The specific department in which the duties are performed is the General Warehouse department. The General Warehouse receives items, such as cleaning supplies, textbooks, and paper, which are distributed throughout the district. The Warehouser is responsible for operating various pieces of heavy equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks that are used to transport pallets throughout the General Warehouse. the General Warehouse, pull items from the warehouse and create product pallets for distribution within the HISD, and drive delivery routes to deliver items. The heaviest item lifted by the Warehouser is a 114-pound case of paper. The workers in the General Warehouse are allowed to request assistance when lifting these particular cases. The worker is required to lift hundreds of different product cases, which vary in size, dimensions and weight. The work of a Warehouser with Houston Independent School District is performed indoors and outdoors in a school system environment. Temperature and humidity levels vary dependent upon the weather. The temperature outside can be hot and humid during the summer months and cold and icy during the winter months. The General Warehouse is not air-conditioned and can become very hot during the summer months. Employees are encouraged to take extra breaks and stay hydrated during these times. The worker must be able to endure the elements and the hot and humid temperatures inside the warehouse in order to successfully complete work related tasks and activities. The worker is required to wear back safety belts in the performance of this work. The worker is also required to attend biomechanics training classes and material handle training sessions.
