National DSIRE (Database of State Incentive for Renewable & Efficiency) Established in 1995, the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) is an ongoing project of the North Carolina Solar Center and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC). It is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), primarily through the Office of Planning, Budget and Analysis (PBA). The site is administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), which is operated for DOE by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC. Green e e.org/ Green e is the nation's leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions in the retail market. It has two certification and one verification programs: Green e Climate is a voluntary certification program launched in 2007 that sets consumerprotection and environmental integrity standards for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions sold in the voluntary market. Green e Energy is the nation's leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy. Green e Marketplace is a program that allows companies to display the logo when they have purchased a qualifying amount of renewable energy and passed our verification standards. Leave No Trace The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people, worldwide. American Community Gardening Association The American Community Gardening Association (ACGA) is a bi national nonprofit membership organization of professionals, volunteers and supporters of community greening in urban and rural communities. The Association recognizes that community gardening improves people s quality of life by providing a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulating social interaction, encouraging self reliance, beautifying neighborhoods, producing nutritious food, reducing family food budgets, conserving resources and creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education. US Composting Council The US Composting Council is involved in research, training, public education, composting and compost standards, expansion of compost markets and the enlistment of public support. The USCC provides resources, educational materials, training, networking, and career advancement opportunities for professionals and all those affiliated with the composting and organics recycling industry. USCC members include compost producers, marketers, generators of organic residues, policy makers, regulators, equipment manufacturers, product suppliers, academic institutions, public agencies, nonprofit groups and consulting/engineering firms.

Arbor Day Foundation This is the mission statement of the Arbor Day Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit conservation and education organization. Founded in 1972, the centennial of the first Arbor Day observance in the 19th century, the Foundation has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with nearly one million members, supporters, and valued partners. The impact we make on our world is accomplished through our conservation and education programs. North Carolina NC GreenPower NC GreenPower is an independent, nonprofit organization established to improve North Carolina s environment through voluntary contributions toward renewable energy and the mitigation of greenhouse gases. A landmark initiative approved by the N.C. Utilities Commission, NC GreenPower is the first statewide green energy program in the nation supported by all the state s utilities and administered by Advanced Energy, an independent nonprofit corporation located in Raleigh, N.C. NC Solar Center Created in 1988, the North Carolina Solar Center originally focused on solar energy. Over the years, the "Solar Center" has grown and expanded and serves as a clearinghouse for renewable energy programs, information, research, technical assistance, and training for the citizens of North Carolina and beyond. Through its programs and services, the Solar Center seeks to stabilize energy costs for consumers, stimulate local economies, reduce dependence on foreign fuels, and mitigate the environmental impacts associated with fossil fuels. North Carolina Fuel Cell Alliance The N.C. Fuel Cell Alliance (NCFCA) is dedicated to supporting economic development, research, and education efforts centered on fuel cells in North Carolina. The Alliance is composed of stakeholder groups including industry, academia, and policy makers from across the state. NC Office of Environmental Education The Office of Environmental Education serves as North Carolina's clearinghouse, or central source, for all of the environmental education resources in the state. The office serves PreK 12 schools, colleges and universities, government agencies, non profit organizations, environmental education centers, citizen groups, business and industry, libraries and the general public. North Carolina Compost Council The North Carolina Composting Council, Inc. is an authorized affiliate organization of the US Composting Council as approved by the US Composting Council in April As a state level affiliate, it is charged with promoting those programs and activities of the national US Composting Council. Biofuels Center of North Carolina

The Biofuels Center of North Carolina was funded with a $5 million initial appropriation from the 2007 General Assembly. It is a private, nonprofit corporation headquartered on the 426 acre North Carolina Biofuels Campus in Oxford. It receives continuing funding from the General Assembly to implement North Carolina's Strategic Plan for Biofuels Leadership and to help make the state more energy independent. NC DENR: Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance Information about landfills, recycling and other pollution prevention programs. NC Project Green In the fall of 1998, North Carolina's state government was challenged to set an example of environmental stewardship in the way agencies operate and conduct business. Across state government, this challenge was heard and taken to heart. It was quickly discovered that many agencies were already engaged in numerous activities to reduce the negative effects our actions can have on the environment. Now, NCPG is expanding. With growing interest in energy and water savings, more and more government facilities are adopting sustainability policies and green building requirements, leading to a greater self awareness of the impact government has on our economy and natural resources. Together, we can take NCPG to the next level of development. Save Water NC Web site designed to help North Carolinians learn to use water more efficiently at work, at home, at school and in their communities. To see if your community is currently in a drought, or to learn more about water efficiency, click on the links at left. NC Environmental Stewardship Initiative ESI s mission is to assist organizations in reducing their environmental impacts beyond regulatory requirements and recognize those that achieve and maintain this commitment. Any site-specific regulated organization or entity, whose activities impact the environment, is eligible to apply to the program. This includes, but is not limited to, manufacturers, businesses, agribusiness, service providers, government agencies, schools and nonprofit agencies. Multi-site or single site applications are accepted at the Partner level. NC Rail Trails NCRT monitors the state's rail system, actively pursues corridor preservation, retrieval and conversion to public trails. NCRT fosters local leadership and currently supports local rail trail initiatives throughout the state. NCRT provides coordination between local, state and federal agencies, allied state and national organizations, and project funding sources. A primary instrument in this networking is the NCRT newsletter, "Little Toot," which has been published quarterly since The Board of Directors meets quarterly throughout the state at project locations. The members of the Board represent bicycling, hiking, equestrian, historic, conservation, preservation and economic development interests. TurfFiles Center (NCSU)

Web site created to provide turfgrass information to a diverse audience: homeowners, students, extension personnel, and professional turfgrass managers. Funding for this site has been provided by the Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education (CENTERE) and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Information available on this site has been provided by faculty and staff in the Departments of Crop Science, Entomology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, and Soil Science at NCSU. Although we have concentrated on providing information of interest to citizens of North Carolina, we hope that much of the site content will be useful to those who live outside the borders of North Carolina. North Carolina Wind Energy Today, WIND POWER is more affordable, efficient, and accessible than ever before and North Carolina has outstanding wind resources that are shared with only a fraction of the rest of the nation. Wind power is an excellent option for North Carolina homes, farms, businesses, schools, and utilities interested in producing clean, independent electricity. Please explore this site to learn more about what groups and individuals are doing in the state to harvest wind power. NC Biomass Trader North Carolina's marketplace for biomass, bio based feedstocks, and bio based energy products and fuels. This exchange service is designed to provide a marketplace for biomass materials that can be used in bio based manufacturing, converted to energy, or used in energy generating processes or technologies. NC Organic NC Organic, an internet resource for North Carolina farmers, extension agents, and aspiring growers. Even with the economic recession, the organic sector of agriculture continues to grow, making it the fastest growing segment in the United States. Closer to home, North Carolina consumers are committed to supporting local agriculture while most of our state's organic produce is imported from other states. The demand for organically grown food presents a real opportunity for NC farmers. NC Department of Transportation The N.C. Department of Transportation is one of North Carolina s largest state government agencies, with more than 14,000 employees. NCDOT works hard to provide high quality transportation for travelers throughout North Carolina, including highways, rail, aviation, ferries, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and public transit.

South Carolina SC GreenPower From the mountains to the sea, we all want to protect South Carolina's natural resources. Green Power, electricity generated from methane gas captured at landfills, is offered by Santee Cooper and Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina. It is your opportunity to help protect South Carolina's environment. Green SC South Carolina has a variety programs and resources when it comes to Green Energy. Several programs, like Palmetto Clean Energy, Solar Friendly Communities, and a variety of renewable energy resources such as Wind, Solar, and Geothermal. Below you'll find resources, links and explanations for all the green energy solutions South Carolina has to offer. SC Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Alliance The South Carolina Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Alliance is a non profit partnership of government, business, academia and citizens working together to grow the economies of local communities, the state and the nation, to enable energy security and to limit our environmental footprint with the use of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies that are cost effective, convenient and produced with local resources. Environmental Education in South Carolina Education resources, organizations, calendar of EE events in South Carolina and more. South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control DHEC operates health and environmental regional offices, as well as local health departments and clinics, to ensure that the many programs and services we provide will meet the needs of local areas. Some services are available to all; some have eligibility requirements. Many are free, while others may carry a small charge to help cover expenses. Because each region has a custom mix of services, your local DHEC office will know exactly what services are available in your area and how you can get them. South Carolina Chapter of U.S. Green Building Council As part of our mission, the SC Chapter strives to keep our members and the community at large informed about legislation that has an impact on the green building movement. Please click the links below to see what's new with green legislation affecting South Carolina. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources State agency has resources and information on conservation and land, water and wildlife regulations. SC Department of Transportation Welcome to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, where employees use innovative ways to serve citizens and promote safe and efficient transportation. Our state has much to offer, and we're excited that you've chosen to find out more about SCDOT.
