A LETTER FROM: Ted Kniker Dear Colleague: According to studies, 68% of IT projects fail because of the lack of Business/ Requirements analysis. A Business/Requirements Analyst is responsible for requirements definition and requirements management. Specifically, a Business Analyst elicits, analyzes, validates and documents business, organizational and/or operational requirements. Solutions are not predetermined by the Business Analyst, but are driven solely by the requirements of the business. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement or organizational change. IT organizations have been challenged to improve business processes in order to reduce costs and provide more consistent service. The BA job role is an important component of improved business processes. The IIBA defines Business Analysis as the set of tasks, knowledge and techniques required to identify business needs and determine solutions to business problems. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement or organizational change. This course will provide students with the fundamentals of the business analyst role and prepare them with the competencies they will need to employ throughout the requirements life cycle.
