This European Technical Approval is issued by VTT Expert Services Ltd in accordance with: Council Directive 89/106/EEC of 21 December 1988 on the approximation of laws, regulations and administrative provisions of Member States relating to construction products 1, modified by Council Directive 93/68/EEC 2 and Regulation (EC) N 1882/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council 3 ; Laki rakennustuotteiden hyväksynnästä (230/2003) luvut 3 ja 10, Ympäristöministeriön asetus rakennustuotteiden hyväksynnästä 3 sekä Ympäristöministeriön antama valtuutuspäätös (YM19/629/2009). Common Procedural Rules for Requesting, Preparing and the Granting of European Technical Approvals set out in the Annex of Commission Decision 94/23/EC 4 ; Guideline Nr 011 for European Technical Approval of Light Composite Wood-based Beams and Columns 2. VTT Expert Services Ltd is authorized to check whether the provisions of this European Technical Approval are met. Checking may take place in the manufacturing plant. Nevertheless, the responsibility for the conformity of the products to the European Technical Approval and for their fitness for the intended use remains with the holder of the European Technical Approval. 3. This European Technical Approval is not to be transferred to manufacturers or agents of manufacturer other than those indicated on page 1, or manufacturing plants other than those indicated on page 1 of this European Technical Approval. 4. This European Technical Approval may be withdrawn by VTT Expert Services Ltd pursuant to information by the Commission according to Article 5(1) of Council Directive 89/106/EEC. 5. Reproduction of this European Technical Approval including transmission by electronic means shall be in full. However, partial reproduction can be made with the written consent of VTT Expert Services Ltd. In this case partial reproduction has to be designated as such. Texts and drawings of advertising brochures shall not contradict or misuse the European Technical Approval. 6. The European Technical Approval is issued by the approval body in English. 3 Page 3 of European Technical Approval ETA-13/0504, issued on June 12, SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF THE EUROPEAN TECHNICAL APPROVAL 1 Definition of product and intended use 1.1 Product types Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are made of Kerto LVL (laminated veneer lumber) parts that are glued together with an adhesive of type I as defined in EN 301. There are several types of products that all are manufactured according to the same principles: Kerto glued component type 1 Beams with rectangular cross section. The beams are glued of Kerto-S or Kerto-Q LVL or both and can be used edgewise or flatwise. Kerto glued component type 2 Beams with I cross section or hollow cross section. The webs of the beams are made of Kerto-Q LVL and the flanges of Kerto-S or Kerto-Q LVL. Kerto glued component type 3 Bracing columns glued of two or three Kerto-Q LVL slabs. More detailed information about the products is given in Annex Intended use Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are intended to be used as load bearing parts of building constructions. With regard to moisture behaviour of the product, the use is limited to service classes 1 and 2 as defined in EN This ETA does not cover Metsä Wood Kerto glued components subjected to fatigue loads or to prolonged exposure to temperatures over 50 C. Bracing columns are used with a moment rigid base joint made by e.g. glued-in rods. They are loaded by vertical compression forces and horizontal forces parallel to the stronger direction of the cross section. The columns shall be braced in the weaker direction on the both edges by lateral supports. This ETA does not cover the design of bracing columns subjected to bending in the weaker direction. The provisions made in this European Technical Approval are based on an assumed intended working life of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components of 50 years. 5 5 This means that it is expected that when this working life has elapsed, the real working life may be, in normal use conditions, considerably longer without major degradation affecting the essential requirements of the works. The indications given as to the working life of a building kit cannot be interpreted as a guarantee given by the producer or the approval body. They should only be regarded as a means for the specifiers to choose the appropriate criteria for building kits in relation to the expected, economically reasonable working life of the works.

4 Page 4 of European Technical Approval ETA-13/0504, issued on June 12, Characteristics of product and methods of verification ER 1 Mechanical resistance and stability Mechanical resistance and stiffness The components are manufactured according to an individual design made on a case by case basis by the manufacturer, by a third party according to the design instructions of the manufacturer or delivered as standard products. Strength values of Kerto LVL to be used in design together with information of the dimensions of the components are given in Annex 1. 6 VTT Expert Services has approved the design instructions of the manufacturer. In case of updating, the new versions shall be approved by VTT Expert Services Ltd. Cross sections of Kerto glued components are in general symmetrical or almost symmetrical thus minimizing any effects of moisture changes to overall shape of the cross section. Bracing columns are used in conditions where the relative humidity is equal or almost equal on both sides. No distortion of the cross sections is expected in normal use conditions. Effect of varying moisture content to the nominal dimensions is normally negligible and within the tolerances given. 6 This means that Methods 1, 3a or 3b according to Guidance Paper L has been used.

(See also clauses 4.1 and Design and Installation.) ER 2 Safety in case of fire Reaction to fire Metsä Wood Kerto glued components consist of Kerto LVL classified to have reaction to fire class D s1,d0. Resistance to fire For resistance to fire, load-bearing performance (class R) can be determined in accordance with EN as a part of design of works. 7 (See also clause 4.1 Design.) ER 3 Hygiene, health and environment With regard to dangerous substances, the Metsä Wood Kerto glued components belong to use categories IA1, IA2 and S/W3. Based on the declaration of the manufacturer and the assessment of the Approval Body, Metsä Wood Kerto glued components do not contain harmful or dangerous substances as defined in the EU database, with exception of formaldehyde. The formaldehyde release class of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components is E1 in accordance with EN The product does not contain any pentachlorophenol. In addition to the specific clauses relating to dangerous substances contained in this European Technical Approval, there may be other requirements applicable to the products falling within its scope (e.g. transposed European legislation and national laws, regulations and administrative provisions). In order to meet the provisions of the EU Construction Products Directive, these requirements need also to be complied with, when and where they apply. ER 4 Safety in use Not relevant. ER 5 Protection against noise Not relevant. ER 6 Energy economy and heat retention The thermal conductivity for Kerto-S and Kerto-Q LVL is 0,13 W/(m K) according to EN ISO The natural density variation of the materials is taken into account in this value. 7 Resistance to fire (class REI) for structures where Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are incorporated should be determined for the complete construction.

6 Page 6 of European Technical Approval ETA-13/0504, issued on June 12, 2013 Aspects of durability, serviceability and identification Durability The adhesive of type I can also be used in service class 3 but the untreated Kerto LVL flange and web materials do not withstand attacks from fungi. Thus, Metsä Wood Kerto glued components can be used in service classes 1 and 2 according to EN , and hazard classes 1 and 2 as specified in EN 335. The product may be exposed to the weather for a short time during installation. Durability may be reduced by attack from insects such as long horn beetle, dry wood termites and anobium in regions where these may be found. Serviceability Serviceability of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components is understood as their ability to resist loads without unacceptable deformation. This characteristic is treated under ER 1. Identification Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are identified by the components being of Kerto LVL and the CE marking of the products as described in clause Evaluation and attestation of conformity and CE marking 3.1 System of attestation of conformity The system of attestation of conformity specified by the European Commission in Decision 99/92/EC - Official Journal L 29, is System 1, according to Council Directive 89/106/EEC Annex III.2.(i), without audit-testing of samples, and provides: Certification of the conformity of the product by an approved certification body on the basis of: (a) (b) Tasks for the manufacturer: (1) factory production control; (2) further testing of samples taken at the factory by the manufacturer in accordance with a prescribed test plan; Tasks for the approved body: (3) initial type-testing of the product; (4) initial inspection of factory and of factory production control; (5) continuous surveillance, assessment and approval of factory production control; 3.2 Responsibilities Tasks of the manufacturer Factory production control The manufacturer shall exercise permanent factory production control according to the written quality manual, which is endorsed by the approved body. The factory production control includes checking of incoming components and process controls like glue spread and curing temperatures.

7 Page 7 of European Technical Approval ETA-13/0504, issued on June 12, Testing of samples taken at the factory Testing of samples taken at the factory according to a prescribed control plan is part of the factory production control. The control plan is deposited at the VTT Expert Services Ltd, and is available to approved bodies involved in the attestation of conformity to this ETA Tasks of approved bodies General Several approved bodies may be involved in the certification so that the products manufactured by different manufacturers in different MS may be certified by different approved certification bodies. Each manufacturer and the respective certification body shall have a certification contract regulating the duties of the parties. The approved certification bodies shall report to VTT Expert Services Ltd Initial type testing of the product Approval tests have been conducted by the approval body or under its responsibility in accordance with section 5 of the ETA Guideline. VTT Expert Services Ltd has assessed the results of these tests in accordance with section 6 of the ETA Guideline, as part of the ETA issuing procedure. The product characteristics determined by the initial test programme and by the experience of the external inspections is found sufficient to serve as initial type testing. This shall be validated by the approved body for the purpose of certification of conformity. In case of a new manufacturing line, initial type testing shall be done according to the control plan to verify that the production line in question is able to manufacture products in conformity with the ETA Initial inspection of the factory and the factory production control An approved body shall conduct initial inspection of each manufacturing line in order to ensure that the premises and technical equipment are acceptable, personnel is qualified and a factory production control system, which is in accordance with the provisions in the ETA Guideline and this ETA, is followed. The gluing procedure shall be separately assessed in case of each line Continuous surveillance, assessment and approval of the factory production control The approved body shall visit the factory at least twice a year for regular inspection. It shall be verified that the factory production control is performed according to the manufacturer s quality manual, including tests of samples according to the prescribed test plan Certification When all the criteria of the Conformity Attestation are satisfied the approved certification body shall issue a Certification of Conformity with this European Technical Approval, normally for each manufacturing line separately as specified in the control plan. In the certificate shall be stated which kind of composite components the line is certified for. In cases where the provisions of the European Technical Approval and the prescribed test plan are no longer fulfilled, the Certification of Conformity shall be withdrawn.

8 Page 8 of European Technical Approval ETA-13/0504, issued on June 12, CE-Marking The CE marking shall be affixed on each Metsä Wood Kerto glued component. The CE marking shall be accompanied by the following information: identification number of the notified certification body (System 1) the name or identifying mark of the producer and the registered address of the producer last two digits of the year in which the marking was affixed the number of the EC certificate of conformity (System 1) number of the ETA project number and element number or a corresponding identification of the characteristics of the Metsä Wood Kerto glued component. 4 Assumptions under which the fitness of the product for the intended use was favourably assessed 4.1 Design of works For each individual building project, a specific structural design shall be made on behalf of the manufacturer according to the instructions of the ETA holder by a person responsible for the task according to the laws of the MS. The design also shall take into account any aspects regarding installation of the components, as any temporary bracing and supporting. When relevant, also other performances in addition to ER1 shall be documented in the design (ER2, ER6). In case of seismic actions, the ductile behaviour of the final works will be guaranteed, if requested, by joints and connections appropriately designed and realized according to the relevant national rules on design and execution of works. 4.2 Manufacturing Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are manufactured in the factory in accordance with the provisions of this European Technical Approval as identified during inspections of the plants by VTT Expert Services Ltd or on behalf of it. The ETA holder shall have separate agreements with those manufacturers that act as independent companies. VTT Expert Services Ltd will enclose a new manufacturing place on the list of manufacturers (Annex N) when all the provisions of this ETA and the control plan of it have been fulfilled. Gluing of the components shall be performed according to ETA holder's instructions assessed by VTT Expert Services Ltd. Gluing pressure may be achieved by screws or nails or other methods as specified in detail in the instructions of the ETA holder. When the instructions are updated, the updated version shall be approved by VTT Expert Services Ltd. 4.3 Installation Metsä Wood Kerto glued components shall be installed by appropriately qualified personnel, following the installation plan.

9 Page 9 of European Technical Approval ETA-13/0504, issued on June 12, Recommendations 5.1 Recommendations on packaging, transport and storage Metsä Wood Kerto glued components shall be protected against harmful wetting during transport and storage. Metsä Wood Kerto glued components must not be lifted or stored in such a way that excessive deformation may cause damage to them. The manufacturer shall ensure that the information of these provisions is given to those concerned. 5.2 Recommendations on use, maintenance and repair Before the installation it shall be controlled that Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are not damaged during transport or storage. Damaged Metsä Wood Kerto glued components shall be replaced by sound ones. If there is a need to modify or repair the construction this may be done if the installation plan mentioned under Clause 4.3 still can be followed. The manufacturer shall ensure that the information of these provisions is given to those concerned. Typical cross sections of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components. Composite action of the parts is achieved by adhesive bonded joints. Mechanical connectors are not used to achieve the composite action of the parts, but nails or screws between the parts may be used in order to achieve the pressure needed for a proper glue bond. Therefore, cross sections of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components are allowed to be handled as monolithic. Design shall be carried out according to EN and EN

Additional restrictions and complementing information given in the approved design rules shall be followed. Kerto glued component type 1 Typical cross sections are shown in Figure 1-1. The beams are glued of Kerto-S or Kerto-Q LVL or both. Maximum length is 26 m. Dimensions depend on manufacturing method. The thickness of Kerto-S laminations is mm while the width of the laminations may be mm. The thickness of Kerto-Q laminations is mm while the width of the laminations may be mm. When used in edgewise bending, the components may have uniform height or they may be single or double tapered. Thickness of web b w is mm for I- beams and mm for box beams. Flange width b is mm for I-beams and mm for box beams. These beams may have uniform height or they may be single or double tapered. Holes are allowed to be taken in the web in accordance with the design instructions. Size effect on characteristic strength values shall be taken into account according to following equations. For Kerto glued component type 1 used edgewise, depth variations between the Kerto LVL parts within the same cross section are not allowed. 3 Specifications of components The components are made of Kerto LVL produced by Metsä Wood Lohja Mill or Punkaharju Mill or corresponding Kerto LVL. Orientation of the Kerto LVL material is given in Figure 1-2. The material properties comply with EN The characteristic strength values of the Kerto LVL shall be at least as given in Table 1-1. The adhesive used in manufacturing of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components is of type I (full exposure to the weather) as defined in EN 301. The adhesives used shall be approved for gluing of load-bearing structures and suitable for gluing of Kerto LVL. 4 Moisture content When manufactured, the moisture content of the components is below the equilibrium value in use conditions. Due to changing temperature and relative humidity of the surrounding air the moisture content of Metsä Wood Kerto glued components will continuously change.
