Monitors, writes, and manages the standards compliance information for Section 27 of the Campus Standards and Design Guide and provides consultation and direction with regard to incorporating proper compliance standards into the telecommunications infrastructure projects. Maintains a comprehensive library of telecommunications standards for voice, data, wireless, multimedia, and telecommunications infrastructure on campus. Performs quality assurance activities for adherence to defined standards. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced inspection professional to perform standard inspections of construction work by contractors, as well as other personnel for new construction, alterations and repair. Reviews design development and construction documents, specifications, and bid documents for construction features prior to release for bid; and participates in final inspection and final acceptance procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and ensuring compliance with all applicable building codes, rules, regulations, laws, etc. Campus Job Scope: The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. In support of the University's mission, IET will deliver an infrastructure of technological services appropriate to the requirements of the campus community. Department Specific Job Scope: Network Services and Engineering (NSE), is responsible for the long range planning, design, engineering, and technical advancement of the campus communications infrastructure including Outside Plant, structured cabling, general assignment classrooms, and network equipment installation. NSE manages the communications and multimedia systems design guidelines and specifications, estimating, planning, inspection, and installation services for capital construction projects, major building renovations, general assignment classrooms, and daily moves, additions, and changes.

Positions Supervised: n/a 50% PROJECT/INSTALLATION STDS COMPLIANCE INSPECTIONS Perform field site visits for compliance inspection to assure that stds are met. Inspect construction of facilities including new construction, modifications to existing facilities & repairs to all underground utilities for duct banks for various distribution systems (e.g., voice, data, multimedia, & fiber optics). Inspect construction projects ranging from small tenant improvements to new construction, renovations, general assignment classrooms, & infrastructure replacements projects. Assist with the Inspector of Record services on projects coordinating the activities of other inspectors required by California Code of Regulations Title 24. Support inspections with State/Local Fire Marshall. Document all inspections performed, including updates & other reports as required. Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, plans & specifications, campus stds. Perform field site visits for compliance & maintenance issues as requested by the NSC, ATS, & NOC as required. Review & update Standard Operation Procedures handbook for project stds compliance inspections. Essential Responsibilities: 25% STDS DOCUMENTATION Monitor & analyze current & pending industry stds as published by TIA, BICSI, NEC, ICT, IEEE, or similar telecommunications related organizations, multimedia or governmental guidelines & stds, as they relate to campus construction projects & upgrades. Determine gen'l & specific applicability of stds for the campus. Maintain current knowledge of all applicable guidelines & stds. Responsible for the writing & publishing of Section 27 of the Campus Stds & Design for new & existing buildings & other telecommunications & multimedia infrastructure. Define, prepare, & update a comprehensive list of manufacturer products & prices used in the estimation process of cabling & multimedia projects. Responsible for assuring that other campus orgs with responsibility for various aspects of physical changes (e.g., DCM, Facilities Services) have had adequate time to comment on & review both new stds & changes to existing stds before placing such stds into general use. Be an active team player to develop & communicate project plans & schedules, prioritize requirements & coordinate resources for installation & maintenance of the campus voice, data, multimedia, & video communications infrastructure. 15% PROJECT STDS COMPLIANCE REVIEWS Perform QA for adherence to defined stds through regular inspection of project documentation affecting the communications systems infrastructure & multimedia systems. Advocate & enforce telecommunications & multimedia stds for campus construction projects & upgrades, up to & including new building construction & renovations of general assignment classrooms. Provide consultative stds direction to dept. personnel & external contractors for the expansion & design of multimedia & telecommunications based services, to meet organizational requirements. Coordinate the delivery of stds compliance information & provides consulting services to related campus offices & departments. Evaluate future building & system plans for conformance to established stds. 10% ASSOC. RESPONSIBILITIES Member of the NTI Committee to ensure all units in CR are involved in the search & integration of new products. Help develop timeline for end of life equipment supporting projects & service orders. Work with IET Storehouse to ensure the material equipment listing is current. Work with vendors, technicians, & storekeepers to ensure the existing material is valid.

Climb ladders, stoop, and bend in confined areas. Physical Demands: Work at sites under construction which may include uneven ground/walking surfaces, open trenches and contain other obstacles great and small. This position requires a valid California Driver's license and is subject to DMV pullnotice System. This position requires Registered Communications Distribution Designer(RCDD) certification, which is contingent upon hiring after 6 month probation period. Work in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions. Work in a noisy environment generated from construction equipment, ventilators, pumps, generators and vehicular traffic. Work Environment: Work occasional overtime and/or flexible hours as needed to meet peak workloads. Vacation is restricted during busy periods. Background Check: Yes QUALIFICATIONS Experience with EIA/TIA, ICT, and BICSI standards, National Fire Protection Code including the National Electric Code, grounding, bonding, power, and protection of telecommunications plant and equipment and multimedia systems. Experience applying knowledge of California Building Codes, Cal OSHA, and the campus, medical center or University Construction Design Standards. Minimum Qualifications: Experience in the design, installation, and certification processes of sizable telecommunications infrastructure projects to include all categories of structured cabling, in-building radio systems, wireless systems, fiber optic cable, termination, and grounding systems. Knowledge to inspect voice and data systems, local area network, copper and fiber outside plant infrastructure, and structured cabling. Knowledge to inspect multimedia systems (projection, video, audio, controls) and intended applications in a systems environment. Experience providing plan review services on simple and moderately, complex improvement projects as well as code applications for replacement, repairs and upgrades of facilities. Experience applying safety procedures and devices, and approved construction

practices. Knowledge in inspecting fire stopping material in conduits and telecommunication areas. Experience in building codes, standard skills and procedures of construction trades, and awareness of archeological and environmental restrictions. Strong organizational and analytical skills, including skill in problem recognition, avoidance and resolution. Knowledge of multimedia control systems and programming requirements to integrate into existing system for classroom and conference room environments. Strong skills in reviewing, evaluating and advising project management on project completeness as applied to application for progress payments submitted by contractors. Preferred Qualifications for Selection: Thorough verbal and interpersonal communications skills including skill to work effectively with a variety of constituents Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings. Knowledge of record keeping skills to properly prepare punch lists, as-built and redline documents, create inspection reports, perform data entry into mechanized computer systems, and retrieve computer generated reports. Skill to update and modify computer aided drawings, maps, and blueprints. Skill to perform complex analysis of telecommunications related regulations and standards. Skill to recognize emerging technologies and changing standards and act unilaterally to rapidly assimilate new or changed standards into the University's approved group of standards via approved regulatory units on campus.
