The predominant brand in the UK commercial market, the company is also a major supplier of specialist loader cranes to the military and can point to an exceptional record of success stretching back to 1968. Since then the company has supplied more than 2,300 military cranes, for a variety of different applications, many of which are expected to remain in active service until 2036. Headed by a dedicated military product support manager with 25 years of experience, the company operates a specialist division with its own dedicated fitting facilities and specially trained service engineers. This team prides itself on the long-term relationships and the close rapport it has with its military customers. Supplying this exacting market requires a range of knowledge, technical competence and on the ground support that is well beyond the ordinary. Atlas recognises this fact and has long enjoyed a reputation for being flexible and responsive to the particular needs of this unique sector. Highlights at a glance 1968 Atlas begins supplying cranes for military applications. Company secures contract for 333 3001/66 cranes for the Alvis Stalwart FV623. They remain in service for more than 25 years. Subsequent order placed for enhanced version known simply as FV623 MK2. 1984 Atlas wins contract to manufacture and supply 333 6500 EA12 recovery crane top hampers (RV) for FODEN 6 x 6 MAN chassis cabs. 1991 Atlas supplies 81 6000 M8 cranes to the UK MOD for the tank recovery programme. 1994 Sees start of contract to supply 48 5003 M5 cranes to the UK MOD for bridge launching vehicles. 1997 Atlas wins contract to completely refurbish the MOD s model 6000 M8 cranes at its Bradford facility. Contract is expected to run until 2035. 1998 Company begins supplying a total of 73 390.1 M1 cranes to the US Marines. 2006 Atlas takes order for 288 6002 recovery vehicle top hampers (RV) for free issue on MAN SX45 chassis cabs. This unit can be adapted to fit any suitable truck chassis from any manufacturer. Contract is ongoing. 2009 Company supplies 33 TML 240.2e A2 units and 71 SLDT 105.2 A1L units to UK MOD. 2010 Fitted to fully armoured tipper chassis cabs, Atlas supplies 12 165.2 cranes to another of the UK MOD s preferred vehicle manufacturers. page seven
Refurbishment and Repair From complete cranes to power packs, rams, valve blocks and other major hydraulic components, Atlas provides a comprehensive refurbishment service using skilled engineers based in its UK workshops. The company is currently undertaking a number of refurbishment contracts as part of its total solution for the military. The resource is designed to maximise the working life and financial viability of all Atlas cranes supplied to this all-important sector. page ten
Truck Mounted Loader (TML) The Truck Mounted Loader (TML) contract is typical of the way in which Atlas works with the MOD s preferred vehicle suppliers. This contract called for the supply of 104 cranes which started to come into service in September 2009. Scope: 33 x TML 240.2e A2 and 71 SLDT 105.2 A1L cranes Chassis: Iveco 6x6 Trakker Lifting capacity: Up to 6 tonnes Controls: Included on vehicle, plus remote control pack Expected life span: 17 years Potential uses: - Loading of pallets on to MGB trailers - Boats on to cradles - Lifting of concrete slabs - Splitting BR90 tank bridges for inspection, building and replacement panels - ISO container handling page eleven
