Xypex Chemical Corporation Founded 1969 in Vancouver, British Columbia Concrete Waterproofing & Protection by Crystallization Present in over 80 countries worldwide Worldwide manufacturing base in 12 locations 3
The Nature of Concrete 4
Composed of a mixture of rock, sand, cement and water. To be workable, more water than needed for cement hydration is used. Excess water bleeds out and leaves a network of capillaries and pores. As it dries, concrete shrinks and changes volume and causes micro and macro cracks. 5
6
5000x magnification The nature of concrete can be determined by petrographic examination. 7
Caused by structural, thermal, drying and plastic shrinkage 8
Xypex Crystalline Technology 9
A method of waterproofing concrete through a crystallization process. Concrete is like a hard sponge; full of capillaries and air voids. It works by reacting with the leftover products of hydration 10 The reaction results in a crystalline formation within the concrete; the crystalline matrix is so tight that he prevents a water molecule from passing through the concrete.

13 PRECAST CONCRETE
Becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix cannot be worn, torn away of punctures Crystals become a permanent part of the concrete; as such it is a maintenance free system. Heals static cracks in concrete up to 0.4 mm. Does not seal moving cracks. Waterproofs the concrete against high hydrostatic pressure from both the positive and negative side (175 psi/405 ft head pressure) 14
Highly resistant to chemicals where the ph range is from in constant contact and in periodic contact. Protects reinforcing steel Increased compressive strength Reduced shrinkage cracks 15

Xypex Products Coating Admix Dry-Shake 2 0
Xypex Crystalline Technology is available as an additive to fresh concrete Xypex Admix is added to the mix at time of batching. The Admix is formulated to ensure there is the equivalent potency to other Xypex crystalline products. 2 1
Ensures uniform distribution throughout the concrete and structure Makes concrete waterproof, reduces shrinkage cracking and increases compressive strength Same crystalline structure as the coating
Cost - In most cases, the admix is most economical method of installing Xypex Scheduling no subcontractor, no impact on scheduling. Safety no subcontractor equals less overall exposure to occupation risk Quality eliminates variables associated with field application
Any concrete structure where the intent is to either keep water/liquids in or out. Concrete protection in the rand of 3-11 constant contact, 2-12 periodic contact. Waterproofing of below grade concrete structures.
Xypex is tinted for easy detection and identification Xypex has been used locally in precast manholes since 1999
Xypex Admix was used in 1999 Manholes inspected in August 2010 Found to be in excellent condition
Xypex waterproofing becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix and provides permanent waterproofing & protection Xypex Admix is very cost effective method of protecting and waterproofing concrete. It can be used for waterproofing and projecting a wide range of concrete structures including manholes and other mild wastewater structures.
