5 Transforming the Past In financial services, especially insurance, there is usually very little benefit in simply migrating to a new monolithic platform. We would be foolish to lose our investments in the past, so we have to find a way to keep these legacy engines around for a fairly long time while still allowing us to move forward rapidly. 9 Finding the Right Technology Partners 1. Your traditional partners will NOT understand you. 2. No vendor of administration capabilities will understand why you want to reuse what you have, and enable process-oriented systems. 3. Even those who sell you SOA based systems will end up being monoliths, because if don t intend to govern the services short sighted projects will implement the new systems without the ability to reuse it. If you buy a SYSTEM to do it for you, you may be locking yourself into their vision of your future. However, investing in flexible tooling, standardizing on architecture rather than tools, and driving process ownership and data ownership from where it belongs in the business - you can achieve flexibility and open yourself up for opportunities you may not have envisioned.
