1 Fig. 850 (New 01/06) (oncluded) HASSIS, GOOSNK 20 FT TO 40 FT LONG, FOUR-HIGH ON ONTAINR SHIPPING UNIT Notes and Additional Requirements (concluded): 11. Secure the chassis to the SU using all three Item B tie-down straps as follows: (Note: All three straps are to be removed from their storage position and used for either the 20-ft or 40-ft chassis loading.) 11.1.For loading three 20-ft chassis, two Item B straps are to be positioned over the top of the No. 3 chassis as shown in Sketch 1. A third Item B strap is positioned over the No. 2 chassis. If only two chassis are loaded, two Item B straps must be applied over the No. 2 chassis, with the third applied over the No. 1 chassis In loading 40-ft chassis, all three Item B straps are positioned over the top of the upper-most chassis, regardless of the number of chassis loaded Position each strap over the top of the appropriate chassis in alignment with one of the winch sets enter the protective (black) sleeves of the web strap over the sharp angles of the chassis frame so as to protect the webbing from damage Using the winch bar (located in a stowage cavity at the inside of the front left-hand corner of the SU), winch the Item B straps taut from each side of the SU to obtain uniform tension. After the straps are tightened, return the winch bar to the stowage location. Note: If the stowed winch bar is not available, a steel bar 24 in. long and no greater is to be used to tighten the straps. This is to ensure the straps are adequately tightened without applying an excessive amount of force on the chassis After tightening, check that the protective sleeves remain properly positioned to avoid damage to the tie-down webbing. 12. When loading the SU on a 45-ft ground chassis, the SU shall be placed on the chassis so the rear-most ISO sockets of the SU engage the chassis twistlocks and the chassis front pins can engage the slots of the SU. Lock the twistlocks of the chassis and engage the front chassis pins. 13. The fork pockets are to be used only when the SU is empty. Lifting and placing the loaded SU on a OF railcar shall be performed using a container handler with the spreader retracted to the 20-ft ISO position. The SU is to be picked up by the F2 and F3 stanchion locations only. The top-lift operation is the same as that for a standard 20-ft container in OF service. 14. When transporting empty SUs, the eight stanchions of the SU are to be folded down and locked to create a flat-rack. (See Detail A.) Four SUs can be connected together using ISO interbox connectors (IBs). (See Sketch 3.)The four inter-connected SUs can be handled with standard container handling equipment retracted to the 20-ft ISO position. Reference the General Rules in Section No. 1 of the Open Top Loading Rules Manual for additional details. 03/ Section 7, Part 3
