Where additional layers of Armaflex (closed cell) thermal insulation are required, the additional layers of insulation shall be installed to the procedures, as contained within the Armacell Armaflex Application Manual or Cold Work Application Manual. Where applicable, but not limited to; For Client Project Insulation Specification(s): Armacell Installation Processing Specification(s) - (IPS) shall be used for reference and specific detail(s) of the installation procedure. Installation of Armaflex (closed cell) layer Armaflex shall be installed according to the recommendations given in the current version of the Armaflex Installation Manual. In addition, any client Insulation Project Specifications or any accompanying Armacell - (IPS) Installation Processing Specifications issued for the project shall also be implemented into the scope of works. All materials shall be kept free from contamination and shall be clean, dry and damage free. 4. No PVC tape or any form of self adhesive tapes shall be installed on any seams or joints without the written permission of but not limited to - the client, specifies, main contractor or Armacell. The following shall be implemented as a minimum: 1. When the insulated pipe work or equipment with an outer diameter greater than 500mm Armaflex sheet materials shall be installed with all over adhesive coverage to both the Armaflex surface and the underlaying substrate on the bottom ¼ for all horizontal piping equipment. Important note: Flat surfaces and ALL vertically positioned piping equipment - regardless of size, shall also require all-over adhesive coverage to all contacting surfaces. 2. All seams and joints shall be staggered on all layers. All Armaflex shall be fitted under compression on all butt joints. Note: It is very important that all material layers are fitted under compression with no gaps present. The installation of materials shall be treated as cold work process at all times. 3. All butt joints, where applicable within the line temperature range between +150 C and -50 C* shall be adhered to the pipe/underlying insulated pipe work and wet sealed with the correct type of Armaflex Adhesive as per the Armaflex Installation Manual and other supporting documents (IPS) from Armacell. * For temperatures at or below -50 ºC please see our Cold Work Application Manual. For temperatures above +125 ºC please consult our Technical Department. INSTALLATION OF ARMASOUND RD 240 (OPEN CELL) LAYER ArmaSound RD 240 shall always be installed as according to the recommendations for fixing, vapour sealing and various fabrication techniques given for Armaflex sheet in the Armaflex Installation Manual. In addition, any client Insulation Project Specifications or any accompanying Armacell - (IPS) Installation Processing Specifications issued for the project shall also be implemented into the scope of works where applicable. All materials shall be kept free from contamination and shall be clean, dry and damage free during construction and when in storage. The following recommendations shall also be implemented: 1. All over adhesive coverage is required on flat surfaces, vessels and all vertical piping equipment. Note: The requirement for all over adhesive coverage on pipes with diameters greater than 500mm does not apply to this ArmaSound RD 240 layer on horizontal piping equipment, unless requested by the project owner / client. 2. All ArmaSound RD 240 shall be fitted under compression on all butt joints. ARMACELL INTERNATIONAL GMBH ArmaSound 3

Where possible seams and joints shall be kept to a minimum. 5. No PVC tape or any form of self adhesive tapes shall be installed on any seams or joints without the written permission of but not limited to - the client, specifies, main contractor or Armacell. 6. Armaflex Adhesive shall be used on all fixing seams and joints on straight lines and other pipe work fitting fabrications. In addition, any seams and joints that have gaps shall be filled with Arma-Chek mastic. 7. All ArmaSound RD 240 materials shall be finally secured with 20mm wide by (0.50mm) thick type 304 stainless steel bands and wing seal fixings. Stainless stell bands to be installed at 250mm intervals. For bends 8. When processing and installing ArmaSound RD 240 materials onto bend fittings, the ArmaSound RD 240 sheet can either be constructed into segments or in the two piece Armaflex fitting cover method. The fabrications shall be finally secured with 20mm wide stainless band fixings. All seams and joints be bonded together with Armaflex adhesive. Note: Stainless steel band fixings shall be used for fixing security of the material on all vertical; and horizontal piping equipment, including fittings, flat surface and vessel equipment. 9. Any gaps present around the installed segmented bend fabrications shall be filled with Arma-Chek mastic. All mastic shall be allowed to dry before covering with additional layers of insulation materials. 10.No PVC tape or any form of self adhesive tapes shall be installed on any seams or joints without the written permission of but not limited to - the client, specifies, main contractor or Armacell. 11. Vertically positioned bends all segment fabrications shall also be fully fixed down with all over adhesive coverage to both contacting surfaces. In addition, all vertically positioned fittings shall also be secularly fixed down with all over adhesive coverage to both contacting surfaces. 12. Avoid using damaged material! INSTALLATION OF ArmaSound Barrier E Where the ArmaSound Barrier E material is required, the following application process shall be followed. All materials shall be kept free from contamination and shall be clean, dry and damage free. 1. The ArmaSound Barrier E shall be applied, fixed and secured tightly around the insulated equipment throughout. The materials shall be arranged and installed to allow for water run-off, with all overlaps fixed down using Armaflex Adhesive. (See below). 2. All fabricated items, where applicable shall have a minimum of 50mm overlapping on all seam and butt jointing details. All overlaps shall be secularly fixed and sealed down; using the projects specified Armaflex Adhesive. 3. The ArmaSound Barrier E shall be finally secured with 20mm wide by (0.50mm) thick. Type 304 stainless steel bands and wing seal fixings. Each one-metre length shall have a minimum of 3 fixing bands installed. Note: All butt jointing overlaps, on all vertical piping shall have additional band/s installed. The ArmaSound Barrier E shall at all times be installed to avoid insulation slipping on all piping equipment arrangements. Also see 6. Below. Important Note: In addition, any other mechanical supporting implementations stated within the client s Insulation Project Specification shall also be included within the scope of works. 4. The ArmaSound Barrier E - seam and butt jointing details shall be staggered away from the underlaying insulation seam details, and be positioned to avoid a direct pathway for possible water ingression in external locations. 5. All over adhesive coverage is required to both contacting surfaces on flat surfaces, vessels and ALL vertical piping equipment regardless of pipe size. In addition, the ArmaSound Barrier E shall be additionally supported using S clips on each fabricated section. A minimum of 4 stainless steel S clips shall be used around the circumference of the fabricated section. All ArmaSound Barrier E shall have stainless steel bands installed as required in 3.above within this section. 6. Vertically positioned bends all segment fabrications shall also be secularly fixed down to the under-laying insulation type, with all over adhesive coverage to both contacting surfaces. In addition, all vertically positioned fittings shall also be secularly fixed down with all over adhesive coverage to both contacting surfaces. 7. All segments shall overlap each other by a minimum of 10mm and be arranged to shed water away from the joints. Each segment fabrication shall be fully sealed, and finally secured with the stainless steel bands and wing seal fixings. 8. No PVC tape or any form of self adhesive tapes shall be installed to secure and fix the ArmaSound Barrier E without the written permission of but not limited to - the client, specifies, main contractor and Armacell in all situations. Installation of Arma-Chek R (outer jacketing) Arma-Chek R jacketing. shall be installed as detailed within the current version of the Arma-Chek R Installation Manual and any other supporting project specifications issued relating to the installation of Arma-Chek R jacketing. All materials shall be kept free from contamination and shall be clean, dry and damage free. The following shall be implemented as a minimum: 1. All Arma-Chek R shall be fixed to all under-laying insulation with all over adhesive coverage on both fixing surfaces, when the pipe work installations outer diameter is above 500mm. All flat surface applications and ALL vertically positioned piping equipment shall also have all over adhesive coverage to both contacting surfaces. Note: It is not recommended to spot apply the adhesive in any situation. 2. All fixing seams and butt joint overlap details shall be a minimum of 50mm. For larger bore piping equipment the overlap size is increased. outer - insulated pipe (mm) min. required overlap (mm) 10-150 50 150-200 75 200-400 100 400-500 125 500 and above 150 Flat surface 50 3. All bend and fitting fabrications shall be installed as per Arma-Chek installation manual. Always allow a minimum of 10mm overlap on segment fabrications on bend applications. 4. All bend and fitting fabrications shall be installed with all over adhesive coverage on both fixing surfaces. Note: It is not recommended to spot apply the adhesive in any situation. 5. All overlaps shall have Armaflex Adhesive applied to both overlapping surfaces and allow to tack dry following instructions of the Arma-Chek installation manual. 6. All bend and fitting fabrications shall be installed as per Arma-Chek installation manual. Always allow a minimum of 10mm overlap on segment fabrications on bend applications. 7. All bend and fitting fabrications shall be installed with all over adhesive coverage on both fixing surfaces. Note: It is not recommended to spot apply the adhesive in any situation. 8. On the final outer Arma-Chek R jacketing layer, apply a bead of Arma-Chek mastic, minimum 10mm wide - 3mm thick, to all seams and joints in order to finish the installation process. Note: Before applying the bead of mastic to all fixing seams and joints, the surface of the Arma-Chek R shall be pre-cleaned around the seam and jointing area s using Armaflex Cleaner or local approved solvent Cleaner. PIPE SUPPORTS & STEEL WORK 1. In situations where there are piping load bearing supports and steel work clash, and the complete specified insulation thickness cannot be implemented, due to space restrictions, the insulation layer shall, where applicable, be cut around the steel leg support. The cut outs shall be neat/tidy and accurate with no gaps present. 2. The cut out details shall be sealed at all times with Armaflex Adhesive / Arma-Chek mastic. 3. Where applicable and required, for optimum performance, in order to avoid acoustic and thermal bridging, all steel work that is directly attached to the main piping equipment shall be insulated to the same thickness and product combination as indicated within the Clients Project Insulation Specification. In addition, where required valves and flanges can be insulated with the same thickness and material combinations as the connecting pipe. The insulation layers, follow the contours of the equipment. Storage of Armacell products Store in a safe place, following all procedures of the client and Armacell relating to Health + Safety, storage and handling procedures. REFERENCE Armaflex Installation Manual Arma-Chek R - Installation Manual Armaflex Cold Work Application Manual 4. Final system appearance All unwanted Armaflex Adhesive marks and spillages on the final outer Arma-Chek R covering layer shall be easily cleaned away using Armaflex Cleaner applied using a clean cloth. It is recommended that this procedure be followed whilst cleaning the seam and joint details prior to applying the mastic as the final application detail of the insulation system. Note: Ensure the Armaflex Cleaner has dried away, before applying the mastic. This should take 1-3 minutes for the solvents to evaporate depending on the ambient air temperature. INSULATION OF VALVES WITH ARMASOUND INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS For the acoustic treatment of valves, please refer to the Armacell Installation Processing Specification document where applicable. In addition, where valves and flanges are to be insulated with the same insulation system as the connecting pipe, the insulation layers should follow the contours of the equipment. Armacell - Installation Processing Specification (IPS). Project specific issue. NOTE: In order to gain the maximum performance from both the materials and the acoustic value requirements it is important that a high standard of workmanship is achieved during this type of application. All installers are advised to receive or attended an Armacell Installation Training Course and be certificated / approved before commencing the application process as detailed above. 6 ArmaSound ARMACELL INTERNATIONAL GMBH
