(i) Carry out a feasibility study on Citrus in Machakos and Kakamega District; Produce citrus greening and viral-free seedlings through tissue culture ; Multiply rootstocks and scions of selected varieties of citrus through tissue culture; (iv) Ascertain trueness-to type of produced seedlings; (v) (vi) Harden the produced seedlings in the greenhouse and on farmers fields; Develop indexing procedures for produced seedlings for the greening and Triteza virus. (vii) Carry out on-farm trials with individual small scale farmers within the pilot Districts; (viii) Characterize the alpha sub-group of the Proteobacteria that causes the citrus greening disease in Kenya through DNA sequencing. (ix) (x) Determine the important citrus pests in Machakos and Kakamega and to develop natural enemies for the control of citrus psyllids that control the greening disease of citrus. To carry out an impact study on the pilot areas before disseminating seedlings to other Districts.
