2 S O L U T I O N S F O R L I F E Introduction Al Gore, man of a mission Former vice president of USA. Made the people aware of environmental problems on a global scale. Established in 1986, Atlantis is the leading international provider of stormwater management solutions. With offices and partners around the world we integrate consulting and the supply of innovative, ecological, sustainable technologies to develop holistic environmental solutions for urban stormwater management. Mission Atlantis s objective is to create sustainable environmental solutions turning major environmental problems into rejuvenated assets that enhance water and air quality in a practical way. Our Approach The Atlantis approach is modern, holistic and creative resulting in a more natural and environmentally, sustainable design. Environmental Compliance The Atlantis system complies with the toughest environmental regulations even in the most difficult and sensitive locations, thereby avoiding unnecessary delayed costly legal cases. Strategic Alliances Our strategies include partnering with customers to develop the specific customized solutions, anticipating and meeting their development needs while, at the same time, repairing or protecting the environment in a manner which makes economic sense for all parties involved in urban development. Atlantis incorporates a long tradition of mature environmental considerations when analyzing development design. Our multi-skilled team of environmental engineers, landscape architects and biologists work together to solve customers' problems in an ethical and holistic way. Humberto Urriola M., inventor of the environmentally friendly Atlantis system.

3 Global Warming Climate Change & Water Mismanagement S O L U T I O N S F O R L I F E Atlantis has the Solutions Cities are becoming more impermeable and experiencing three dimension desertification. We are draining the water and the life away from the cities which are becoming hot during the day and cold during the night. Impermeability contributes to water contamination, flooding and global warming. Atlantis has the Solutions Atlantis Water Management found solutions for many ancient environmental problems, providing a revolutionary vision and practical solution for more than 27 years. A simpler way to make ecological cities. Making cities environmentally sustainable and healthier to live in. At Atlantis we are helping to restore the environment regardless of how big the job is. The enviro-remediation is basically that by changing the impermeable surfaces to permeable ones and allowing the harvested rainwater to be used again. Trees and plants will do their job like nature intended, and by so doing, repairing the ozone layer, reduce global warming and managing water in a sustainable way. Atlantis makes all this possible for a fast recovery of the planet.. Roman technologies owe the environment an apology. -Humberto Urriola -

9 BENEFITS: 1. Capture and manage all stormwater outside 2. Water self sufficient 3. Elimination of city sewer 4. Energy self sufficient 5. Reduce global warming 6. Absorb noxious city gases 7. Recycle all house waste 8. Improve air quality 9. Elimination of city floods Atlantis provides solutions that mimic the water cycle of nature incorporating innovative technologies and systems for current living standards. Atlantis Water Management systems have been developed to provide a method of source management: by providing temporary water storage for recycling by providing a purification unit from roof areas to infiltrate clean stormwater or recycle it back into back into the ground. to eliminate of water run off. 7. The modular nature of Atlantis Stormwater Management systems means that they can be tailored to suit the specific requirements of each site. They can be used to provide temporary storage, attenuation and infiltration capacity for run-off for all sizes and types of site: from individual houses up to the largest commercial developments. The systems comprise: permeable paving, subsoil horizontal blankettype water saving water carriers and storage/infiltration systems 8. Individual polypropylene modules assembled together to form an underground structure are used for stormwater storage or as a soakawaypurification unit. 6.

Reduction in Global warming Beautiful landscape gardens on rooftops, podiums and in city areas reduce the overall heat generated by conventional concrete cities. Reduces Green House Effect and Protects Ozone Layer. The accession of toxic chemicals from car exhausts and industry is significantly reduced through the thermal reduction of the city by rooftop gardens and landscaping. Purifies Air. The increase of vegetation in urban areas provides a sink for Carbon.

12 S O L U T I O N S F O R L I F E Environmental Medium Density Building The environmental medium density building design is a concept by Humberto Urriola, for a Spanish project in the arid Madrid area. The solution on this occasion was to utilize the existing natural ground levels and build the initial development on suspended concrete slabs with the intention of giving the resident a natural environment and at the same time, reduce summer heat and in winter, regulate the temperature. In this case the total surface area is dedicated to gardens, from roofs to podiums. These green areas will immediately give a large number of benefits to the residents and to the city as a whole. Environmentally, 100% of the rainfall will be collected and the excess rainwater stored and recycled on site, eliminating at the same time, all contamination produce by surface run off. Internal roads and car parks would be situated below the concrete slab and the surface dedicated to nature and people. Medium density environmental building over car park

Rainwater is then collected for harvesting or to recharge groundwater.

14 S O L U T I O N S F O R L I F E Soil Stabilisation & Erosion Control Permeable Paving Solutions Turf & Gravel Reinforcement Ideal to house and protect grass Turf Cell reinforcement structure is the only product available that allows both horizontal and vertical root growth. Unlike concrete systems, the roots remain cool and grass growth thrives. Driving vehicles onto the grass has no effect on the protected roots. Aesthetically, the product allows the grass to fill in completely, creating a lush lawn with an invisible reinforcement structure. Gravel Cell reinforcement structure creates an attractive, durable hard surface suitable for light to medium loaded parking areas. Gravel Cell reinforcement structure installed for individual car parking lots. Applications The cells can be used in any situation where low to medium use parking surfaces, access roads and driveways are required. The cells can also be used for the construction of swales to collect rainwater and direct water to surface infiltration areas such as Atlantis sub surface Infiltration channels. Cost Benefits The sub-base required for cells is equal to or less than the sub-base required for concrete or bitumen. Elimination of the traditional stormwater system required by impermeable carpark installations provides an immediate cost saving when installing Turf Cell or Gravel Cell for the same application. Gravel Cell reinforcement structure installed for pathways on a university campus. Benefits Reduces Surface Temperature - Reduces surface temperature around buildings. Permeable Road Reduces Surface Run-off - Water easily filters through structure. - Permeable surfaces reduce stormwater run-off in creeks and rivers, and reduce pollution. - Collected water can be reused and managed as a resource. No Surface Drains Required - Concrete pits, grated trench drains and other traditional stormwater inlets are not necessary. Gravel Cell reinforcement structure installed for an internal road of a housing development. Strong Structure - Turf Cell /Gravel Cell reinforcement structure can support heavy loads for up to 100 t/m 2 unconfined. 18 S O L U T I O N S F O R L I F E Water Sensitive Road Design The Atlantis road system is the first genuine advance in managing surface run-off in more than 2000 years. The Atlantis system can solve the most difficult environmental problems in a simplistic manner. The water is captured, purified, stored and can be made available for re-use. The Atlantis system also provides a strong, permeable structure, that can capture and manage water along the length of the system. The Atlantis road system reduces thermal contamination (from reflected heat) up to 17 0 C in relation to the conventional road methods. In cold areas, permafrost penetration is reduced. 19 Atlantis Ecological Roads Atlantis Road Stormwater Treatment and Purification System Ecological roads and highways One of the most commonly occurring forms of environmental pollution is caused by stormwater run-off. In some cases the expansion of urban development has led to a sealing of up to 90% of the surfaces that trap and accumulate most pollutants which are transported in solution during rain periods and eventually contaminate waterways and oceans. Atlantis has developed permeable systems which capture and treat polluted storm water at the source. Part of the treatment process involves percolation and oxygenation through Atlantis systems.
