All drive lines are in-line and provide efficient transfer of power. Drive sprocket size is determined by tire size and the driven sprocket size is determined by the machine s row spacing. This catch bag makes it easy to collect a seed or fertilizer sample for calibration purposes. It fits snugly around the bottom of the manifold chamber, so you ll catch every seed. The bag stores conveniently in a durable storage container mounted securely on the frame. Open-lid indicators let you know with a glance whether tank lids are tightly closed. A colorcoded gauge for each tank provides a guideline for go/no-go metering. This hydraulic motor drives the big 17.6-inchdiameter fan. The fan moves up to 500 lb./ac. by using a high volume of air at slower speeds, minimizing seed damage. Simply depress the switch and an electric valve diverts hydraulic flow to the motor to spin all the meters simultaneously. Includes multiple calibration catch bags. The conveyor system on the 1910 makes cracked and shattered seed a thing of the past. Compared to an auger, seed damage can drop anywhere from 2.8 to.02 percent. The 12-inch-wide belt cuts fill time literally in half when compared with an 8-inch auger. Risers are placed every six inches to better carry seed. Time-savings can be realized in other ways, too, particularly when it comes to clean-out as the conveyor system is much easier to clean than a system using brush augers. One more thing: these conveyors can carry fertilizer too. Optional front duals on tow-behind models improve in-field stability and flotation. Flotation on the front axle is boosted by at least 50 percent with these 16.5L x 16.1 I3 bar tires. Optional fill lights make filling at night an easy task. Two 35- watt halogen lamps provide ample light for filling, calibrating meters, or checking tanks after the sun has set. A telescoping spout on the conveyor and 8-inch auger let you fill tanks right to the top for maximum productivity. You also can adjust the spout to match each tank s height.

Let the 1910 Commodity Air Cart help you get the most from every dime you pay for inputs. Thanks to its unique metering system, the 1910 provides unmatched row-to-row accuracy. This can save you thousands in input costs. And along with accuracy, the 1910 offers exceptional capacity. Choose from tow-between or tow-behind configurations, 195 to 430 bushel capacities, and two or three tanks. Convenience is well thought out, too. All adjustments are made without tools from the left side of the cart. You can even change meters when tanks are full. Gears and an in-line drive shaft eliminate many of the chain drives found on other carts. There are just three drive chains, and the transmission clutches run in oil. All this contributes to greater reliability and easier maintenance. 1. A convenient staircase takes you up to a stable platform. From there you ll find 26.5-inch-diameter tank openings at arm s reach, giving you access to each internal ladder. And lids are just 5 feet apart from center to center, making it easy to reposition the auger or conveyor from the platform. 2. Fill tanks in 15 minutes with the 7-inchdiameter auger. The 20-percent-faster 8-inchdiameter auger features controls on both the top and bottom. Or, choose the conveyor system for maximum filling efficiency. 3. This simple, accurate volumetric metering system delivers unprecedented results. Simply choose the colorcoded cartridge that meets your needs: 1) applies rates from to 265 lb./acre. It s ideal for high rates of fertilizer or large seed. 2) applies 30 to 220 lb./acre; 3) applies 20 to 130 lb./acre; 4) applies 2 to 20 lb./acre. Then, use exclusive fine-tuning rings to tailor the meter cartridges to match the number of openers on the seeding tool. 4. A manual half-width disconnect is incorporated right into the meter housing. This lets you stop the flow of seed/fertilizer to half of the meter when seeding point rows, for example. It also allows you to remove the meter cartridge tanks are full. 5. Efficient straight-through airflow lets you single- or double-shoot with only one fan. The large 17.6-inch-diameter fan provides enough air volume to reach 500 lb./acre. This high-volume airflow at lower speeds minimizes seed damage for better germination rates. 6. Primary manifolds with 2.5-inch-diameter tubes distribute seed and fertilizer evenly to the secondary hoses on the seeding tool. Stationary single-shoot or stationary double-shoot primary manifolds are available. Amber lights serve two purposes. When the SeedStar system is set on Set Fan Speed, both lights turn on if the fan speed is within 5 percent of the target. If only the top or bottom light comes on, you re either too high or too low. When filling, alternate flashes indicate the tank is full A trouble-free drive system features in-line drives and infinitely variable gearboxes. Change rates with the simple crank adjustment, or from the cab using optional variable-rate drive. The left rear wheel serves as the 1910 s drive wheel. 8. Get the tire that matches your operation. Choose turf tires for varying soil and residue conditions, and minimal seedbed disturbance. For improved flotation, choose cane and rice tires (towbehind cart only) or 710 metric tires. Other options: dual rear tires, or large 42- or 46-inch single tires. On the tow-behind cart, select dual front tires for increased flotation Filling is a one-person job whether you re using bulk seed bags or filling from a wagon or truck. Auger or conveyor options are easy to maneuver, thanks to a hinged mounting. When seeding is complete, slide the auger or conveyer underneath the 1910 for fast unloading. 10. The tanks on the 1910 offer several advantages over other carts. First, textured polyethylene tanks resist scarring and won t rust. Second, because tanks are translucent, you can readily see the level of product in each tank. And third, the geometric shape of the tanks keeps product flowing downward for more complete clean-out. Opt for the single-shoot system for applying starter fertilizer with the seed. Go with the double-shoot air system (shown here) for applying higher levels of fertilizer. It allows simultaneous application of seed and fertilizer by placing them in two different locations in the seed row. The sliding handle on this double-shoot primary manifold lets you switch from single- to double-shoot in a matter of seconds. Product and Air Bottom Run Active Tow-behind Cart Top Run Active With the double-shoot distribution package, one primary manifold is set for delivering high-volume material or large-diameter crops into the top tubes. The second manifold is set for flowing small-diameter crops or lowvolume material to the bottom tubes. The result is uniform emergence across the field and, ultimately, higher yields. Applying fertilizer while seeding? The 1870 utilizes two independent hydraulic accumulators which allow the seed and fertilizer openers to be set individually of each other. This design reduces heat build-up in the hydraulic oil; this eliminates the need for oil flow from the tractor, while assuring uncompromised depth control and consistent seed and fertilizer spacing. Designed to provide precise seed and fertilizer placement with low soil disturbance, it utilizes two independent hydraulic accumulators that allow press-wheel (1) and fertilizer-shank (2) down pressure to be set individually of each other. Operating depth of the seed boot (3) is set using a positive locking clamp system. Seedboot trip force is set with a shock-absorbing assembly, and downforce is maintained by the press wheel. This design reduces heat build-up in the hydraulic oil, while assuring uncompromised and unrivaled depth control with consistent seed and fertilizer spacing. You can even feather the press-wheel down pressure on the go to match changing field conditions. The hydraulic system uses nitrogen-charged accumulators to control the fertilizer-shank trip force and individual press-wheel packing pressure. This system operates independently of the tractor so continuous oil flow is not required, and tractor-horsepower requirements are reduced. 1 The Conserva Pak s compact rigid design does not deflect in turns so there s no need to worry about potential seed and fertilizer separation while turning left, or placement of seed directly over fertilizer while turning right. The wide dual-arm truss system provides lateral strength for the opener, keeping unnecessary stress off the frame. The V-shape press wheel has 3.5 inches of girth, which gives more definition to the 3-inch furrow and ensures 100-percent seed-to-soil contact. This helps protect the seed from strong winds and heavy rains. A mud scraper is standard on every press wheel. Two independent hydraulic accumulator force systems allow seed and fertilizer opener trip forces to be set separately. Fertilizer-shank trip force is set by adjusting the pressure on the large accumulator. The smaller accumulator controls downforce for press wheels and seed openers. Trip force for the seed opener is set by adjusting a spring shock attached to the seed openers. The use of independent hydraulic accumulator technology, combined with separate press-wheel downforce, allows the individual press wheels to gauge seed depth. Front castering wheels help stabilize the wing frames and allow the implement to float over uneven ground.

6 10 NEW 1870 Air-Hoe Drill 1870 Specifications 11 Refined depth control for uniform emergence When seeding small grains and oil seeds, consistent seed and fertilizer depth are critical for even emergence. The John Deere Conserva Pak opener provides excellent depth control in paired-row and singlerow settings. Hydraulics keep the openers engaged, even in rocky and undulating field conditions. And since the press wheel is on a separate hydraulically charged accumulator, it will immediately bring the seedboot back into place after being tripped. This leads to less frame abuse and reduced horsepower requirements. What value is this to you? You can achieve accurate and consistent seed placement with less horsepower, less soil disturbance, and more moisture retention all for a quicker, more even emergence, plus the opportunity for bigger yields at harvest. Feed the crop, not the weeds. Easily place fertilizer in dry, liquid or gas forms from 2 to 6 inches deep. Independent opener downforce can be set from 100 to 800 pounds with a trip clearance of 12 inches. The standard dry knife (shown) features carbide tiles on the face for longer wear life; it works with the dry tip and dry tubes. Also available: dry hi-top knives for very abrasive soils, as well as a variety of knives, tips, and tubes made for use with specfic forms of fertilizer. 1. Seedling safety and stand establishment. The 1870 has independently controlled hydraulic-shank openers that place fertilizer up to four inches away from seed. This positive separation eliminates seedling damage caused by some fertilizer forms. In fact, Canadian researchers have observed stand reductions of 5 percent in wheat and 26 percent in canola (Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute research update 738) when nitrogen was placed too close to the seed. 2. Fertilizer retention. With the 1870, one opener combines four key processes to place nutrients precisely at seeding. This helps minimize nutrient losses from gas escape, volatilization, or leaching. You get (1) simple, adjustable hydraulic accumulator force, (2) fertilizer placement down to six inches deep, (3) low soil and residue disturbance, and (4) a positive closing system. 3. Reduce nitrogen costs and seed more acres. The 1870 helps reduce fertilizer costs by applying nitrogen at seeding with minimal soil disturbance and nutrient losses. USDA research suggests spring-wheat producers who apply nitrogen at seeding typically cut application rates by 15 percent when compared with pre-seeding applications. With lower-cost, concentrated anhydrous ammonia (NH 3 ), there s about a 10-percent savings. Plus, using a 1,750-gallon ammonia wagon can increase seeding productivity by 10 percent an important gain, as yields can be cut by 1 percent per day when seeding after mid-may. 4. Conserve topsoil and build soil organic matter. University and government studies have shown that direct seeding with the Conserva Pak opener helps reduce erosion, builds soil organic matter, helps improve yield, and reduces fertilizer needs. 5. Increased water-usage efficiency. Direct seeding helps retain stubble and surface residue for improved moisture storage. The V-groove press wheel creates a furrow near the seed for water to collect, providing moisture to crops, not weeds. The Benefits of Using the Seed-depth consistency. In North America and Australia, studies show inaccurate seed depth placement can reduce yields from 5 to 25 percent. The 1870 has separate downforce control for the fertilizer shank and press wheel/seed opener. The Conserva Pak opener provides both consistent depth and a consistent amount of soil placed over the seed. 7. Residue flow. Direct-seeding systems and higher yields mean more residue. Oregon studies indicate that heavy residue clumps decrease wheat stands by 30 percent and yields by 7 percent. The 1870 has 22.5 inches of under-rank clearance and 36 inches between openers for excellent residue flow. The unique design of the hydraulic shank allows plenty of vertical clearance. The single and paired-row seed opener are both in line with the fertilizer shank and assist in clearing residue. 8. Soil nitrogen and carbon sequestration. The cost of nitrogen fertilizer is increasing, while the level of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), in the atmosphere is rising. University studies show that no-till fields seeded with the Conserva Pak system have substantially increased soil organic matter and sequestered CO 2. This increases the nitrogen available in the soil and reduces the amount of CO 2 in the atmosphere. 9. Seedbed utilization. Twelve-inch-spaced openers with a paired-row seedboot yield as much as narrower rows. Seedbed utilization increases 25 to 30% with two rows at 3 inches. 10. Technology integration. 13 24 CCS SeedMetering 25 Central Commodity System: Central to Your Productivity Big yellow seed tanks, sitting atop an air seeder. Maybe you ve seen something like this in a field and wondered what kind of tool you were looking at. You caught a glimpse of a 1990CCS the Central Commodity System (CCS) SeedMetering. CCS SeedMetering uses large bulk-fill tanks to provide extra seed-carrying capacity. Smaller models of the 1990CCS feature a single 70-bushel tank. The wider models of the tools carry one 100-bushel seed tank. The CCS features a fieldproven metering approach that s accurate, exceedingly simple and highly efficient. The information and illustrations at right give you a bird s-eye view of how the system works. Your John Deere dealer can give you more information. The CCS SeedMetering is unique to the new 1990CCS. Here s how the system functions: A meter manifold mounted underneath the seed tank(s) accurately meters seed into a seed cup, where a venturi pulls the seed into an air stream and delivers it to an opener. For durability, CCS tanks are made of the same translucent plastic used on the 1910 Commodity Air Cart. Their specially designed shape ensures good clean-out, as there s no place for seed to lodge. A hydraulically driven fan creates the airflow that moves seed from the central hoppers to the openers. The airflow is divided evenly for each row by a plenum. Airflow enters the plenum and is distributed to individual venturis. Air is funneled into the venturi through a narrow opening. This creates lower pressure inside the venturi than in the seed inlet. This pressure differential pulls air and accompanying seed through the seed inlet into the venturi. Once seed is inside the venturi, the airstream carries it to the opener. How do you know when tanks need to be refilled? This adjustable bin-level sensor sends you a warning inside the tractor cab. Getting to the bulk-fill tanks is easy. Just climb the sturdy steel ladder to the platform. Tank lids are set at waist height, so they re readily accessible. A 14-foot auger is recommended for use when filling. The meter drive system on dual rank 1990CCS models features an optional, factory-installed dual-range sprocket for additional crop flexibility and higher metering rates. This single drive tire runs the metering system. The tire engages when you lower the rockshaft. A 17.6-inch diameter hydraulically driven fan provides more air flow at lower fan speeds than earlier CCS air seeders. Dual-rank 1990CCS models use a larger 1.25-inch diameter flow splitter with optional shut-off gates to evenly divide seed flow between the front and rear ranks. Setting the seeding rate involves just one adjustment, which can be made manually to the transmission or remotely from inside the tractor. Rates are infinitely variable within the selected seeding range.

But what if there were a way to reduce your seed costs, possibly by as much as 10 percent? Or almost completely eliminate maintenance charges? Even gain more time to seed? With a Central Commodity System SeedMetering tool, you really can do all these things. Exceptional population rate control results in lower amounts of population variance from meter to meter Better metering performance. The CCS delivers better population control than a box drill or an air seeder, despite the fact that all three are volumetric systems. Here s why: Box drills adjust the seeding rate by sliding the shutoff, which changes the amount of flute exposed to seed. The ability to control this opening at each feedcup across the entire machine is limited, which reduces the ability to carefully control populations. Air seeders also use a volumetric meter on the commodity cart. Unlike a drill, the length and width of flutes exposed to seed are always constant. Instead, rate changes are achieved by turning the meter wheel faster. Accuracy at this point is good; it s not until seed is distributed to the manifolds that population accuracy starts to diminish. The CCS always exposes the same length and width of the meter wheel to the seed, so you get better population control than a drill. However, because there is no secondary air tower on CCS tools, population remains consistent as seed is metered into hoses that deliver product right to the openers. Better monitor performance. Improved population control deserves a monitoring system that works equally well. That s why we developed the SeedStar system. The system uses four sensors or optional all-run sensing on the tool to ensure accurate monitoring. An included original GreenStar display allows the operator to monitor population rates, average population, population at-a-glace, acre counters, and tractor speed. Another advantage of the SeedStar system: it s compatible with AMS applications such as Field Doc and parallel tracking. It also works with GreenStar 2 Pro applications, but dual displays are recommended. Dual-rank 1990CCS machines can instead be equipped with the SM500 monitoring system. The SM500 comes with four counting sensors and an easy-to-read in-cab monitor. This system is also compatible with the optional all-opener seed blockage warning system. When paired, both seed flow and population information will be displayed on the SM500 console. Increased productivity. If you ve been using a drill to seed soybeans, the CCS will offer you some real time savings in terms of filling and clean-out. With the central tanks, a hydraulic 6-inch brush auger can fill one 100-bushel tank from start to finish in 5 minutes. And that s with just one person doing everything. Clean-out is just as fast only 15 minutes! Open the clean-out door on the tanks to allow seed to empy. Once most seed is gone, remove the front meter door to finish the job. Reduced maintenance. No daily maintenance. Those are powerful words. But with the CCS, that pretty much sums up the situation. The meter feed wheels, venturis, meter cups, agitator, delivery fan, and delivery hoses have no daily maintenance requirements and aren t high-wear parts. Better yet, you can skip the frustration and expense of rebuilding meters yearly like with some planters. Utimately, there s less cost involved, not to mention less time required. Three meter-roller choices are available. The narrow black roller works with lowapplication rate crops; the medium black roller is suited for application rates up to 80 pounds per acre; the white roller is for larger seeds and high application rates. The SM500 Monitor lets you monitor both seed flow and population rates from a single, easy-to-use console, eliminating the need to purchase additional monitors. It features four highly accurate opticaltype counting sensors located after the seed-metering wheels. The SM500 also provides an hour counter, ground speed, area, as well as minimum, maximum, and average population. Compatible with the optional all-opener seed blockage warning system.
