9 Research Centre for Agrobiodiversity, Tápiószele, Hungary Storage: Active collection: 0 o C Basic collection: -20 o C RH%: uncontrolled Package: airtight glass jars Other: the seed moisture content is measured and recorded before storage Regeneration When germination percentage falls under 85% of the initial value, or seed depletion threshold less then 2000 viable seeds Field isolation for cultivars Small houses for isolation with net sides and polycarbonate cover on the roof and front and back side for wild relatives
10 Research Centre for Agrobiodiversity, Tápiószele, Hungary Germination Based on the Hungarian Standard (MSZ : 1991) Follows the recommendation of the International Seed Testing Association. Viability is assessed by germination tests following the recommendation of Genebank Standards. The initial germination test is carried out using 2 x 100 seeds drawn at random from the seed lot before storage. The first monitoring test is conducted on 2 x 50 seeds after 10 years of storage, and repeated in every 5th subsequent year.
11 Research Centre for Agrobiodiversity, Tápiószele, Hungary Further actions in RCAT (HUN): Fully adaptation of FAO genebank standards (ratification in april 2013) Paper form descriptor lists must be part of the database in digital form Organize more collection trip Key aspects of the National Strategy for preservation of food crops genetic resources Aims: The removal of institutional fragmentation and synchronisation the work between gene preservation institutions. Continuous operation of the Plant Genebank Council and seeking professional opinion on issues related to preservation. Development of implementing regulatin of FAO agreement until 2014 To ensure the continuity of the national and EU founds for gene conservation Encouraging the implementation of Ministerial regulations related to landraces All Institutions engaged in gene conservation activities need create catalogs of their accessions until 2014 and update them continuosly in parallel with the national database. The catalogs also need to contain the traditional knowledge related to the landraces.
12 Research Centre for Agrobiodiversity, Tápiószele, Hungary To increase the availability of the conserved genetic material for farmers in on farm programs and useing the landscape ecological potential of local varieties To help for local communities in their gene conservation activities Organizing collecting trips to detect more genetic resources and make documentation to cover the country Agricultural research institutes need support and motivation for the utilization of genebank material Response to the climat change we need to increase the usage of our conserved genetic material in breeding programs in collaboration with farmers and researchers. To raise awareness in society and in decision-making forums the importance of conservation of plant genetic resources and the usage of landraces To achieve the international targets and strengthening the existing international cooperations related to the preservation of plant genetic resources
