9 Definitions of Water Security Water Resources Security is a situation in which water resources are available for basic human needs and socioeconomic requirements, ultimately contributing to poverty reduction, relevant ecosystem services are provided based on a healthy status of aquatic and water-dependent ecosystems, risks related to water especially in the context of climate change are reduced or mitigated, and conflicts among different users and interest groups over the use and/or protection of water resources are prevented or mitigated and forced migration related to resource degradation is avoided.
