2 Objectives of AFSEC To harmonize the existing standards, the adoption of international standards, or if necessary, adapted to African conditions; To identify, and if necessary, adopt standards developed by the members of AFSEC; To make recommendations on harmonized standards for implementation purposes by the competent organs of the African Union.

3 The primary Mission to improve the well being of African populations; mainly by improving access to electricity, to promote international cooperation on all questions of standardization and conformity assessment, to facilitate trade on the African continent by removing various technical barriers, opening new markets and promoting economic integration and economic growth. More generally, the actions carried out by AFSEC on the African continent will create opportunities for the African economy.

4 Presentation of the African continent's opportunities In effect, with over 600 million people without access to electricity: Africa is rich in energy resources which are not yet exploited. The economic growth in Africa in recent years recorded a growth rate between 4.5 and 5% per year. Africa will experience strong population growth by Rural populations continue to migrate to the cities. The middle class becomes increasingly important.

5 Presentation of the African continent's opportunities The agricultural world is modernizing. The business climate and the macroeconomic environment will significantly improve. The regulatory and legislative framework is increasing every day with the accent on strengthening governance, rule of law, of human rights and respect for the environment.

6 Climatic Situation of Africa At the summit on sustainable development September 25, 2015, UN member states adopted a new sustainable development program that includes 17 goals to tackle climate change by 2030, including that relating to clean energy and affordable (No. 7). The latter aims to carry out actions to guarantee access for all to reliable, sustainable, modern and affordable energy. We must act and act in collaboration

7 Evolution of Quality infrastructure Today, the African national electrotechnical committees are being set up. 8 Evolution of Quality infrastructure We have important work to do so that all African countries are becoming very active in terms of standardization and conformity assessment. Standardization in the areas of rural electrification and distributed energy resources are equally important and essential. We must bear in mind that "standardization precedes the development. No standardization, no development.

9 Access to electricity and alternative energy development The African citizen is connected to the world through information technology and especially via the internet.. The continent's economic infrastructure is developing through the interconnection of roads, rail and electricity networks.

10 Access to electricity and alternative energy development The objective of the African States is to ensure the balance of supply and demand for electricity by facilitating access to good electricity market in the medium term. Access to conventional energy, all growth factor, is a major challenge for Africa.

11 Access to electricity and alternative energy development The efforts of States to step up in order to: Promote the hydro electric energy potential, including micro hydro; Promote geothermal, combined cycles; Promote the transformation of waste into energy Improve or strengthen the transmission grid and distribution of energy to enable lowest cost energy supply, of good quality and sufficient quantity. Promote the safety of installations and equipment and limit the environmental impact. Promote energy conservation by working on energy efficiency in the private sector and the state.

12 Access to electricity and alternative energy development Furthermore, if Africa is to support sustainable power generation, it is essential to promote renewable energy by increasing their share in the energy mix together with conventional energy resources. Of all the alternative energy sources that exist in Africa, hydropower seems to be have great potential. As such, the development of INGA in DRC is an opportunity to provide low cost energy.

14 Access to electricity and alternative energy development Solar and wind energy resources are still underutilized. While it is true that the use of most solar systems do not require significant costs outside of the few maintenance costs, the fact remains that the initial investment is still very high compared to traditional solutions. It is therefore appropriate to follow the evolution of the different technologies remembering storage (battery).
