SA S REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUSTRALIA BOARDS

2036 WILL MARK OUR STATE S BICENTENARY By the time our State turns 200 years old, I want South Australia to be a place of prosperity. Planning and delivering on my vision for a better future starts now. This policy is just one part of our plan to deliver a clear and responsible pathway to recovery and success. See where it fits in below 1.0 GROWING OUR ECONOMY 1.3 Investing in programs to increase export potential of businesses to drive sales and opportunities 1.6 Unlocking the resources and production of our regional areas and ensuring growth opportunities for regional businesses and industry 2.0 THE BEST EDUCATION SYSTEM 3.0 BEING A HEALTHY STATE 4.0 STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES 5.0 BUILDING OUR STATE 5.1 Taking a strategic focus on the future to plan for and deliver on the needs of South Australia in an efficient and sustainable way 5.3 Working in partnerships to grow jobs and deliver real outcomes for South Australia 6.0 ENSURING SAFETY AND JUSTICE 7.0 PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT 8.0 EMBRACING OUR UNIQUE CULTURE 9.0 RUNNING AN EFFICIENT AND STABLE GOVERNMENT

Our Regional Development Australia Boards do a great job in supporting economic development and job creation but they could be even more effective with greater funding certainty.

THE OPPORTUNITY South Australia has eight Regional Development Australia Boards (RDA) working in partnership with federal state and local governments to support the economic development of their regions and the state more broadly. The RDAs are: Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island Adelaide Metropolitan Barossa Far North Limestone Coast Murraylands and Riverland Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula Yorke and Mid North The RDAs: Are responsible for detailed regional plans that focus on the economic development of their region, taking into account relevant Commonwealth, State and Local Government plans Provide independent advice to all three levels of government on critical issues affecting their region Work closely with community leaders to identify funding sources and develop project proposals to support economic growth Promote awareness of government programs Stable funding will allow our Regional Development Associations to better better serve their communities. The current agreement the RDAs have with the South Australian Government expires this financial year. A more secure funding arrangement would enable the RDAs to work more effectively on behalf of their regions and enhance the valuable planning, advisory and advocacy services they provide.

THE STATE LIBERALS PLAN We will ensure that RDA s are given a long term funding commitment. Under this arrangement, each RDA will be required to submit a four-year business plan. This arrangement will enhance collaboration between the RDAs, encouraging them to undertake work on a wider range of cross-regional issues and economic development projects. If elected in March 2018 a Marshall Liberal Government will enter a longer term agreement with the RDAs under which State funding of $3 m per annum will be provided in each of the 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 financial years.

We will enter into a four year funding agreement with our Regional Development Australia Boards to enhance their contribution to positive economic outcomes for our regions. Steven Marshall, State Liberal Leader
