6th Working Group Meeting What should be the topic addressed for the 6th Working Group Meeting? Two options were submitted to the Steering Committee in May Community-based MRV Systems in the Guiana Shield Monitor and Address Slash and Burn Agriculture in the Guiana Shield Based on the interests expressed and on the contacts we made with potential partners in the region, we saw a good opportunity to create synergies with another event on CMRV organized in Guyana by WWF Guianas and the Global Canopy Program.
Creating synergies in the region Objectives of WGM6 Initiate discussions and experience sharing on CMRV within the region, by giving to participants a theoretical basis on the subject (i.e. a brief review of the existing literature, main principles of CMRV, etc.); Provide an overview of the CMRV projects that are being implemented in the Guiana Shield region and worldwide, and analyze them in the perspective of learning lessons; Objectives of GCP-WWF workshop Share lessons learnt from Guyana s experience with CMRV and materials that were developed (NRDBB project) with new Guyana government, communities and NGOs; Discuss opportunities and barriers for integrating CMRV and NMRV systems; Explore and present possibilities that can support the inclusion of CMRV in national MRV systems, using new technologies (i.e. participative mapping, joint monitoring of the forest cover, etc) Create dialogue and consensus around Amerindian REDD+ Opt-in Mechanism and CMRV component Regional event, to be organized in July-August National event with participants from neighboring countries, to be organized in August
Creating synergies in the region WHO? WHAT? Similar targeted audience : forestry services, governmental agencies, people involved with communities and/or representatives of communities, etc. WHERE? Same topic : Community-based MRV systems WHEN? Same region : Guiana Shield WHAT FOR? Same period : August, 2015 Coherent and complementary objectives Why not creating a joint event?
Agenda and next steps Agenda proposal Joint sessions Theoretical principles and approaches of Community-based MRV system Case studies The use of technology to support CMRV REDD+ for the Guiana Shield sessions Is the theory of CMRV applicable to the reality of Guiana Shield territories? Technical training focus Discussions and roundtables Next steps 1) Finalize the agenda and continue the discussions on the content 2) Send detailed Terms of Reference to the Steering Committe members for formal approval 3) Start with the implementation of the event 4) Working Group Meeting 6 ( Aug, Guyana)
Discussion In your territory does C-MRV have already been implemented? What is your interest on C-MRV? What is your level of advancement in terms of C-MRV implementation? Who is in charge of developing such scheme? What would be your expectations from a C-MRV Working Group Meeting? Do you see opportunities of regional collaboration on C- MRV in the Guiana Shield?
