APC Ultrafiltration Membranes U ltrafiltration or UF is a pressure- driven membrane separation process that helps to remove particulate matter from aqueous solutions such as water. APC UF membranes typically have pore sizes in the range of 0.03 µm and efficiently remove bacteria and most viruses, colloids, turbidity and silt. Materials that are used in UF are polymeric and are naturally hydrophilic. APC UF membranes are made from highgrade Polyethersulfone (PES)-based seven pore membrane fibers material to form a hollow fiber membrane that is very durable and less prone to breakage. The hollow fiber has a dense layer or skin on both the inside and outside surfaces, forming a doublewalled structure that contributes to its strength. All membranes are assembled in one bundle rigidly fixed onto potting resins and protected by a PVC housing. APC UF membrane fouling resistance is improved by making the membrane surface more hydrophilic. With uniform pore size and inside-out flow, the UF membrane creates a barrier without sacrificing performance. APC UF membranes utilize a double-walled hollow fiber membrane with a very small pore diameter for excellent removal of particulate matter and bacteria, and most viruses and colloids.

APC UF Membrane Flux,Despite the small bore diameter, the membrane has a very high porosity, resulting in a stabilized flux similar to that of micro-filtration. APC UF membrane are operated at a constant permeate flow. The transmembrane pressure (TMP) will naturally increase over time, and the module can be automatically cleaned by Front and Back Flushing ( to remove the fouling layer for longer service life). Advantages: Low fouling: APC UF membranes are made from PES material, which has excellent chemical resistance to strong levels of disinfectants such as peroxide or hypochlorite, allowing sufficient removal of bacterial growth.( Table-1-membrane modules ). Inside-Out flow configuration: Systems designed with APC UF use an inside-out flow configuration with Front & Back Flashing, which allows for low clogging and high solids loading, high flow area and easy cleaning. Very fine pore diameter: With a nominal pore diameter of 0.03 µm, APC - UF membranes effectively removes pathogens, most viruses, bacteria. turbidity and silt. In addition, the membrane s high porosity allows high flux operation (up to 800L/M 2 /HR ) at a given transmembrane pressure and a given aqueous solution quality. Durable double-walled fiber structure: The distinct structure provides excellent durability and resistance against breakage, even with periodic cleaning procedures to remove fouling. Dead-end or concentrate bleed capabilities: Although the primary flow design is dead-end filtration, modules can be easily adapted to a concentrate bleed mode. Simple, modular design: APC UF membranes comes in three different modules ( APC- (5,10,20) FL) and can be configured in a simple modular design providing a compact footprint with a production flow (1-1000)GPM and more. ( Table-1) U-PVC housing: APC-UF membranes fibers are assembled in one bundle in a protective PVC housing helping to eliminate the need for costly pressure vessels.

Applications: Pre-filtration of RO installations and desalination plants o Filtration of bacteria, viruses and other waterborne microorganisms An effective alternative ( Quality and Cost ) to Automatic filters (Sand, Disc, Cartridges.) o Drinking water treatment systems, Point of Entry and Point of Use Ground, well, river and Lakes water filtration Emergency drinking water system

Process water & waste water Ultrafiltration membrane offer protection against microbial infection in humidifiers and cooling systems Ultrafiltration Operation Scheme Influent water enters the tubes and is filtered against the wall surface; Silt, sediment, turbidity as well as microorganisms are retained inside the membrane wall as they cannot pass the fine tube walls. Filtered water (permeate) is collected on the exterior wall of the fibers and exits the permeate port. During flushing cycle, the solenoid valve on drain port opens, forcing water through the membrane fibers and removing all accumulated debris down the drain line. The cycle can be adjusted depending on water quality. Forward and Backward flushing are achieved automatically and Manually. Normal Operation Backward Flush Forward Flush Valve (A Open, B Closed ) Valve ( A closed, B opened ) Valve ( A opened, B opened )
