WARMUP TILED SHOWER SOLUTION INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: this instruction detail is specific to the requirements of the Tiled Shower solution and must be read in conjunction with the ARDEX WPM750 membrane installation requirements, WARMUP Undertile heating requirements, Marmox insulation board requirements and glass glazier requirements. 1. Pre Install site check Check that walls and floors are prepared (in accordance with the attached builders requirements ) in conjunction or exceeding (in the case of additional nogging requirements) the requirements of NZS3604 Timber floor Needs to be clean, stable and sound. For level entry showers the set down for shower base should be smooth and level (maximum 3mm height deflections) and sized in accordance with the quoted detail. Any areas that are out of level or unsound need to be rectified either by us or by others. Concrete floor Needs to be clean and smooth. Make sure the floor is free of any efflorescence, curing compounds, and release agents. For level entry showers the set down for shower base should be smooth and level (maximum 3mm height deflections) and sized in accordance with the quoted detail. Check that all concrete is solid and cured appropriately. Check that the plumbing is positioned correctly for the quoted waste Walls Check that the walls are stable and firm, plumb and straight particularly in the immediate shower area and where glass will be attached to the wall. 2. Position and install the clamp flange waste. Note: for centring purposes, glass is fitted to the inside of a shower threshold. a) Centre waste: 100mm diameter clamp flange (to fit to 100mm riser as prepared by the site plumber) positioned in the centre of the shower. b) Off centre waste: 100mm diameter clamp flange (to fit to 100mm riser as prepared by the site plumber) positioned in the centre of the shower. c) Off Centre Channel: 80mm diameter clamp flange (to fit 80mm riser as prepared by the site plumber) positioned 135mm (to the centre) off the back bottom plate and centred along the shower base. d) Full length Channel: 80mm diameter clamp flange (to fit 80mm riser as prepared by the site plumber) positioned 75mm (to the centre) off the back bottom plate, and along the shower base as centre as possible. Timber substrate: Make sure the perimeter of the flange is supported by at least 10mm of timber substrate around the complete circumference. Enlarge the hole if it is too small. If too large, manufacture a support by strapping underneath and screwing timber to infill. Countersink the flange so it fits flush to the floor, sealing it to the existing riser using approved PVC cement. Affix flange to timber sub floor with CA20P sealant. If required screw with stainless countersunk timber screws. Concrete substrate: Countersink the flange so it is flush with the floor. Seal it to the existing riser using approved PVC cement. Fill any gaps around the flange with the appropriate cement based filler depending upon the depth and breadth of the fill as required. Make sure the flange is completely supported. 3. Install Marmox underlay to floor. a) Timber floor in accordance with Marmox installation instructions, boards should be affixed (Sika Nailbond premium solvent free adhesive) and screwed to the substrate. For Threshold showers, Marmox underlay should be installed over the entire floor area, including the shower base. For level entry showers, do not install in the immediate shower floor area. b) Concrete floor in accordance with Marmox installation instructions, boards should be affixed (suitable quality flexible tile adhesive). 4. Install ARDEX WPM750 Undertile Butynol waterproofing membrane a) Pencil mark vertical (external) line of shower glass channel and mask the wall outside the shower area b) Install the sheet waterproofing from the outermost point of the room towards the shower. c) Install the sheet membrane over the shower base making sure that there are no joins in the immediate base area. Ensure that the sheet membrane extends up the shower wall by a minimum of 150mm from the shower floor, and out side the shower floor limits by 100mm. d) Apply CA20P adhesive to the fixed part of the clamp flange in the shower base so as to seal the underside of the WPM750 to the flange. Clamp the WPM750 into position around the waste e) Install the sheet membrane on the wall up to the point as pencil marked / masked. If the walls are to be tiled outside the shower, the waterproofing may be extended past the shower perimeter. f) Install water stops at all doorways 5. Install the shower tray Threshold a) Trim the shower tray to exact size required. If joining pieces of the tray to extend any sides, apply a full bead of CA20P to both sides to be joined. Push together, smooth out excess adhesive, and tape over the join using 80mm Butyl tape. Lightly heat (with the Leister gun) and roll the tape to get a full bond to either side of the base. b) Using masking tape, outline the profile of shower tray onto the waterproofing. c) Size and cut MARMOX threshold as required, sized as specified. For pre channelling, using 35mm (high) x 50mm (wide) threshold. If not pre channelling, hob size should be 65mm x 65mm. Note, glass will be installed on the inside edge of the threshold. d) Weld an appropriate flap of membrane around the inside of the hob position of the shower base (effectively under the shower base once installed). The flap must be wide enough to achieve a 50mm weld to the existing membrane as well as to have enough un welded width to extend up the inside of the hob. Ie 35mm when pre channelling for glass, and 65mm otherwise. e) Install the trimmed shower tray with ARDEX Optima tile adhesive (as per the manufacturer s instructions) using an 8mm notched trowel to the shower tray floor area ensuring complete floor coverage. Make sure the tray is well bedded into the adhesive. Remove masking tape around the perimeter of the tray, leaving a clean area around the perimeter. f) Apply CA20P to seal between the join between the top of the flange and / or waterproofing to the inside of the shower tray. g) Install the hob sandwiching the installed WPM750 flap between the shower base and the hob. Glue the hob to the waterproofing with Optima adhesive. Seal between the flap and the shower base using CA20P. Trim the excess flap piece so it is level with the rest of the hob. Level Entry h) Trim the shower tray to exact size required. If joining pieces of the tray to extend any sides, apply a full bead of CA20P to both sides to be joined. Push together, smooth out excess adhesive, and tape over the join using 80mm Butyl tape. Lightly heat (with the Leister gun) and roll the tape to get a full bond to either side of the base. i) Using masking tape, outline the profile of shower tray onto the waterproofing. j) Install the trimmed shower tray with ARDEX Optima tile adhesive (as per the manufacturer s instructions) using an 8mm notched trowel to the shower tray floor area ensuring complete floor coverage. Make sure the tray is well bedded into the adhesive. Remove masking tape around the perimeter of the tray, leaving a clean area around the perimeter. k) Apply CA20P to seal between the join between the top of the flange and / or waterproofing to the inside of the shower tray. l) Apply CA20P sealant around the perimeter of the tray, sealing between the tray and the waterproofing. Remove masking tape. NOTE: If heating inside the shower base this should be done over the threshold and under the glass channel (for both threshold shower and level entry). Over the shower base the elements should be affixed in place with a thin coating of Optima adhesive. The aim being to fix the wires in place, and to absolutely minimise and change to the fall of the shower. 6. Pre channel for glass (or water stop) a) Size and cut glass channel profile to base and wall. Affix using V60 silicone adhesive. Check (appendix 1) that the appropriate profile is used for appropriate shower. Glass profile must be installed plumb and level and be completely sealed to the waterproofing membrane. b) Using V60 glue in corner channel sealants taking care that any silicone that overflows onto the channel is wiped clean. c) Channels MUST be installed level. d) Measure final installed channels to confirm size for glass. e) If there is no glass or glass installed by others then install water stops (7mm x 20mm L ) around the perimeter of the shower both walls and floors. Sealed to the waterproofing with CA20P. Instructions for the Tiler (re sealing the joint) must be left on site. 7. Install heating a) Mark out and install undertile heating as required. b) Screed undertile heating using WARMUP Indoor / outdoor compatible levelling compound. 8. Ready for other trades Tiling or flood testing (if required) can commence the next day. 9. Install glass as specified. 10. Connect and program heating controller Install spec July 2012 Page 3
