It is ideal for locations where discharge is to sub-surface irrigation, or to a suitable watercourse where approved by the Regulator, and where a septic tank will not meet the required standards. Central to the operation of each Kingspan Klargester BioDisc is the Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC), which supports a biologically active film or biomass on to which aerobic micro-organisms, naturally found in sewage, become established. 9 REED BEDS Natural Filtration Process A reed bed is a filtration process used in conjunction with a Kingspan Klargester sewage treatment system to further enhance the quality of the effluent migrating into a drainage field or surrounding watercourse. Tertiary treatment for new applications with tight discharge consents. Satisfies new building regulations. Improved effluent quality for existing works. Very low maintenance. 10 SEPTIC TANKS For the Collection & Settlement of Domestic Sewage A septic tank provides a traditional solution to sewage disposal needs for domestic dwellings without access to mains drainage. Basic septic tanks only retain solids and discharge effluent of low quality. Many authorities in the UK prohibit their use. In all instances a sewage treatment system should be considered as the first option. Septic tanks may be installed, subject to consent, in applications where: Soil is of suitable porosity. Installation complies with Building Regulations (Approved Document H). The installation will not contaminate any ditch, stream or other watercourse. ALPHA SEPTIC TANK Kingspan Klargester Alpha tanks provide a reliable and economic solution for homes not connected to mains drainage. The Alpha septic tank comes in three sizes and is suitable for individual domestic dwellings up to a large family house. Made from composite GRP - strong, light, chemically resistant and watertight. Press moulded shape provides wide, squat, form which makes the tank easy to install and handle. Stable base for storage. Shackles are provided to aid lifting and positioning within the excavation. The plants employ a plug flow combination of aerobic and anoxic processes in a fluidised bed arrangement. This operates in conjunction with an advanced system of air diffusers and selected media to deliver optimum levels of purification. TREATMENT PROCESS 1. 18 SEPARATORS A range of Fuel/Oil Separators for all applications/projects Surface water drains normally discharge to a watercourse or indirectly into underground waters (groundwater) via a soakaway. Contamination of surface water by oil, chemicals or suspended solids can cause these discharges to have a serious impact on the receiving water. Where run-off is draining from relatively low risk areas such as car-parks and non-operational areas, a source control approach, such as permeable surfaces or infiltration trenches, may offer a suitable means of treatment, removing the need for a separator. Oil separators are installed on surface water drainage systems to protect receiving waters from pollution by oil, which may be present due to minor leaks from vehicles and plant, from accidental spillage. Effluent from industrial processes and vehicle washing should normally be discharged to the foul sewer (subject to the approval of the sewerage undertaker) for further treatment at a municipal treatment works. The installation will not contaminate any ditch, stream or other watercourse. FULL RETENTION SEPARATORS Full retention separators treat the full flow that can be delivered by the drainage system, which is normally equivalent to the flow generated by a rainfall intensity of 65mm/hr. 19 BYPASS SEPARATORS Bypass separators fully treat all flows generated by rainfall rates of up to 6.5mm/hr. This covers over 99% of all rainfall events. Flows above this rate are allowed to bypass the separator. These separators are used when it is considered an acceptable risk not to provide full treatment for high flows, for example where the risk of a large spillage and heavy rainfall occurring at the same time is small. FORECOURT SEPARATORS Forecourt separators are full retention separators specified to retain on site the maximum spillage likely to occur on a petrol filling station. They are required for both safety and environmental reasons and will treat spillages occurring during vehicle refuelling and road tanker delivery. The size of the separator is increased in order to retain the possible loss of the contents of one compartment of a road tanker, which may be up to 7,600 litres. 21 GREASE SEPARATORS For The Removal of Fats and Grease from Wastewater Kingspan Klargester Grease Separators: an effective and hygienic method of separating fat and grease from wastewater flow. Grease separators are designed for restaurants, hotels, public houses, canteens. Grease separators allow fats and grease to naturally separate out from water, allowing their removal prior to the wastewater reaching the drainage system. Separator should be installed close to the source of contamination before any foul waste can enter the drainage flow and to suit the expected liquid temperature. 24 RAINWATER HARVESTING & WATER STORAGE DOMESTIC ENVIREAU RAINWATER HARVESTING Fully Integrated Rainwater Harvesting Systems for homes The Domestic Envireau Rainwater Harvesting system has been designed as a low cost installation for self-build projects and residential developments. Envireau works by taking the rain from your roof gutters, fitering out leaves and debris and storing the water in an underground tank. This is then pumped into the house to be used for non-potable applications such as toilet flushing and washing machines. If the tank runs empty, the system automatically switches to mains supply. Easy to install, simple to maintain, automatic in operation; the Domestic Envireau System has been developed to provide the homeowner with a fi-and-forget system, ensuring an automatic supply of harvested rainwater. ENVIREAU GRAVITY SYSTEM The Envireau Gravity System is ideal for domestic applications which use an elevated header tank to store filtered water after the main tank. It has a major advantage in that in the event of a power failure on site (or the rain stocks running dry) the system will automatically switch to mains water supply to ensure a continuity of service. The water from the header tank will flow by gravity to the serviced appliances. The system will always draw from the rainwater supply first. THE ENVIREAU SYSTEM HAS TWO PRIMARY OPTIONS: 1. 25 ENVIREAU DIRECT SYSTEM The Envireau Direct System is used where it is impractical to have a header tank for example in homes that have converted attic spaces and no room for a header tank. Therefore the filtered rainwater is pumped direct from the holding tank to the various appliances. The main advantage of this system is that rainwater is delivered to the appliances at mains pressure or higher. 26 RAINWATER HARVESTING & WATER STORAGE RAINTRAP Below Ground Rainwater Storage & Delivery System The RainTrap system comprises of a filter, an underground storage tank and a pump. Rainwater runs down the roof and into the guttering and downpipes in the normal way before passing through the filter, which removes any leaves or debris. Rainwater is stored in the underground tank from which it is pumped at a constant pressure to a garden sprinkler or hose as required. The RainTrap has many advantages over traditional garden waterbutts. In addition to being able to store far larger quantities of water, it removes the need to carry water around and does not flood when full, since the excess water exits via a soakaway or surface water drain.
