The tank is the biggest of its kind ever produced by HOBAS Austria. It does not only provide a great lot of room for water, but also for profound technical know-how and a considerable number of advantages. Leak tightness, a very long service life, low maintenance, and flexible expandability: The reasons for the municipality of Pitomača and Hrvatske Vode, the Croatian entity for water management, to choose HOBAS Products for their potable water project were manifold. With highest quality, abrasion and corrosion resistance, and a lifetime of more than 50 years, the GRP solution offered by HOBAS was clearly on the winning side. HOBAS Austria designed and supplied a potable water tank with a capacity of 1000 m³ the biggest ever produced by the organisation and also the biggest ever installed in this part of the world up to now. In efficient cooperation with Hidroprojekt-ing projektiranje d.o.o. and the constructor Brana d.o.o, six parallel pipelines and a valve chamber DN 2555 covering an area of roughly 19 x 39 m were installed within a record time of five days the minimum installation time for a comparable concrete alternative would have been six months. And the installation time could have even been one or two days shorter, had it not been for the tank s location: It was layed on a hill E Pipes International Pischeldorfer Str. 128 9020 Klagenfurt AT T +43.463.48 24 24 F +43.463.48 21 21 info@hobas.com www.hobas.com

Designer Hidroprojekt-ing projektiranje d.o.o. Advantages Possibility of subsequent expansion, fast and easy installation, very long service life in a place inaccessible for big trucks. The pipe sections therefore had to be temporarily stored a few kilometers away from the installation site and then reloaded to smaller trucks that could manage the narrow, unpaved road uphill. The reliable and watertight HOBAS GRP Solution provides further significant advantages in terms of safety: With concrete, the risk of wall cracks due to ground settlement is relatively high and watertightness can therefore be a serious issue. HOBAS Experts accompanied the whole installation process on site with their help and advice. Before the potable water tank was put into operation, the watertightness of the GRP system was successfully tested by means of air pressure. The clients are very satisfied with their HOBAS Solution. h PipeLine Issue 7/2016 Page 03 100 m³ Water Tank for 510 Residents h Potable Water Tank installed in the course of one morning, CH In the rural municipality of Chevilly which is located in the Swiss Canton of Vaud, a HOBAS Potable Water Tank ensures reliable water supply for the 250 local inhabitants as well as the similarly sized neighboring municipality. The old cast iron pipeline network as well as an aged potable water reservoir in the small Swiss municipality of Chevilly had been causing trouble for some time already. Contaminations, ruptures, and similar issues eventually lead to the municipality s decision to renew the old pipe systems. It was agreed to tackle this challenge together with the neighboring municipality of Moiry which, with 260 inhabitants, is about the same size as Chevilly. The commissioned engineering office NF Nicolas Fehlmann SA contacted HOBAS Switzerland regarding the supply of a new and sufficiently large GRP potable water tank with a capacity of 100 m³. The reservoir was realized at the production plant in Austria: It consists of a 25 m long water chamber as well as a 7 m valve chamber made of HOBAS GRP Pipes DN 2555 SN 5000. It was delivered to the construction site in Chevilly in the morning of April 7, 2016. The entire tank was installed on a 40 cm gravel bedding and with a slope of 0.5 % to allow for a complete discharge in the case of maintenance works. The pipes were coupled with the help of chain hoists and installation works were successfully finished after just a few hours, at noon of the same day. (continue on next page) Year of Construction 2016 Construction Time 4.5 hours Storage Capacity 100 m³ Diameter DN 2555 Stiffness Class SN 5000 Client Municipality of Chevilly Designer NF Nicolas Fehlmann SA Advantages Very fast installation within 0.5 days only, reliable water supply for two municipalities The new potable water tank can be accessed through a door via a concrete structure. The tank will reliably cover the local inhabitant s daily drinking water needs for many years to come. The existing old tank continues to serve as fire water reservoir. h PipeLine Issue 7/2016 Page 04 From Spring to Reservoir... HOBAS offers a wide range of standard and custom-tailored products for the extraction of potable water as well as its storage and supply, thereby providing for a fully reliable system. In mountainous regions such as in the Alps and pre-alpine regions, water is sourced from springs. Unlike in groundwater extraction, there is no need to pump the water since it flows through filter pipes into lower-lying spring water collection shafts, where it is cleaned from sand and suspended solids through sedimentation. Once extracted, spring and ground water are fed into the drinking water supply network. The water is usually stored in a reservoir from which it is then supplied to the general public on demand. HOBAS Potable Water Tanks have already proven their worth especially in remote areas or locations that are difficult to access. With capacities from five to several hundred cubic meters, we offer a wide range of prefabricated, turn-key potable water storage solutions. This means that each reservoir is custom-tailored and delivered to the construction site in prefabricated units and with all pre-installed features (e.g. access, valve chamber). Thanks to convenient push-to-fit couplings and the pipe materials low weight, HOBAS Potable Water Tanks can be installed without heavy-duty lifting devices. h PipeLine Issue 7/2016 Page 05...in Record Pace HOBAS delivers just-in-time and thereby obviates the need for storage areas. The modular design of HOBAS Potable Water Tanks allows for the installation to be completed within a few hours only with a readily prepared bedding. An excellent example showcasing these benefits is a potable water tank with 600 m³ which was installed in Lower Austria in merely 11 hours. h PipeLine Issue 7/2016 Page 06 600,000 Liters in 11 Hours Installation of h Potable Water Tank in minimum time, AT Year of Construction 2012 Construction Time 11 hours Storage Capacity 600 m³ Diameter DN 2555 Constructor Swietelsky Baugesellschaft mbh Designer Hydro Ingenieure Umwelttechnik GmbH Contractor Colas Alterra Zrt Advantages Simple and fast installation, low weight, subsequent expansion possible In order to meet the increasing regional demands for drinking water for the next decades, the municipality of Ottenschlag in Lower Austria installed a new elevated potable water tank with a capacity of 600 m³ in 2012. It ensures a reliable drinking water supply during peak periods (e.g. in summer), serves for bridging downtimes, and functions as operating and firefighting water reserve. The installation of the tank took no more than eleven hours. The engineering office Hydro Ingenieure Umwelttechnik GmbH was commissioned with the design of the a new drinking water reservoir for the municipality of Ottenschlag. They opted for a potable water tank by HOBAS which is custom-tailored to the individual project requirements and easy to install due to its low weight and modular structure. In case of a future demand for further storage capacity, the reservoir can also be easily expanded at a later date. The excavation and construction works were realized by the company Swietelsky Baugesellschaft mbh. The tank consists of four 36 m long chambers with a diameter of DN 2555 and a capacity of 150 m³ each, as well as a 12 m valve chamber which contains all technical devices. The latter includes valves for the water in- and outlet as well as discharge, an overflow pipe, backflow traps, and water meters. The valve chamber can be accessed through stainless steel doors with air slots. The inspection entries for maintenance works are equipped with windows for visual control.

h PipeLine Issue 7/2016 Page 07 A GRP shaft DN 3000 containing a booster station is connected to the valve chamber. The booster station serves for supplying the higher zones and contains three speed-controlled pumps: One pump operates continuously, the second one can be switched on in peak times, and the third can be additionally taken into operation in the case of a fire. The HOBAS GRP Tank Modules were assembled on site and installed on a gravel bedding with a 1.20 m cover layer. The entire installation process took no longer than eleven hours. The leak-proof tank prevents the crystalclear drinking water from seeping out and potentially contaminated groundwater from entering the structure. Furthermore, it is corrosion and abrasion resistant and scores with a long and largely maintenance-free lifetime. The tank thereby plays an important role in the safe future potable water supply of the municipality of Ottenschlag. Fmd: hobas.austria@hobas.com

h PipeLine Issue 7/2016 Page 08 280 m³ Safe Drinking Water Storage h GRP Tank installed in Thal, AT Year of Construction 2015 Construction Time 2 days Storage Capacity 280 m³ (2 x 140 m³) Diameter DN 3000 Client Mandlbauer Bau GmbH Designer Engineering office Herbert Pöcheim Advantages Prefabricated modules, low weight, just-in-time delivery, quick installation, corrosion and abrasion resistance, long lifetime In the municipality of Thal in the Austrian region of Styria, a 280 m³ HOBAS Potable Water Tank was installed to enable a reliable future water supply. HOBAS Installation Experts were faced with challenging site conditions which they managed perfectly and completed the project within two days. The inhabitants of Thal are pleased about a safe and smooth supply with crystal-clear drinking water: Since 2015, they can rely upon a custom-made HOBAS GRP Tank with 280 (2 x 140) m³. The reservoir was adapted to the project requirements, which involved a quite challenging installation process. For one thing, the space on site was very limited, and secondly, it could only be reached via a steep and narrow road. The road s gradient with up to 21 % could only be managed by a tractor, which transported the DN 3000 modules one by one and just-intime uphill to the construction site. The tank units were then lowered into the 4.5 m deep construction pit which was filled with standard bedding material gravel with a grain size of 8 to 16 mm. Due to their low weight and the convenient push-to-fit couplings, the installation took no more than two days despite the difficult circumstances. The leak-tight and corrosion resistant HOBAS Tank prevents leaking of the stored drinking water as well as infiltrations of the surrounding groundwater. Its abrasion and corrosion resistance result in a problem-free operation over a long lifetime. If more capacity is needed at some point in the future, the tank can easily be expanded at any time. HOBAS Experts supervised the installation on site and supported the constrution team with their professional know-how. The project was completed to the client s utmost satisfaction.
