Turn your hand to the housebuilding industry When it comes to building a home for our customers, it s a cross-functional affair across the whole of Barratt Developments. No team works in isolation, instead we tap into the expertise we have at each stage to build the best homes possible. Land & Planning team In consultation with the Sales & Marketing team they source and buy the right land in the right location, which is crucial to creating great places to live. Roles: land buyer, planner Construction team The Site Management team work with our subcontractors to complete each build stage, which includes brickwork, carpentry/ joinery and plumbing. They re responsible for the health and safety of our people and customers on site. Roles: site manager, tradesperson Technical team Working alongside the Land & Planning team, they prepare draft designs and later down the line, create a site layout. They provide engineering reports and support throughout all the stages of the build Roles: engineer, architect Sales & Marketing team This team looks after the customer by ensuring they have all the information they need to make one of the biggest decisions of their lives buying a new home. Roles: sales adviser, sales manager, marketing executive Commercial team Using the information from Technical, this team supports in identifying the land value. They source and purchase the components and appoint subcontractors for each development, whilst monitoring costs and budgets. Roles: quantity surveyor, buyer Customer Service team This department ensures our customers receive the best possible experience throughout their journey from purchase to moving in and beyond. Finance team This team provides guidance on financial strategy, prepares financial accounts, keeps an eye on financial targets and ensures we meet regulations. The finance team are involved in each stage of our journey. Roles: purchase ledger clerk, accountant, finance manager Office Support team Based in our group support centre, and in our 27 offices around the country, there are a number of roles that support all of our teams in their everyday activities. Apprentices and Trainees Apprenticeships kick-start any career. Combining education and on-the-job training, you ll earn while you learn to become an expert in the construction industry. Choice of programmes tailored to your strengths and interests Opportunities to progress many of our managers and directors started their careers as apprentices and are still with the company today For you For a 16 year old in Engalnd & Wales*, you ll earn a minimum starting salary of 9,200. If you join when you are 17 or over, the starting salary increases. Your salary will rise to between 12,500 and 16,500 during your second year, 16,500 to 19,000 after the first two years, and to around 23,300 on qualifying at Level 3. No student debt! For us We re looking for candidates with a good all-round education who are willing to carry on learning. From you, we want plenty of energy, initiative and commitment, and from us, you ll get the tools you need to be a success literally! 25k 20k 15k 10k 0 Apprenticeship salary 9.2k Starting 16.5k Year 2 23.3k Qualified Level 2 Entry Intermediate Trade Apprenticeship (England & Wales) Two-year programme. Combine college study with practical training all on-site training is provided by dedicated and experienced trade specialists. Achieve NVQ and Diploma qualifications in bricklaying or carpentry/joinery. Level 3 Entry Advanced Trade Apprenticeship (England, Wales & Scotland) Continue college study and practical training for an additional year. Achieve Level 3 NVQ and Diploma qualifications in your specialist trade. In Scotland you will enter here on a fouryear apprenticeship to achieve your SVQ in bricklaying or carpentry/joinery Your progress, your choice After completing your Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, you might work for one of our subcontractors or work for us permanently in your specialist trade. Alternatively, you might decide to progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Following this, you could decide to enter the supply chain as a qualified tradesperson, or you might explore the option to progress into a site management role through one of our programmes, including our sponsored degree in Residential Development and Construction. Level 3 Entry Technical Advanced Apprenticeship Two-year programme. Option to specialise in quantity. surveying, engineering, buying, design, or site management. Achieve Level 3 S/NVQ and a BTEC in a Contracting Operations Pathway through training at college. Minimum of 5 GCSE s A-C including Maths and English you might also have A-Levels. Following a Level 3 Technical Advanced Apprenticeship, you ll continue your development through our trainee programme, which could lead to further and higher level qualifications. We work in partnership with CITB so you ll need to be registered with them too. You ll need a minimum of 5 GSCEs A-C, plus a higher level qualifications in a construction-related subject. Study at college or university to achieve qualifications such as HNC (Level 4), HND or Foundation Degree (Level 5) or a Bachelors Degree (Level 6) through day/block release or distance learning. Enhanced by on-the-job learning and personal development modules. Roles in quantity surveying, buying, design or engineering. Sponsored Degrees We believe in investing in our people, helping them to reach their career goals through working for us. That s where our Sponsored Degrees come in. A strong combination of on-the-job and academic learning trainees on these courses gain a degree while also gaining invaluable work experience. Sponsored Construction Degree In collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University, we offer a bespoke Foundation Degree helping you to develop the qualities and skills to excel in the housebuilding industry. This Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) accredited course focuses on the principles of housebuilding, skills and knowledge of residential construction techniques and their practical use, enabling you to gain a sound technical and academic education to further your career in the housebuilding industry. Alongside the Foundation Degree, you ll take up the role of Trainee Assistant Site Manager, where you ll be supported by your own Barratt mentor. During the programme, if you are performing well, you will be appointed as an assistant site manager, then site manager and beyond... An annual starting salary between 19,000 and 24,000 depending on location and experience (negotiable for those who bring management/leadership experience from other industries, for example ex-forces personnel). Hands-on experience from day one assisting the site manager in leading the development of the site through to completion. Payment of tuition fees. Three-year course resulting in a CIOB accredited Foundation Degree in Residential Development and Construction. The option to top-up to a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and CIOB accredited BSc (Hons) Degree over a further 18 months. We re looking for ambitious individuals with fresh ideas and imagination, who have the drive to learn about managing people, budgets and costs. One A-Level and four GCSE Grade C or above including English and Maths, OR HNC/HND in Building Construction, a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in building, construction or civil engineering OR Level 3 Diploma in construction or built environment. OR Other access or foundation course qualifications, included armed forces qualifications. This degree gives our people the opportunity to progress while remaining in their role with us wherever they are in the country. A four-year course resulting in a Level 6 BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying. Payment of tuition fees. Our most promising trainees are put forward to the sponsored degree in Quantity Surveying to accelerate their progression with industryrecognised qualifications. 230 UCAS points (e.g. A-Levels, BTECs) or an equivalent level not included in the UCAS tariff. OR Qualifications including HNDs, HNCs, and professional qualifications from recognised institutions, armed forces qualifications and partially completed degrees. ASPIRE This is a two-year programme, aiming to develop managers and leaders of the future. The next step is an assessment centre, testing how you react to a working environment. This consists of a competency-based interview, presentations and role play, before a final interview with a director at the local office.
