11 DOE Investment Fund Announcement On March 22, the DOE announced $452 million in poten?al investment funds to support design and commercializa?on of American- made small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) Ini?a?ve for United States to become the world leader in design, development and manufacturing of SMR technology Investment funds may be awarded for up to two SMR technology vendors and u?lity alliances 50/50 cost sharing for design cer?fica?on and obtaining a Combined Construc?on and Opera?ng License (COL) from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Requires applicants to include a plan with a plant in- service date in 2022?meframe Expected DOE decision Late Summer/Early Fall of 2012

15 SMR Program Goals & Objectives The SMR Program encourages U.S. industry to compete in the global marketplace by removing various barriers to reactor deployment and to accelerate development because DOE anticipates that NRC design certification will result in a competitive advantage over designs being developed in other countries.
