10 Cradle to Cradle: Principles C2C in a Nutshell Products and processes are designed in such a way that materials remain available to humans and their natural environment. Products are designed so that the materials can be completely reused in the technical cycle. Products in the technical cycle must act as a high-quality raw material for new products in the technological domain. Absolutely no harmful waste substances may be released during the manufacturing process. Products are manufactured using sustainable energy sources. Continuous improvement required. 10

12 Cradle to Cradle Certification: Criteria Example: Toxicity Ratings for Chemicals Cradle to Cradle Toxicity Ratings for Chemicals Deep chemistry inventory: the product formulation of each product down to 0.01% must be obtained. Collect formulation information throughout the supply chain. Ban of some substances above 0.1 %. Green Yellow Red Grey Banned Little to no risk associated with this substance. 17 Why Green certification for Glass products? 19 Carbon Footprint at Product level The process of manufacturing flat glass for building applications inevitably has a cost in terms of CO 2 emitted, but the emissions are by far offset due to the savings in use. CO 2 emissions The product of 1 m² of low-e double glazing unit is responsible for the emission of 22 kg CO 2 Based on LCA CO 2 avoided On the other hand, the CO 2 saved by replacing one square metre of single glazing by low-e double glazing represents 91 kg CO 2 per year. The CO 2 emitted during production is thus offset after only 3 10 months use. Based on Carbon Footprint 19
