THE COMPANY Farrans Construction is a long established UK Civil Engineering and Building company operating in various sectors within the UK. A subsidiary of CRH plc, Farrans Construction have a turnover in excess of 250m with over 500 employees. The Role This role provides the opportunity to join a progressive Civil Engineering division working on complex and challenging infrastructure projects. You will help develop and build our presence across England and Wales. This is an exciting time to join the business as we continue to bid and win work across a range of major frameworks and projects. We are active across various sectors of civil engineering, in particular design and construct, including roads and bridges, water and wastewater, marine, energy and general civil engineering. Reporting to the Regional Director the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of a wide variety of projects from the start through to completion. They will be required to lead, manage and coordinate projects to ensure that health and safety, environment, quality, design, procurement, and site operations are managed and executed to the highest standards. Candidates must be technically and commercially astute ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget. They will be a key contact for establishing and maintaining client, supplier and partner collaborative relationships through pre-construction, construction and aftercare. We are seeking an experienced and pragmatic professional to work with the Directors and senior staff to support the continuing growth of the business. This individual must be a proven leader with strong people skills to manage a busy a fast paced working environment. The individual is expected to Promote and maintain awareness and compliance of health, safety and wellbeing in accordance with best practice and legal requirements, striving for zero harm. Manage and monitor site activities and progress of work for quality and environmental requirements. Ensuring that Farrans standards are maintained and enhanced on all projects within their remit. Manage, mentor and develop site teams and individuals ensuring that they are supported, engaged and enabled to successfully complete their role. Provide advice and guidance as required. Achieve key contractual targets in relation to profitability, progress, budget and other related aspects and strive for continuous improvement on performance year on year. Working conditions The successful candidate will be expected to travel extensively as part of their role to construction sites, Company fixed locations or other locations as required by the demands of this role. This role will be mobile, but with a base initially in either of our Woking or Royton offices. Jointly covering, with others the Region covering Central and Southern England and Wales.

Key Responsibilities Management In accordance with corporate responsibility for the business, work effectively to support the Senior Management team and take a Company perspective to managing issues. Ensure implementation and compliance with company Operating Procedures to maintain consistency. Lead teams to ensure best practice is followed, costs are controlled, grow revenue generation and contribution to the Company s operating profit Make sound, evidence based decisions, assessing risks and identifying opportunities. Prepare and present monthly reports as required to internal and external stakeholders. Undertake other managerial tasks and projects as required for the Company, to the time frame agreed. Provide technical support to the Regional Director and leading on all project management issues, whilst developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the clients/customers. Attend managagement meetings reporting on project performance and any current issues that have potential to impact on overall company performance. Identify and support innovation and best practice ensuring knowledge share throughout the business. Ensure full integration with support teams (SHEQ, Commercial, Planning, Design, Procurement, Training and Development) through a collaborative approach. Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Lead, promote and support a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture. Ensure projects are executed in compliance with current legislation, Farrans SHEQ policies, best practice and operating procedures. Undertake Safety Leadership Interaction (SLI) sessions, leading and engaging with the workforce. Ensure cascade of SHEQ statistics and initiatives throughout site teams Ensure that construction phase H&S plan, Environmental Management plan and Quality plan are developed prior to works commencing and periodically reviewed. Attend monthly SHEQ meetings with active involvement in discussions and influencing Company Direction. Establish project specific communication and document control protocols. Review SHEQ audits and ensure that any actions are dealt with and closed out within specified timescales Monitor and inspect development regularly to ensure that all quality control procedures are being adhered to and the highest standards of build are being achieved. Pre-construction Engage with bid teams providing technical and commercial input to support profitable winning bid strategies. Input to development of Risk and Opportunities register and control measures to manage the same. Support the Pre-construction Team providing subject matter expertise and assisting with all aspects of project/tender bid submissions as required Programme Develop and produce construction programmes identifying work sequence, critical path, key milestones to plan and contract completion dates. Identify in advance an information release schedule as required meeting the construction programmes. Monitor and review progress against programme and report as required to Regional Director. Scrutinise design/procurement schedules, look ahead programmes, contractual notices and contract reviews to ensure they are in line with construction programme. Identify key risks to the programme and mitigative measures to control the same. Monitor sub-contractor performance and take action to address any issues.

Commercial & Contractual Work with Commercial team to develop monthly forecast to ensure site and construction costs are being controlled within budget. Review contract documents ensuring projects are being managed in line with contractual requirements and Farrans tender information. Consult with the Commercial team to identify early commercial and contractual risks or opportunities that could be either detrimental or beneficial to project performance. Review costs movements and variation orders to minimise cost whilst ensuring programme and quality is achieved. Review the appointment of sub-contractors ensuring clear scope and that pre-start meetings are undertaken and performance is reviewed and documented. Monitor performance of sub-contractors throughout project ensuring regular reviews are undertaken. Play a lead role managing any commercial reviews and legal matters relating to your projects. People Manage people, resources and relationships efficiently to ensure the effective delivery of programmes and projects. Review resource requirements, identifying needs at earliest opportunity and support Regional Director with selection or recruitment of suitable candidates. Undertake regular capacity and capability planning reviews to ensure that resource allocation is balanced across the region. Provide a vision and define clear team roles, responsibilities and objectives whilst providing a hands-on approach to supporting the Project Team. Champion Company systems relating to staff records (performance, leave, absence etc) ensure that all employees within your region are aware of their responsibilities. Leadership Manage, coach and develop the Farrans team to ensure they provide an increasingly high-quality service. Including providing direction and leadership to deliver planned growth, development, recruitment, training and mentoring of staff. Actively demonstrate the competencies and behaviours developed and take responsibility for your continued development Promote behaviours to influence best performance, including empowering staff to improve scope and capability. Recognise and encourage excellent performance. Ensure that poor performance is managed via support, training or disciplinary action as appropriate. Review training needs and collaborate with Training and Development team in ensuring that appropriate and relevant training is provided. Lead and promote the Focus staff development review process ensuring completion of the same to the standards required by the company. Develop a strong team working relationships with your designated region and promote effective communication between projects and regional office. Establish, maintain and foster professional and positive relationships with clients, consultant teams and supply chain. Promote the Farrans brand and actively seek out and report on any prospective business lead. Personnel Specification Essential Qualifications Educated to degree level in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent qualification. Candidates without this level of education may be considered if they can demonstrate suitable work experience as deemed appropriate by Management. Desirable ICE, RICS or CIOB qualification Appropriate and Valid CSCS Card Full Driving Licence Experience At least ten years experience working in construction. Senior level management experience and capability Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook, Proven track record of managing multiple projects.
