Agriculture Sector in Pakistan An Overview Agriculture is a vital sector of Pakistan's economy and accounts for 21 percent of GDP, according to government estimates. The sector directly supports three-quarters of the country's population, employs half the labor force, and contributes a large share of foreign exchange earnings. The main agricultural products are cotton, wheat, rice, sugarcane, fruit and vegetables, in addition to milk, beef, mutton, and poultry. Pakistan depends on one of the world's largest irrigation systems to support production.

Pakistan s largest export commodity is rice, and it is ranked 11 th in world rice production. 5 th largest producer of sugarcane Pakistan is the largest producer of kinnows, the 5 th largest producer of dates and the 6 th largest producer of mangoes. DAWN PAKISTAN AGRI EXPO & CONFERENCE Largest Agricultural Exposition held in Karachi & Lahore in February 2012 and in Lahore only in April 2013.
