1 11778 Carmel Creek Road, #306 San Diego, California JAY WHITNEY (858) (858) home mobile SOFTWARE AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL I am a technology professional with experience in product management, software development, coding, and development management. I am able to effectively integrate product development with company objectives and customer requirements. My background includes consulting, startups, emerging company, and Fortune 500 experience. I founded and acted as chief product innovator for a product- and market-driven software company. Developed a suite of integrated cross-platform system and network management products, which were sold to many of the largest corporations in the United States. Early products were developed for VAX clusters. New products were extended to Microsoft Windows and to open systems including Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Linux. Perhaps my greatest success has been my ability to train others in skills that they did not previously possess especially software design and coding. I thrive in a team atmosphere, with agile or structured methodologies and I am extremely comfortable in a team leadership role and as an energetic team member. The suite consisted of a Windows desktop solution based upon Microsoft C#,.net and MapInfo; and a web-based active content delivery based upon Java, servlets, and MapInfo MapXtreme. Both shared a common Oracle 10g back-end with the Spatial Option and PL/SQL stored procedures. My approach was as a hands-on Chief Architect accountable for developing technical architecture and leading others in the creation of the overall design and technical specifications for for the product line. Key accomplishments and elements of this role included: Evaluated and prioritized requirements based on optimal implementation order given product architecture, identifying architecturally significant and/or impactful requirements Produced, documented, maintained, and enforced software, system, and component architecture Directly managed the development work-product of off-shore resources to ensure delivery quality and acceptance, schedule management, compliance with Nielsen standards and proper documentation Determined the major software and implementation patterns and mechanisms
3 Jay W. Whitney, Page 3 Made the strategic architectural decisions that constrained the products design and implementation Enforced the integrity of the software architecture by collaborating with and mentoring the development staff Analyzed product requirements to define solution architectures Designed and developed reusable components for application integration Recommended and reviewed specific application integration techniques and available technologies (TIBCO BusinessWorks, IBM SOA Foundation, and Software AG webmethods). The mission was to integrate the site and demographic solutions with products throughout Nielsen and our business partners Established, communicated, and enforced application design patterns, interface standards, and development guidelines Ensured that technical designs complied with applicable architectural standards and that those designs were functionally and technically feasible Led proof-of-concept exercises with sister companies Validated the technology's ability to meet business, performance, integration, and scalability requirements for all site platforms Personally and directly established low-level/kernel Oracle and Linux host tuning parameters delivering a 3x response improvement. Without this, acceptance would have failed.
