Trieste Free Port Zone Unique among all Italian Ports In the Free Port of Trieste, unlike all Italian ports, for goods imported into the EU through the Free Port, all Customs duties payments (VAT, excise duties or other equivalent taxes) can be delayed up to 6 months at a low rate of interest. Goods comming from EU Countries are regarded as exports having effectively exited the European Community upon entering the Free Port Zone. Goods arriving from non-eu Countries are considered in transit and are exempt from duty as long as they remain within the Free Port Area. Also goods travelling by rail can benefit of the simplified Custom status (RDF). Commercial vehicles comming from or bound to the Port of Trieste across Italy s borders with Austria and Slovenia benefit from facilitated transit. There is a considerable reduction of port taxes on goods loaded/unloaded on /from ships in the Free Port of Trieste.
