WORK BASED ASSESSOR/TRAINER JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Details Post: Assessor/Trainer Grade: Pay Scale Range Points: 20 to 30 Responsible to: Key Purpose: Specific Responsibilities Work Based Learning Manager Recruit, manage, assess and train a caseload of learners who are currently considering or wishing to apply for Apprenticeship or other current work based learning programme(s). Ensure that the recruitment and success rates of learners are at or above the level set by the College. 1. To provide induction, initial assessment, advice and guidance to learners who are wishing to undertake Apprenticeships and NVQ s Help recruit learners onto a pre-apprenticeship programme Prepare and give advice on the application and techniques for apprenticeships. Support, advice and assist learners during their training. Deal with queries when supervising learners. Participate in the promotional and marketing aspects of the college. prospective Undertake initial assessment of learners and assist in the learner actions planning 2. To assess learners progress and maintain records of assessments of learning carried out. Maintain accurate records of learner assessments and achievements. Accredit successful completion of learner tasks including work based activities in line with college assessment and verification policy, completing all related administrative activities. Deliver workshops, one to one instruction and/or training sessions relating to knowledge and skills development. Maintain efficient record keeping and tracking systems using the systems provided and stipulated by the College and report agreed targets in a timely manner against agreed deadlines. This to include withdrawals; transfers; assessment and examination results; updating of information held in the college information system to enable the tracking of learner progress on a real time basis. Conduct assessment, evaluation and progress reviews as appropriate. Provide regular and purposeful reports to employers, apprentices, learners and the College so that there is a clear plan of action which is time bound for each learner and which allows completion with agreed target dates.

3. To ensure that individual students learning needs are met through the provision of: Learning support i.e. Literacy, Numeracy, Language and ICT. Learner Support. 4. To attend appropriate meetings: Centre meetings; IV and EV meetings; department and management meetings (where appropriate) and staff development activities. College open evenings as required. 5. Safeguarding responsibilities: Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons in line with College Policy. 6. Health and Safety responsibilities: To observe and keep aware of Health and Safety documentation and procedures in line with College policy. Professional Conduct Assessor/Trainers are expected to: Start sessions on time Give good notice of any absence and in accordance with the College s Absence management procedure Keep up to date with developments in their subject area Participate in ongoing staff development and training opportunities as far as possible Participate in the College Performance Appraisal System. Keep accurate and up to date registers Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in College policies and procedures (e.g. health and safety, equality and diversity etc.) Be involved in the College s quality assurance arrangements (Induction, Lesson Observation, Appraisal and gathering/analysing feedback from your students with a view to implementing continual improvement to your course on an ongoing/annual basis.) Participate in a customer centred approach to service delivery Be involved in any Inspection of the College by the OFSTED To work flexibly and efficiently, to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College and make the most efficient and effective use of College resources. It is expected that the appointee will work in close liaison with the College s Service To Business department to develop and regularly update Individual Learning Plans (ILP s) for each learner. Incorporate the findings of the initial assessment and initiate Skills for Life/Learning support as needed, differentiating the learning programme in light of that assessment.

General Liaise with the Work Based Learning Manager, customer relationship manager, team leader, internal verifiers, external verifiers and awarding bodies. Assist in the production of reports, statistics, statements, statutory returns and other documentation as required by the Principal, College Management, the Corporation, Government Departments and other external agencies. Work to a range of performance indicators relevant to the services provided by the Department in order to ensure continuous quality improvement. Assist with the implementation of plans and systems as specified within the Total Quality/Continuous Improvement Strategy. Be conversant with, and operate, all appropriate information technology resources available, and to keep abreast, of developments in this area. To undertake other additional duties, consistent with the role as may be deemed appropriate by your Head of Department 1 Within the limitations set out in your contract, working hours are flexible and can be subject to variation depending upon curriculum needs. They may, for example, include evenings. It is expected that holiday entitlement should be taken at times convenient to the curriculum offer. 2 This job description is current at the date shown below.
