NCAMP Technical Review Collaborating Partners 10:00 11:00 AM CDT Relationship with SAE AMS P17 COMPOSITE MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS 16 May
SAE AMS P17 AMS P17 is a subcommittee within SAE AMS Polymeric and Composite Materials Committee P and has responsibility for the writing and revising of Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS), Metric Aerospace Material Specifications (MAM), Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARP), and Aerospace Information Reports (AIR) for the composite materials contained within MIL-HDBK HDBK-17 and NCAMP database. 2
AMS P17 Objectives The long term objective of P17 is to develop, approve, release, and maintain Industry Consensus Standard Composite Material Specifications that are tied specifically to the MIL-HDBK HDBK-17 and NCAMP Database. ASTM test methods will be used within the specifications and data reduction methods will be based on MIL-HDBK HDBK-17 approved procedures. SAE AMS P17 generated specifications will comply with the guidelines and methods specified within MIL-HDBK HDBK-17 The intent of this activity is to reduce overall qualification costs using a process that is acceptable to primes, suppliers, fabricators, and certifying agencies. 3
P17 History Pre-history goes back some years Formal kick-off meeting Feb 2003, 45 th MIL17 meeting, Monterey Gregg Bogucki, Boeing St Louis, Chair Rich Fields, Lockheed Martin Orlando, Vice Chair Initial draft presented for feedback and discussion at 2 nd P17 (46 th MIL17) meeting, Charleston 4
Specific Near-Term Objectives Generate Initial Base and Detail Carbon/Epoxy Tape & Fabric AMS Specifications Each supporting detail specifications will contain the details of a specific material system First Committee Ballot Scheduled for June 2006 Generate a supporting SAE Qualification Plan Document Define Process: Who does what & how Incorporate PRI and NADCAP into process Tie specifications to MIL-HDBK HDBK-17 and NCAMP Database Transition NCAMP Specifications to AMS Format \ 5
