ISO certification Company carpools: Our fleet operations are working to reduce fossil fuel consumption in a variety of ways, such as using more hybrid and higher mileage vehicles. We added 137 hybrids to the fleet in In the United States, our goal for transportation includes a 10 percent increase in fuel economy from 2004 to 2010 for the fleet. In Germany, we are using alternatives to gasoline to fuel vehicles, optimizing engines, installing energy saving tires and conducting environmentally friendly driver training to reduce fossil fuel use. In Plainsboro, New Jersey, we encourage employees to drive hybrid vehicles by offering drivers prime parking spots. Carpooling has been encouraged in areas with dense populations. Energy conservation: The company is reducing air and land travel with a focus on decreasing the number of meetings to those that are essential, and conducting those via video or teleconference when possible. Land area equivalent to the footprint of Bristol-Myers Squibb operations worldwide, including manufacturing, research and development, distribution and administrative offices, has been offset Vault.com, Inc.

2 with land set aside for conservation in a wide range of habitats, including forests, grassland, marshes, bogs and reefs. Green facilities: Bristol-Myers Squibb sponsored the development of a Greener Hospitals manual, to help encourage green practices at the types of facilities in which our products are used. A new office building in Munich, Germany and a manufacturing complex in Devens, Massachusetts are being constructed incorporating numerous green technologies. Eco-friendly packaging: Our packaging department continues to consider opportunities to minimize packaging, incorporate recycled content and utilize reusable components. Solar energy Waste reduction programs: Many waste materials are routinely collected for recycling. These include paper, cardboard, glass and plastic bottles, printer cartridges, tyvec suits, solvents, batteries, electronics such as computers, and more. Surplus materials such as equipment and furniture are periodically sold or donated for reuse. Emphasizing eco-friendly business practices on company website Supporting endangered species: Many of our facilities worldwide have supported a local endangered or threatened species, in many cases with direct involvement of site employees. Reducing our carbon footprint: In 2000, Bristol-Myers Squibb established a set of Sustainability 2010 Goals (see In support of the Environmental Performance Targets goal, a companywide environmental effects analysis was conducted, followed by targeted initiatives worldwide to reduce energy and water consumption, wastewater, non-hazardous waste, offsite hazardous waste disposal, and air emissions of greenhouse gases, acid gases and priority reduction chemicals. A Green Chemistry program was developed and integrated into the biologics/pharmaceutical product development process. Pharmaceutical products are designed to optimize the dose to produce the intended effect with the minimum amount of active ingredient. The company strives to minimize excess inventory and associated potential for waste. As part of product stewardship, product at risk of becoming outdated while still in distribution channels is returned to Bristol-Myers Squibb for proper handling. Controls are in place to treat air and wastewater emissions as appropriate. Taxol, an anticancer compound, was reformulated to synthesize the active ingredient found in the twigs and leaves of the PacificYew tree. Originally, the tree bark was processed to obtain the active ingredient, which, if done on a large scale, would have killed the trees and put the habitat of the Spotted Owl at risk. Key third party vendors are audited to ensure they have systems in place to operate in compliance with environmental regulations. (See website ISO discussion at systems_certification.aspx) Donations: Environmental donations have included support of The Nature Conservancy s pilot project to map the island of Puerto Rico as a prototype tool to prioritize conservation work in the Caribbean Basin, support of land preservation in varying ecosystems in an amount to offset the square footage of our facilities worldwide, support of an educational environmental publication, and support of greenways for pedestrians and bicyclists in the vicinity of some of our facilities.
