2 AGGREGATE STUNNING Objective: How does aggregate stunning manifest, what is the cause and how to avoid this problem will be discussed in a classroom setting. Also, what can be done to fix a problem should it occur will be discussed. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors, Estimators, Owners and Mechanics; Length: 1 CAST IN PLACE TERRAZZO Objective: The cast in place terrazzo training class will consist of both classroom and hands-on-training. Learn the basics of installing treads and risers in the field. Various stair configurations, mix designs and grinding techniques will be discussed. Actual placing of the treads and risers will be part of the session. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees discussions and all attendees will be expected to apply material in a large sample demonstration. Attendees should bring their own hand tools. Length: 2.5 days DIAMOND TECHNOLOGY Objective: The newer methods of grinding terrazzo incorporating the latest diamond technology will be discussed in a classroom format and demonstrations will be conducted using grinding equipment with diamonds. Topic include How to match the diamond to the type of terrazzo and the aggregate used, the removal of grout using diamonds and taking terrazzo to a higher polish using diamonds. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and participate in classroom discussions. Length: 8 hours. DIVIDER STRIP EDUCATION Objective: The divider strip training class will focus on the types of divider strips and where and when to use. Adhering strips, cutting and bending for connections and radius work to be demonstrated. Creating and mapping locations for design elements and the use of logos and metal medallions will be discussed. Learn the effect of abrasives on metal. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 2 hours. EXTREME TERRAZZO Objective: An overview of terrazzo installations that out of the ordinary will be discussed in a classroom setting. This discussion will include topics such as terrazzo on raised access floors, terrazzo over acoustical membranes and terrazzo over floors containing radiant heating systems. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors Estimators, Owners and participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1 FIELD MEASURING Objective: The training is designed to define the best methods of measuring for pre-cast terrazzo products. How to use templates and other devices will be covered. The terrazzo products will include base, treads and risers, column covers and other complicated pre-cast terrazzo pieces. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors, Estimators and participate in classroom discussions. Length: 4 hours.
3 GRINDING GLASS AGGREGATES Objective: The training class will focus on the grinding of glass aggregates. New techniques will be demonstrated to prevent as much breakage of the glass as possible. Both classroom discussion and hands on training will be conducted. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions and all attendees will be expected to participate in the demonstration. Length: 1 day. GROUTING/GRINDING TERRAZZO Objective: The terrazzo training class will consist of both classroom and hands-on training. Learn the methods of grouting and the new techniques of removing the grout. A hands-on demonstration will be held for both the grouting process and the removal. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and participate in classroom discussions and all attendees will be expected to apply material in a large sample demonstration. Attendees should bring their own hand tools. Length: 2 days. GROUTING Objective: The grouting class will consist of a classroom discussion on the various methods used to grout terrazzo floors. Included will be a brief discussion on the techniques used to remove grout. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1 DIVIDER STRIP PLACEMENT Objective: The divider strip training class will consist of classroom discussions on where to place divider strips and the method of placing strips in resin and cement terrazzo. What joints and cuts in the concrete must be recognized. Emphasis will be placed on working with the architect for the location of expansion strips. Types of strips and metal inserts will be discussed. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Estimators. Length: 1 MANAGING EXPECTATIONS METHODS OF FLATTENING A SLAB Objective: How to manage expectations from the owner or architect will be discussed in a classroom setting. How to prepare for the questions related to quality control issues or installation issues will be covered. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Owners. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1 Objective: Methods of flattening a slab for the installation of epoxy terrazzo will be discussed in a classroom setting. Acceptable materials for the process will be discussed. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors, Estimators and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1
4 MIX DESIGN Objective: The mix design of terrazzo as it applies to the percentage of glass and the sizes, the amount of smaller aggregate that can be acceptable and the resin to aggregate ratio will be discussed in a classroom setting. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors Estimators and Mechanics. All attendees discussions. Length: 1 MOISTURE TESTING Objective: The methods of moisture including the plastic sheet method, the humidity probe test and the calcium chloride test will be discussed in detail in a classroom setting. Sample instruments will be available for demonstration. Who Should Attend: The session is designed for field supervisors, project managers and owners who are responsibility for specifying or installing moisture control systems; Length: 1 NEW SDS NOTICE LETTER Objective: Material Safety Data Sheets have changed. This classroom discussion will review the new formats. Regulations require employees to be trained on the new regulations. Who Should Attend: All owners and employees. All attendees discussions. Length: 1 Objective: The NTMA notice letters and how they should be used will be discussed in a classroom setting. Topics will include moisture related issues, flatness, cracking, warranties and other topics covered in the NTMA letters. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Owners. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1 PROTECTING TERRAZZO RESTORING TERRAZZO Objective: Methods to protect terrazzo will held in a classroom setting. Topics will include materials to protect terrazzo, and who should protect and typical language in a terrazzo specification. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors, Owners and Estimators. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1 Objective: Restoring training will consist of a classroom discussion on what procedures are needed to restore terrazzo. The discussion will include crack repair, patching and finishes. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees discussions. Length: 2 hours.
5 RUSTIC TERRAZZO Objective: The rustic terrazzo training class will consist of both classroom and hands-on training. Learn the types of rustic, surface preparation required, under-bed and topping mix designs, methods of exposing the aggregate, strip placement, sealing and maintenance. Placing of the under-bed, strips and topping will be part of hands- on sessions. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and participate in classroom discussions and all attendees will be expected to apply material in a large sample demonstration. Attendees should bring their own hand tools. Length: 2.5 days. SAND CUSHION Objective: The sand cushion terrazzo training class will consist of both classroom and hands-on training. Learn the basics of sand cushion, under-bed and topping mix designs, strip placement, sealing and maintenance. Placing of the under-bed, strips and topping will be part of hands- on sessions. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions and all attendees will be expected to apply material in a large mock-up demonstration. Attendees should bring their own hand tools. Length: 2.5 days. SEALING TERRAZZO FLOORS Objective: The training class on sealing terrazzo floors will consist of both classroom and hands on training. Types of sealers will be discussed and sealers will be applied in a hands-on session. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions and all attendees will be expected to apply material in a large sample demonstration. Length: 1 day. SHOP DRAWING Objective: The training class on shop drawings will consist of a classroom presentation on the fundamentals of shop drawings. Learn the basics of what the general contractor and architects wants in shop drawings. How to submit a drawing that details expansion strips, isolation strips, termination strips and strips use for the pattern will be discussed. Who Should Attend: Estimators and Project Managers. All attendees will be expected in active discussion on how to prepare and submit shop drawings. Classroom materials will be provided. Length: 4 hours. SLAB OBSERVATION Objective: The training will consist of a classroom discussion on the questions to ask about the substrate before applying terrazzo. Topics will include slab construction, aggregate mix, vapor barriers, concrete design and joint location. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors, Owners, Estimators and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 4 hours. SPECIAL FINISHES ON-SITE Objective: Special finish training class will consist of a classroom discussion on the benefits of specialized processes to polish terrazzo as well as hands on application of these concepts to a terrazzo floor. Knowledge will be shared around the maintenance and hand off to customers. Who Should Attend: Owners, Project Managers, Crew Workers. Location: This training can be done at a member s location or a location they have installed before. A terrazzo floor is needed for hands on work. Classroom is needed for discussion. Length: 1-Day
6 TERRAZZO IN ELEVATOR CABS Objective: Methods of placing terrazzo in elevator cabs will be discussed. This is a classroom discussion outlining procedures to install terrazzo in an elevator cab. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors, Estimators and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. Length: 1 LARGE AGGREGATE TERRAZZO Objective: Large aggregate training will consist of both classroom and hands-on training. Learn the types of Venetian and Palladiana Cement Terrazzo as well as Venetian and Palladiana Epoxy Terrazzo. Training will consist of surface preparation, under-bed design, types of aggregate and methods of aggregate placement. Methods of strip placement, grouting and grinding, sealing and maintenance will be discussed. Who Should Attend: Field Supervisors and Mechanics. All attendees should be prepared to participate in classroom discussions and be expected to apply materials in a hands-on demonstration. Attendees will provide their own hand tools. Length: 2.5 days. COMPREHENSIVE TERRAZZO FINISHING Objective: Comprehensive Terrazzo Care or Terrazzo Finishing and Maintaining class will consist of a classroom discussion on the benefits of specialized processes to polish terrazzo as well as hands on application of these concepts to a terrazzo floor. Knowledge will be shared around traditional finishing, specialty finishing, machines, and the maintenance and hand off to customers. Who Should Attend: Owners, Project Managers, Crew Workers. Location: This training can be done at a vendor s location. Length: 2 days
