6 Facts About our Water TOTAL WATER = 70% OF THE EARTH SURFACE DRINKABLE WATER = 0.75% About 70% of the earth s surface is covered with Water 97.5% of earth water is Sea Water/salt water That leaves 2.5% as fresh water 1.75% of fresh water remains in Glaciers, Snow-cover or Frozen elsewhere We are left with approximately 0.75% fresh water for our use (Approximately 10.4 Million, Trillion liters )

16 Background: Water Efficient Products-India (WEP-I) is a Rating System (Star Rating System) for Sustainable Plumbing in India. jointly developed by IAPMO India and IPA. Prior to this, There was NO RATING SYSTEM for water efficient products existed in India.

18 Water Closets Suggested Rating System: EWC with dual flush cistern or flushometer valve rated at not more than 6 liters for full flush and 3 liters for half flush. High-efficiency EWC rated at less than 4.8 liters per full flush. High-efficiency EWC rated at less than 4.0 liters per full flush. * Subject to plumbing fixture/ fitting/ appliance meeting minimum requirement of UIPC I/ National/ International Standard.

19 Urinals Suggested Rating System: Urinal with flushing device rated at less than 3.8 liters per flush. Urinal with flushing device rated at less than 2 liters per flush. Urinal with flushing device rated at less than 1 liter per flush.

20 Shower Heads (Hand-held Showers) Suggested Rating: Shower head with flow-rates not more than 9.5 lpm. Shower head with flow-rates not more than 7.5 lpm. Shower head with flow-rates not more than 5.7 lpm

22 Faucets Suggested Rating (Public use): Metered faucets, with mechanical control, delivering not more than 1 liter per cycle. Metered faucets, with electronic control, delivering not more than 1 liter per cycle. Metered faucets, with electronic or mechanical control, delivering not more than 0.5 liter per cycle.

23 Sink Faucets Suggested Rating: Sink faucets (Taps) and hand held sprays with or without aerators with flow-rates not more than 8 lpm. 25 Dishwashers Suggested Rating: Dish washer using not more than 16 liters of water per full load of wash and rinse cycle. Dish washer using less than 11 liters of water per full load of wash and rinse cycle. Dish washer using less than 6 liters of water per full load of wash and rinse cycle. Definition: Water Factor (Residential Dishwasher): The quantity of water in liters, used per full machine wash and rinse cycle.
