JOB DESCRIPTION 1. PURPOSE OF POST To deliver high quality environmental education based at Brockholes Nature Reserve, by contributing to the education programmes and habitat management as appropriate. 3. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Work alongside the Senior Education Officer to prepare, deliver and evaluate education workshop This will involve working directly with visiting school groups of all ages, but mostly KS1 and KS2. 2. To plan and implement other activities or events on site such as holiday activities (Wildside, Wild Families), Nature Tots and team building events. 3. To plan and deliver birthday parties, which will involve working either weekends or evenings. The placement should be available for regular weekend work (at least two weekend days per month). 4. To deliver education programmes to groups other than schools, such as scouts and guides, holiday clubs etc. 5. Coordinate additional outreach activities or events, which may involve occasional out of office hours work. 6. To work with other centre staff and volunteers as part of a team, delivering workshop 7. To maintain props and other equipment required for the running of education workshop 8. To assist in the maintenance and conservation of the nature reserve to support educational visits. 9. To deliver promotion and publicity for the Education team and its activities. 10. To follow Trust guidelines for the health, safety and welfare of children visiting the centre. 11. To undertake any other duties as may occasionally be decided by the management. Page 1

4. POST SPECIFICATION The post holder will be expected to: 1. Work closely with the Senior Education Officer, Administrative Assistant and other Education placements. They should also build good working relationships with the wider Education Team and Brockholes staff. 2. Be responsible for planning and delivering inspiring environmental education sessions for visiting schools and groups at Brockholes Nature Reserve. 3. Liaise with schools and teachers as required to ensure school visits run efficiently, supporting the Administrative Assistant with administration tasks where necessary. 4. Be responsible for planning and delivering events at Brockholes, including holiday activities (e.g. Wildside, Wild Families), Nature Tots, team building, birthday parties, community groups and the wider events programme. 5. Work at least two weekend days per month, as well as occasional evening work when required. 6. Be responsible for planning and delivering outreach visits. 7. Work closely with volunteers assisting the Education Team with school visits and events. 8. Work with the Education team and Marketing to promote and publicise the work carried out by the Education team. 9. Design and create educational resources and maintain equipment used for education sessions. 10. Assist with maintenance and conservation tasks at Brockholes to support Education visits. 11. Support staff throughout the Wildlife Trust with educational delivery and engagement with children and young people. 12. Abide by all of the Wildlife Trust s organisational policies and procedures. 13. Ensure all activities are fully accessible and inclusive where practicable, and comply with the Equal Opportunities Policy 14. Ensure that all health and safety legislation and guidelines are adhered to, as part of the overall provision of a safe environment for site users. To be responsible for the health and safety of volunteers, participants and other visitors when working on site in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the Wildlife Trust s Health and Safety Policy. In order for the organisation to work effectively, you may be required to assist with other areas of work and therefore, you should be prepared to undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as delegated by your line manager. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS Salary: Pension: DBS Disclosure Hours of Work: National Minimum wage or living wage dependent upon age. The Trust contributes to the NEST Pension Scheme. Full details will be provided. As this post involves contact with young children or vulnerable adults, the successful applicant will be asked to undertake a criminal records check before commencing employment ( Enhanced Disclosure in England and Wales). Full time - 37.5 hours per week. The post will include working at least two weekend days per month, as well as some evening work as required. Overtime is not paid but time off in lieu may be taken, where appropriate. Duration of post: Holidays: Place of work: This post is fixed term for 12 months, it is envisaged that the post will run from 1 st October 2018 to the 30 th September 2019. 25 days per annum (pro rata) Brockholes Nature Reserve, Samlesbury, Preston, PR5 OAG.
