5 1. PURPOSE The Charter Township of Canton (Township) is seeking a technology Vendor from which we can purchase a new Storage Area Network (SAN) to replace our existing Dell EqualLogic PS Series SAN. The vendor will have qualified staff that will install and integrate the proposed SAN and required networking into the Township s data center. The vendor will also provide methodologies for migration of the existing SAN data to the new SAN utilizing vendor or manufacturer software tools or scripts. The Township IT Services would consider the Township s needs to be that of midlevel enterprise when considering the level of solution to propose. Should the pricing submitted be sufficiently cost effective, the Township would entertain the purchase of a 2 nd unit for the purposes of replication. In the event the Township s budget cannot cover the purchase of two units, the Township will use the 2 nd unit costing in its 2019 budget requests. 2. BACKGROUND The Township currently utilizes three (3) functioning Dell EqualLogic PS6100 series arrays with approximately 19TB of total storage with 16TB in use on 1 primary array. The 2 nd and 3 rd arrays act as replication targets to the first. The Township also maintains one (1) physical Windows Server 2012R2 file server with 6TB of space with 4TB of DAS storage in use, it is planned to migrate this resource to the virtual realm. The current network switches of the existing SAN should be considered for upgrade as well to provide for end-to-end improvement in the user experience of an upgraded data SAN. The current arrays are connected to Force 10 and HP ProCurve 100/1000 RJ45 Ethernet switches totaling 96 ports in all utilizing iscsi The four (4) physical VMware servers currently host ~50 virtual machines. Current datastores range in size from 250GB to 1TB in size supporting the block storage needs of the virtual environment. The existing SAN network infrastructure should be considered for upgrade as part of this project, a minimum of 10gb is required. The Township utilizes Dell R700 series servers for its virtual and physical environment. A proposed solution must be present on the VMware HCL at time of submission for VMware ESXi v6.5. Additional HCL and VVols compatibility requirements are specified below The Township is currently preparing to fully accept and store electronic documentation as its official means of record keeping. In 2016 the Township adopted OnBase as it s document management system, current configurations of OnBase rely on the use of Windows file shares as its method of data storage. The winning SAN must support VMware VVols are part of their solution.

6 3. SAN OBJECTIVES The Township is replacing the current SAN environment with upgraded technology to provide opportunity for better performance, data availability and scalability. The IOPS listed are a result of small point-in-time technical evaluations of our existing virtual servers and should be used as a guideline for general applicability. j) Provide support for both SSD and SAS 2.5 drives only. SAS drives will have no less than 10k RPM. Solutions specifying SATA or NL-SAS drives in the primary array will not be considered. NL-SAS and SATA drives are acceptable in the 2 nd array configuration to achieve cost savings. k) Provide for overall useable space as delivered to be no less than 30TB of undeduplicated/uncompressed space a. +/- 5% for formatting permissible. The vendor must provide all costs, initial procurement, support and maintenance years 1-3 and alternative years 4-5, physical setup, network integration, single network device to facilitate the establishment of an off-site backup array. The Township does not currently own the expanded VMware licensing to facilitate real-time VMware replication. The Township does desire to begin laying the ground work for the build-out of a DR site within the next 2-4 budget years and views a 2 nd unit to be the cornerstone of such a site. The Township has multiple sites it can choose to host a 2 nd unit which is accessible through multiple 10g fiber pairs, the chosen hosting site will be decided after primary on-site network planning meeting. The Township assumes responsibility of physical delivery to the 2 nd site only. The vendor retains responsibility for ensuring receipt of all appropriate and billable components.
