Section 07 - Handling and Storage Handling Procedures......Use proper equipment for lifting and transporting all containers. Use sensible industrial hygiene and housekeeping practices. Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid all situations that could lead to harmful exposure. Corrosive to mild steel. Store in rubber lined or 316 stainless steel designed for phosphoric acid. Do not wash out container and use it for other purposes. When diluting, the acid should always be added slowly to water and in small amounts. Never use hot water and never add water to the acid. Water added to acid can cause uncontrolled boiling and splashing. Protect from freezing. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (vapors, liquid), observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.

4 Page 4 of 8 Storage Requirements Storage of this product is influenced by the product supercooling at lower temperatures without crystallizing. Many factors affect supercooling so actual freezing point can be unpredictable. Phosphoric acid 75%: Store in a dry location outdoors with temperatures above -18 o C and away from incompatible products/materials. Store indoors with well-ventilated areas. Keep containers tightly closed, and away from incompatible materials. Store away from sunlight and sources of heat. Phosphoric acid 85%: Indoor storage at temperatures above 20 o C away from incompatible materials/products with containers tightly closed. Outdoor storage tanks for 85% should have heated plate coils on outside of tank or steam coils several inches below bottom of tank. Space below the tank should have air being heated to a controlled 50 o C. Protective Equipment Section 08 - Personal Protection and Exposure Controls Eyes.....Chemical goggles, full-face shield or a full-face respirator is to be worn at all times when product is handled. Contact lenses should not be worn, they may contribute to severe eye injury. Respiratory... If the exposure limit is exceeded, a full facepiece respirator with high efficiency dust/mist filter may be worn up to 50 times the exposure limit or the maximum use concentration specified by the appropriate regulatory agency or respirator supplier, whichever is lowest. For emergencies or instances where the exposure levels are not known, use a full-facepiece positive-pressure, airsupplied respirator. WARNING: Air purifying respirators do not protect workers in oxygen-deficient atmospheres. Gloves...Impervious gloves of chemically resistant material (rubber or PVC) should be worn at all times.
