The newly designed simulated sash with beaded profile is a welcome aesthetic improvement. This cost-saving option complements the Continuous Head and Sill (CHS) for pleasing, even sightlines when pairing a direct set fixed unit with an operating casement or awning within the same frame. Innovative technology incorporates better design and enhanced performance. No weep holes, together with CHS construction, significantly reduce the possibility of air and water infiltration boosting energy efficiency and forming a stronger frame. 5 VINYL WINDOWS & PATIO DOORS PRODUCT UPDATES PREMIUM VINYL EARNS ENERGY STAR MOST EFFICIENT 2014 DESIGNATION ENERGY STAR helps consumers make energy efficient choices that help lower heating and cooling costs. A new designation, ENERGY STAR Most Efficient, is reserved for exceptional products that set market trends for energy efficiency. In keeping with JELD-WEN tradition for ENERGY STAR qualified products, the Premium Vinyl window line exceeded ENERGY STAR requirements when introducing the new 1-1/8" glass triple glazing option and earned ENERGY STAR Most Efficient recognition for Criteria for ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2014 certification includes: Windows for residential buildings Certification applicable with ENERGY STAR Partner commitments and product performance factors submitted by a certification body recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Products must be independently certified to meet the North American Fenestration Standard/Specification (NAFS) with a Performance Grade of 15 in accordance with the International Accreditation Forum Multilateral Recognition Agreement and the ISO/IEC Products must meet the following U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). 6 PRODUCT UPDATES STC AND OITC RATINGS ADDED TO NFRC LABELS Sorting through the different types of sound ratings can be challenging. Sound Transmission Class (STC) measures the rate of sound transmission in the range of many common sounds around us, including: speech, TV, barking dog, etc. Outdoor Indoor Transmission Class (OITC) measures the rate of sound transmission between outdoor and interior spaces. The two classes of STC and OITC cannot be compared to each other. To address the potential confusion and prove the most complete data around sound ratings, JELD-WEN is printing both the STC and OITC ratings directly on the Product Certification labels for the following vinyl window products found here. Wood window products will have the feature in Atlantic Vinyl Brick Mould Vinyl Builders Vinyl Flat Casing Vinyl Premium Vinyl SITELINE EX CLAD CASEMENT IMPROVED STC AND OITC RATINGS JELD-WEN recognizes the increase in demand for enhanced sound ratings for windows. In our effort to continually advance our product offering we are pleased to announce that STC and OITC ratings have improved for the Siteline EX clad casement with 1/8" glass over 3/16" glass. SMALLER WINDOWS MEET REQUIRED EGRESS Builders and Brick Mould Vinyl Tilt Single-Hung The new sash lift consolidation design meets building code that, where required, certain windows must meet. 7 WOOD WINDOWS & PATIO DOORS PRODUCT BULLETINS LOW-E THERMAL PERFORMANCE IMPROVES Tradition Plus and W-2500 In keeping with our strong focus of continuous product improvement, the standard glass offering for our W-2500 and Tradition Plus product lines is changing from Low-E 272 to a higher performing Low-E 270 glass. This product enhancement increases thermal performance and aligns with other JELD-WEN products. Low-E 272 replacements will be available in the future for replacement purposes. CASEMENT AND AWNING SCREENS JELD-WEN is moving to a 17 percent thicker wall on our casement and awning screens for W-2500, Tradition Plus, Siteline EX, and Custom products. The upgrade makes it a more durable and reliable screen. Color options include White, Bronze and Desert Sand. Chestnut Bronze Brilliant White Desert Sand STAINLESS STEEL ROLLER BIG IMPROVEMENT FOR SLIDING DOOR SCREEN Builders and Premium Wood Sliding Patio Doors have a new stainless steel wheel on a ball bearing hub. It significantly outperforms the previous plastic wheel. Improvements include a quieter and smoother operation, sturdier design and better overall performance. SMALLER GAUGE NAIL IMPROVES AESTHETICS W-2500, Tradition Plus and Siteline EX Wood Windows Customers ordering windows with an interior finish will appreciate the move from an 18-gauge to a 23-gauge headless nail on stops and mull covers. 10 CASE STUDY VOTH RESIDENCE, LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA Project Challenge When Rick and Connie Voth decided to build on the verdant two-acre wooded property in the heart of Cajun country in Lafayette, they opted to renovate the original 150-year old former sharecropper s cottage that had been moved to the site a half-century ago. Preserving the historic structure was extremely important to the homeowners and crucial to the project team who brought back some of its original Cajun style and also designed and built a substantial addition around it. Architectural Solution This extensive renovation showcases a mélange of details, including some Acadian elements such as the pitched roof and French doors.
