Digital and Data Roadmap. Selection Criteria: Education/Qualifications 1. The appointee will have: a relevant business and/or technology qualification and significant experience working in the data/ business intelligence/ information management domains Knowledge and skills: 2. Communication, facilitation and consensus building 3. Developing value propositions for data and analytics solution areas 4. Strong understanding of the business domain (BI/IM/EDW) 5. Has lead/ played an influential role in data and/ or digital transformation with senior stakeholders and within in a complex organisation 6. Experience in the implementation and/ or governance of master data models 7. Program management 8. Requirements elicitation 9. Sufficient grasp of advanced and cloud analytic trends and emerging database technologies to identify or assess opportunities, patterns, capability requirements, benefits and risks 4
10. Experience applying Agile, Design Thinking or Lean methodologies to projects, solution design, or process improvement. Other job related information: This role will be based at the Parkville University campus, though flexible working arrangements can be discussed. Occasional work out of ordinary hours or interstate or international travel may be required, however this too can be accommodated within a flexible working arrangement where possible and if required. 5
