9 What is the Ross Fund Portfolio? It is not a fund It is a way of describing the UK Government investments in three areas: Diseases of epidemic potential Neglected Tropical Diseases Diseases with emerging resistance, including AMR It is a mixture of research and implementation Not all UK Govt work in these three areas is within the Ross Fund Portfolio You can t bid for funding designated as Ross Fund There will be funding opportunities for some areas covered

18 Newton Fund ( million) (BEIS) To promote the economic development and social welfare of either the partner countries or, through working with the partner country, to address the well being of communities. It strengthens partner country science and innovation capacity and unlocks further funding to support this work Delivered through 15 UK partners that develop and run calls, and allocate and manage the funding 3 broad activities: People: increasing capacity in science and innovation, individually and institutionally in partner countries Research: research collaborations on development topics Translation: creating collaborative solutions to development challenges and strengthening innovation systems
19 Official Development Assistance (ODA) Key measure used in most aid targets and assessments of aid performance Definition agreed in 1969 by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) In 1970 most DAC members agreed to long term objective of spending 0.7% of GNI on ODA In 2004 UK set itself the target to achieve 0.7% by 2013 Detailed programme-level data scrutinised and published by the OECD
