PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS SECTION: This section is highlights how you are qualified for the job use the job description to assist you. Usually 5-7 bullets (no more than 10). Highlight your key achievements, skills, traits and experiences that are relevant to the position for which you are applying. This assists the employer, at first glance, in knowing how you are qualified for the job.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE SECTION: This section describes your skills, abilities and accomplishments to the employer. Work, volunteer and internship experience is considered Professional Experience. All accomplishment statements should begin with an Action Verb! You will need to decide which format to choose; Chronological, Functional or Hybrid.

CHRONOLOGICAL: List employment in reverse order, with the most recent job at the top. Give employer, position held, and dates of employment. Describe each position according to what you have accomplished: list tasks performed, emphasizing those requiring the highest level of skill, responsibility and judgment. Begin each phrase with an action verb, i.e. managed, organized, updated, etc. Quantify and qualify your accomplishments, i.e. "surpassed sales quota by 15%," "trained and supervised 5 employees," "maintained average caseload of 85 clients." Use descriptive statements that highlight your skills and abilities learned on the job. **Make sure your bullet points reflect transferable skills relevant to the job description.**

FUNCTIONAL: Group your work accomplishments, responsibilities, and duties according to functional skill areas/ themes such as "Teaching and Training," "Managerial Skills," "Sales." Choose your skill headings according to your job objective and briefly describe, using action statements, the work you did in each of the broad categories you identify. For example, if you did financial analysis and planning in previous positions, describe these responsibilities under the heading "Financial Planning" and treat your experience in this area as one complete unit. Work experience can be briefly listed in reverse chronological order (present to past) after your work accomplishments.
