1 PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE OF WORK A. The Contractor shall furnish and install all materials, labor, equipment and incidentals required to provide structural steel shown on the Contract Drawings and as herein specified, and/or as required by job conditions, including but not limited to the following: 1. The furnishing and erection of all structural steel shown on the Structural Drawings, including all connections, plates bearing plates, hangers and masonry anchor bolts. 2. Making provisions for connections of other trades, including cutting, punching and reinforcing where required. 3. The steel erector shall furnish the Concrete Contractor all the necessary anchor bolts for beam base plates, together with all the instructions and templates required for the proper setting thereof. 4. Grouting of all bearing plates furnished under this Section. 5. Shop painting and field touch-up on all Work provided under this Section. 6. All other Work and materials as may be reasonably inferred and needed to make the work of the Section complete REFERENCED STANDARDS A. New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code SUBMITTALS A. Submittals shall be in accordance with Section B. Shop Drawings 1. Shop and Erection Drawings shall be prepared submitted for review. 2. Shop Drawings shall be submitted for approval and shall include all framing plans, base plate location plans and details, and complete painting details, etc. HERITAGE GARDENS STP

2 3. No substitutions of shapes or size will be permitted without approval of the Engineer QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Examine all work prepared to receive work of this Section and report any defects affecting installation to the Engineer. Commencement of work will be construes as complete acceptance of preparatory work by others. B. The Contractor shall take all field measurements required to verify or supplement indicated dimensions to ensure fitting of new steel to existing work and property lines. C. The contractor shall check all existing conditions and framing for conformity with the contract Drawings, and if at variance with the drawings, shall notify the Engineer PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store the equipment furnished under this Section in compliance with the instructions of the equipment manufacturer and as outlined in Section B. Handle and store materials in such manner as to avoid damage. C. All materials supplied under this Section shall be stored off the ground and under cover to protect from damage. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. The Contractor shall obtain from the manufacturer a certified mill test report which shall be submitted to the Engineer as evidence that all materials delivered to the project conform to the following Specifications, latest edition. 1. Structural Steel, ASTM A 36: a. Fy = 36 ksi b. Structural Steel must be made in the USA 2. Welding Electrodes American Welding Society A 5.1, E70 Series. 3. High Strength Bolts: A325 or A449, diameter as specified, unless otherwise shown. B. Shop Paint HERITAGE GARDENS STP

3 1. Tnemec No or 1069 Gray Metal Primer. 2. Tnemec NO. 77 Chem Prime for all steel. C. Grout 1. Base Plates: Embeco pre-mixed grout No Leveling Plate: Embeco pre-mixed mortar No PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 FABRICATION A. Workmanship shall be equal to the best practices in the trade. B. Materials shall be clean and straight. C. All holes shall be accurately drilled or punched at right angles to the member. Burning or drifting unfair holes will not be permitted. Holes that must be enlarged shall be reamed. Holes for the attachment or passage of work by others shall be provided as required. All burrs shall be removed. Manual flame cutting shall be done with a mechanically guided torch. D. Welding for structural steel shall be performed by qualified operators and shall be in accordance with Structural Welding Code of the American Welding Society, latest edition, and with the AISC Specifications heretofore mentioned. E. All welding shall be subject to visual inspection. All fillet welds may be subject to nondestructive testing when the appearance is suspect. Repairs of welds shall be performed in accordance with American Welding Society Section ERECTION A. All work shall be erected plumb, square and true to lines and levels in strict accordance with the structural requirements of the building. B. All machinery, apparatus and staging required for the erection of steel work in a through safe and efficient manner shall be provided by the Contractor. They shall install, maintain and remove without injury to the other work such scaffolding, temporary bracing, etc. as may be necessary or required. All temporary bracing, scaffolding, etc. shall be designed by a professional engineer, hired by the Contractor and licensed in the state of jurisdiction CONNECTIONS A. 4 3.04 PAINTING A. All structural steel shall receive the following treatment except members which are encased in concrete, contact surfaces for bolted joints and finished bearing surface. 1. Exterior Above Grade or Interior Process Area Grade Steel Heavy Duty Exposure. a. Surface Preparation: SSPC-SP6 Commercial Blast. b. Primer: Tnemec-Zinc at 2.5 to 4.0 mils DFT. c. Intermediate: 27 Typoxy at 4-6 mils DFT in a color similar to the finish. d. Finish: 73 Endura-Shiled at 2-3 mils DFT in an approved color. 2. Interior Exposed Overhead Steel (Non-Process Areas). a. Surface Preparation: SSPC-SP2 hand tool cleaning and SSPC-SP3 Power Tool cleaning. b. Primer: at 2-3 mils DFT. c. Finish: 1 coat by spray, 16 Uni-Bond at 2-4 mils DFT. B. Field Touch-up 1. After erection, areas damaged, abraded, showing rust, bolt heads, connections and other bare areas shall be thoroughly cleaned to the standard of shop cleaning and then thoroughly brushed with a coat of Tnemec INSPECTION A. Inspection and Corrections 1. The Engineer of Record will inspect compliance with the provisions of the Specifications and Drawings during various phases of construction. 2. Should additional visits be required which are necessitated by the failure of the Contractor to perform his work in accordance with the Plans and Specifications or for additional design or drafting time is required for corrective measures caused by the failure to perform in accordance with Plans and Specifications the Contractor shall reimburse the Engineer of Record at the rate of 2.50 times direct personnel expense plus out of pocket traveling expenses incurred. 5 B. INSPECTION AND TESTING 1. The owner shall retain the services of a Professional Engineer approved by the Engineer of Record to perform the following inspection services: a. Shop Inspection i. Visual examination of all fillet welding. ii. Examination of all fabricated pieces for proper cleaning prior to shop painting. iii. Examination of all shop painting. iv. Examination of loading of steel to prevent damage during shipping. b. Field Inspection i. Examination of all pieces of steel for straightness and alignment. ii. Examination of all field welding. iii. Examination of touch-up painting. 2. The Engineer shall indicate to the Contractor where remedial work must be performed. 3. The Contractor s Engineer shall prepare daily reports and submit them in triplicate at weekly intervals to the Engineer. 4. When all work has been approved by the Contractor s Engineer, the Contractor s Engineer shall certify that the installation is in accordance with e the design and specification requirements (including applicable codes). 5. Any materials not in accordance with these Specifications shall, at the request of the Engineer, be removed from the site by the Contractor and be replaced as specified WARRANTY A. Guarantee all Work of this Section for one (1) year in accordance with the General Conditions, Special Conditions and Agreement. END OF SECTION HERITAGE GARDENS STP
