1 July 22, 2003 Page 1 This section addresses NEW stained glass windows comprising stained glass (as an art form), set in a structural window frame and placed in a wall or skylight opening. The stained glass is usually protected on one or both faces with clear glass or plastic protective glazing. The air barrier (air seal) element of the assembly is usually at or near the inner surface of the glazed assembly in a colder weather environment. With multiple panels of glazing, the air spaces between panes may be ventilated with special vent devices, and positioned to achieve an air seal in the correct location within the window assembly based on building enclosure principles. Glass Paint: Finely ground glass, binder, and vehicle, metallic oxides, opaque vitreous color or Silver stain consisting of Clear solution of silver nitrate with kiln firing. G. Cement: Calcium carbonate, cement powder, carbon black, linseed oil, turpentine. H. Epoxy: Two component, setting time commensurate with application. 2.7 FABRICATION A. Prepare final design rendering proposal for approval by Owner. B. Prepare full-size pattern drawing, indicating lead came lines in the window. C. Leaded Glass Windows: 1. Arrange and place glass pieces, according to full-size design pattern. 2. Place glass pieces, cutting and placing lead came strips until every component is in place. 3. Butt joint lead came without gaps, or tuck the lead came crown under the flanges of the adjoining leads heart. 4. Solder lead strips together at each joint, creating one continuous metal matrix to hold stained glass together. Solder backside. 5. Cement assembly by pushing cement or putty into space between flanges of lead came and glass on both sides of window. 6. Clean of excess cement with whiting compound to polish and clean glass. D. [Place metal reinforcing bars to stained glass panels where indicated.] E. Painted Glass: 1. Paint segments or detailed areas according to design requirements. F. Faceted Glass: Faceted glass panels should not exceed 1.5 sq m (16 sq feet) for a structurally sound window. 1. Arrange glass pieces according to design pattern. 2. Pour epoxy resin between each piece of glass to form structural matrix. 3. Cover epoxy with colored granules. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Verify that openings for glazing are correctly sized, within tolerance and clean. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install new window frame assembly, anchor and seal to achieve performance requirements specified.

Inset protective glazing that is without perimeter framing should be vented through the glazing material with a rain guard and bug screen. E. Exterior Protective Covering: 1.
