INNOVATIVE GEOTECHNICAL SOLUTIONS Apart from grouts for securing structural elements, such as rock bolts, anchors or cables, grouting in geotechnical applications covers a wide variety of purposes. These include foundation work, sealing of trenches, curtain grouting, increasing load bearing capacities of piles, as well as sealing against water ingress or leakage. The choice of material and technology depends on grouting purpose, type of environment to be grouted and the required pumping and transport distance of the grouting material. Ground conditions are very specific to the geology and the project to be undertaken. Determining the right solution saves time, money and improves the quality of the finished project. Cement-based products are widely used because of their ease of application. Specialty cements developed by Minova offer improved solutions to the challenges geotechnical engineers constantly face. Due to their characteristics, Minova resin technologies offer higher penetration rates when compared to cement-based material. They can set instantaneously when pumping stops or when in contact with ground water. TUNNELLING CONSTRUCTION AND REFURBISHMENT Minova supports all the main methods of tunnel construction including continuous, cyclic, and cut & cover methods. Regardless of the method, support is needed before, during and after the tunnel is excavated or built to maintain safety and sustainability. With our history in mining, our products have been proven to work even in the toughest conditions. Tunnel refurbishment Many of the world s tunnels are beyond or nearing the end of their original designed life expectancy. These tunnels need to be refurbished by either rebuilding them or restoring them in order to increase capacity, prolong service life and improve safety. Often tunnels must remain operational while this refurbishment is undertaken. Our fast-acting products are ideal for these scenarios. Minova improves safety during tunnel construction and throughout the operational life of the tunnel. A significant part of the rock deformation, caused by a change in rock stresses, occurs ahead of the excavation face. In hard rock about 10% of the deformation happens ahead of the face, while in soft ground it can be up to 50%. This means that pre-support is needed for tunnel advancement. Presupport With pre-support, we secure the ground for excavation of the tunnel. The rock is stabilised ahead of the face to reduce rock deformation before excavation. The pre-support is executed from a secured area and eliminates working in unsecured areas. A proper pre-support also reduces the risk of collapsing roof or face during excavation. Rock reinforcement stabilises the ground and extends the natural arch of the rock. Reinforcement prevents further loosening of rock mass and reduces rock deformation caused by excavation. MINOVA IMPROVES MINING PRODUCTIVITY For decades our products have been used as part of the production process in longwall coal and hard rock mining. Minova provides GFRP bolting technologies and injection resins that form a secure, cuttable face, improve rib support and prevent collapse. Minova GFRP (Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer) bolts are made with high density fibre that provide miners safety underground while offering corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, low weight, good ductility and handling ease. In production situations, once the rock is broken and ready for processing transport, broken fragments of GFRP are less abrasive than steel bolts, reducing wear and tear on downstream equipment, such as conveyors and crushers. Minova Resins Space and transport access remains tight in mining, making the use of pumping equipment close to the face problematic. Minova manufacturers Capcem cement and Lokset resin capsules for use in these constrained areas, minimising the need for extra equipment at the face.
