3M Clean-Trace Hygiene Management Solution
What we ll look at: ATP rapid hygiene testing: an introduction HCAI Technology Innovation Programme & RRP status 3M Clean-Trace Hygiene Management Solution - benefits Applications Pricing options Trial process 2
ATP rapid hygiene testing: an introduction ATP rapid hygiene testing is based on the measurement of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) - the energy molecule for all animal, vegetable, bacteria, yeast and mould cells. A method to assess cleanliness of environmental surfaces in real time. The technology detects the presence of organic residues, in addition to microorganisms, which have been left on a surface after inadequate cleaning and or sanitation. 3
The Principle Behind ATP Bioluminescence ATP: Adenosine Triphosphate The energy currency molecule of all living organisms + Luciferin/luciferase 4
Simple Relationship increase in light (RLU) increase in ATP levels increase in organisms or organic residues 5
Comparison of current methods for assessing hygiene Results from a study undertaken in Beaumont Hospital in Ireland 1 Method Test points considered acceptable or clean ATP 71.5% Microbiological (ACC) 92.1% Presence of MRSA 95.0% Visual assessment 93.3% 6
The Benefits of Using ATP as a Risk Indicator Microorganisms Organic residues DIRECT RISK Contamination, infection INDIRECT RISK Encourage growth of microorganisms and possible cross contamination Presence of ATP indicates direct and indirect risks 7
HCAI Technology Innovation Programme & RRP status 3M Clean-Trace Clinical ATP System is the only ATP system to be awarded the RRP Level 1 recommendation 8
HCAI Technology Innovation Programme & RRP status Joint project between the UK Government Department of Health and NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency Aims to speed up the development and introduction of new technologies to help combat Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) in our hospitals Six infection prevention products awarded Rapid Review Panel Level 1 recommendation Evaluated in seven Showcase Hospitals across England 9
HCAI Technology Innovation Programme Showcase Hospitals Trial Report In each showcase hospital the product was used: June to October 2008 On four wards Twenty test points per ward Seven days per week (over 53,000 readings) Reductions in biocontamination levels were observed 10
HCAI Technology Innovation Programme Showcase Hospitals Trial Report Strong evidence that RLU levels reduced over the time of the trials 11
HCAI Technology Innovation Programme Showcase Hospitals Trial Report All seven hospitals experienced an overall decline in the level of contamination from an average of 568 to 194 Relative Light Units (RLU) Example graph from The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust 12
HCAI Technology Innovation Programme Showcase Hospitals Trial Report Cleaning managers were impressed with the results and the improvements in their cleaning protocol: The Clean-Trace Clinical ATP system has been a great success; staff are receiving feedback and becoming competitive. At one hospital it was also noted that the Clean-Trace Clinical ATP system introduced a good spirit of competition among staff to ensure their wards were the cleanest. 13

Benefits Easy to use: The simplicity of tests reduces variability from user to user ensuring accurate and consistent results Minimal training required Easy integration into existing daily cleaning checks Rapid results: Results available in less than 30 seconds Allows assessment of the hygienic status of facilities in real time Enables immediate corrective actions and proactive cleaning schedules 24
Benefits Quantitative monitoring: Provides quantitative test scores in proportion to the amount of organic matter present on the surface tested Enables the identification of potential high-risk areas Simple to interpret: Results are presented as Relative Light Units (RLU) that directly relate to the degree of contamination on equipment or surfaces 25
Benefits Reliable and accurate: Can be combined with subjective visual assessments to provide a more accurate assessment of hygiene status. Superior repeatability 2,3 and excellent sensitivity 3 Improved cleaning quality assurance: Enables potential adjustment of cleaning frequency, chemicals and contact time May enable cost savings on cleaning materials and labour requirements Provides an excellent training tool enabling personnel to see a clear and immediate link between good hygiene practice and the hygiene test result 26
Benefits The NEW Online reporting system: Secure capture and storage of hygiene data Automated online report generation to help comply with audit requirements Minimises administration time of preparing hygiene reports Reports provide easy identification of priority areas for targeted testing Clear identification of re-test results alongside original results showing remedial actions and demonstrating due diligence Flexibility to choose the auto-generated report type, the target audience and frequency of distribution Reports ed to all identified stakeholders at scheduled frequency Automated alerts for hygiene non-conformance 27
Applications Routine ward hygiene management Monitoring of mobile equipment Monitoring of equipment impacting tissue viability Outbreak & discharge deep cleans Confirmation of decontamination effectiveness 28
3M Clean-Trace Hygiene Management Solution The solution offers a comprehensive approach to ATP rapid hygiene monitoring with the flexibility to scale up as hygiene plans evolve. 3M Clean-Trace Clinical ATP Swabs 3M Clean-Trace NGi Luminometer & Docking Station 3M Clean-Trace Online Reporting System 3M service and support 3M technical consultancy 29
