Page 3 Information Page Information Page - Solid Rubber & Plastic Sheeting s A general overview on material usage applications:- SBR [Styrene Butadiene] SBR is a synthetic elastomer suitable for low to medium duty applications involving air, water and diluted mixtures for, economic, general purpose applications. NR [Natural Rubber] NR natural rubber compounds have high abrasion resistance with excellent resilience, tensile strength, elongation, tear strength and mechanical properties. It is highly flexible and has good low permanent set qualities. It is not recommended on higher temperature applications. CR [ Chloroprene ] - Neoprene CR Neoprene is an multi purpose material suitable for applications involving weathering, sea water, mineral oils, greases, dilute acids and alkalis but is not recommended for fuel immersion. It also exhibits good flame retardant properties dependent on polymer content. NBR [Nitrile Butadiene] - Nitrile NBR Nitrile has excellent resistance to petroleum oils and aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils and many acids with good elongation, resilience, tensile and compression set properties. HNBR [Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene] Hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubbers are known for strength and retention of properties after exposure to high and low temperatures, weathering, oil, gas, steam and many industrial chemicals and is far superior to standard nitrile butadiene [NBR] rubbers. EPDM [Ethylene Propylene] EPDM materials have excellent resistance to water [fresh & Sea], oxidation, ultra violet, ozone and weathering coupled with good temperature resistance. It also has good resistance to acids, water based chemicals and vegetable based hydrocarbons but is not recommended for use with mineral oils and di-ester based lubricants. IIR [Isobutylene ] - Butyl Butyl compounds have very high impermeability to gases, ozone, ultra violet light and weathering with high chemical and acid resistance and is particularly good when applications involving high and low temperatures prevail. CSM [Hypalon ] Hypalon has outstanding resistance to most chemicals and oils at high and low temperatures with excellent weathering and abrasion resistance. It also has low moisture absorption and good dielectric properties. SI [Silicone] The outstanding properties of silicone rubbers is their outstanding high / low temperature resistance without failure. Typical applications include oven door seals, glazing seals, gaskets and sealing washers. It has excellent flame - Retardant characteristics and can be used in contact with food and drink. FKM [Fluoroelastomer & Viton ] Fluoroelastomer [ including Viton ] are materials designed for very high operating temperature applications in excess of 200º c. They have outstanding resistance to chemical attack by oxidation and corrosive fluids while retaining their mechanical properties. ACM [VAMAC G ] A Terpolymer od ethylene, methylacrylate and a cure monomer, VAMAC has excellent high temperature durability and oil resistance with service lubricants, coupled with good low temperature flexibility. It also is a halogen free polymer which does not decompose to give off corrosive gasses when exposed to flame which makes it ideal for critical flame retardent, low-smoke, nonhalogen application requirements. PVC [Polyvinylchloride] Flexible PVC sheet materials have excellent oil, grease and fuel resistance and are commonly used for protection screens, weather and draught curtains and kickboard panels as it is very durable and resilient. CNAF [ Compressed non asbestos fibre] and Graphite These materials offer viable alternatives to the now discontinued asbestos based products. A range is available to suit most applications previously covered by asbestos based materials. CORKS - BONDED [ Cork Granules bonded with polymers] The natural properties of cork, in particular the compressibility and recovery characteristics make it an ideal sealing and gasketing material. Combined with a range of elastomeric compounds making it resistant and suitable for many industrial applications. PTFE [Polytetrafluoroethylene] PTFE exhibits unique physical characteristics and achieves almost universal chemical resistance and is insoluble in all solvents below 300ºc with a high temperature service stability at 250ºc and low temperature resistance at 200ºc. It has extremely low coefficiency of friction and excellent low stick values, is non flammable, weather resistant and can be used with food and drinks. PU [ Polyurethane] The ultimate material for demanding applications for abrasion, resilience, wear resistance and tear strength with good resistance to ozone and oxygen. It also exhibits low co efficiency of friction values. The above data is evaluated on base polymer compounds so allowance should be made for blended compounds and in particular on economy and commercial quality grades where full polymer content is not stated. Caution should be applied and we recommend that all materials falling into these categories be tested and are offered subject to clients determination of suitability. Wherever possible AV Industrial Products are prepared to submit samples for customer tests, material data sheets and, test data and further information on any of our standard materials to ensure most suitable material is advised or supplied but in line with current industry standard, will offer for economy or commercial grades if no specification is submitted by customer. Unfortunately we are unable to give any firm recommendations on economy grade materials containing reclaimed crumb materials.

Page 4 Compound Information Page Special s & Compounds - General Guide We regularly are asked to develop and produce specially formulated compounds and materials to meet our customers specific requirements. A small selection of these are stated below:- Flame Resistant sheetings A compound that can be used for both sheeting and flooring applications and of particular interest for underground applications [mining, railways etc] where flame resistance and smoke emissions are of paramount importance. The sheet developed meets the following independently tested specifications:- Fire Classification : M1 as per BS476: Part 7: 1977 Smoke : 1B as per BS6853: 1999 Annex D.8.6 Smoke Toxicity: 1A as per BS6853: 1999 Clause B.4.2 The above grade can also be made with electrical resistance meeting British, European, American and most internationally recognised standards with either a plain or patterned slip resistant surface. In addition to the above we have now added grades conforming to UL94 VO and NFF 16 101-M2 F3 specifications Conductive and Non Conductive Sheetings. Various grades have been developed in differing specification characteristics, the latest one meeting British Standard BS2050. The can also be made to order with a range if anti-slip surface finishes. Fabric combination materials We are able to offer a multitude of fabric and rubber combinations [insertions] in a wide variety of fabrics including nylons, polyamides, EP belting fabrics, polyesters, cottons and natural materials. These can be embedded into the materials or surface coated. They are usually added to give varying degrees of additional burst and tear strength or non stretch characteristics. However, on a recent material developed a combination of strength and stretch was required for a customers requirement to make specialised rubber stretch covers for sports equipment. This was achieved by coating a high stretch fabric material onto the surface of a high quality elasticated natural rubber. This enables material to be fabricated [sewn/stitched] into a variety of cover and bag sizes for snug fits on sports equipment. ed Materials We have always been very versatile on our range of coloured materials but we can now offer sheeting and flooring materials to meet most RAL colour matches. A recent one undertaken successfully was a challenging yellow natural rubber material to RAL1003! TAKIBAK Speciality Coated Materials Takibak is a very specialised coating material applied to rubbers to aid with bonding to other substrates. It is coated to a surface of rubber material and then covered [for protection] with a peel of film. It is normally applied to high abrasion and wear materials for the lining of chutes and bins but can be applied to other materials for differing applications if required and where the bond or lamination of a material is important. On certain grades we can also offer for an abraded face to facilitate the application of laminates and adhesives. POLYFACE Speciality Faced Bonded POLYURETHANE Layer Polyface is a polyurethane facing which we can apply to various substrate rubber materials. Usually 2.0mm or 3.0mm layer thickness applied to various other thickness sheets giving all the advantages of a highly abrasive resistant face coating but applied to economically priced substrate materials. Self-Adhesive Coated Backed Materials We can offer a coating service for self-adhesive backing on many of our standard sheet materials. Various types of adhesives are available to meet varying application requirements. We would be please to offer against your specific enquires but due to the nature of these products we can only offer subject to clients own determination of suitability as no guarantees can be given. In any case, unless stated our self adhesive backings should not be considered for critical or absolute permanent bonds. Drum Lagging Sheet - RHOMBUS Pattern A special formulated sheeting with rhombus diamond pattern design on one face for drum covering on conveyor produced in various compounds, with or without Takibak coating on reverse - see above. systems. Can be Sandwich - Dual Sheet Materials Sheet materials in varying hardness layers - two or three combination hardness s usually coloured coded for hardness. Various hardness and compound options are available to special order. The above are just a small selection of the materials we have developed and produced. At present these materials are not standard stock grades and would be subject to minimum production and batch runs.
