TRI-STATE PUMP & SEPTIC SUPPLY February 20, 2010
We service New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania We specialize in alternative septic system products We offer products, service, support and training
Welcome Alternative Septic Systems Overview Permitting for Alternative Septic Systems DEP Requirements for Maintenance Overview of demonstrated products: American Manufacturing Perc Rite Drip Dispersal Bord na Mona Puraflo Peat Fibre Treatment System SeptiTech Aerobic Treatment Unit Eljen Gravel less Technology Infiltrator Chambers Time Dosing Control Panels Live Demonstration of products
WHERE ARE ALTERNATIVE SEPTIC SYSTEMS APPROPRIATE FOR USE? For sites that do not have suitable soils Sites that are too close to ground or surface water, lakes or streams, drinking wells, high water tables. Ideal for sites with steep slopes or wooded lots Sites that are space constricted and may require a variance Shallow depth to restrictive layer or rock ***None of the alternative septic system products you will see today use chemicals in the treatment process, making the effluent safer to put back into the ground once treated. ***
Aerobic Treatment Units May be allowed for new construction and expanded project or to alter an existing malfunctioning system. In all cases, these systems must have final construction approval issued by the local administrative authority New and expanded projects are allowed provided the treatment system is in addition to and not in lieu of any part of a system that meets all of the requirements of N.J.A.C. 7:9A All other proposals for use of ATU s for new and expanded projects that differ from the requirements of N.J.A.C 7:9A must apply for a Treatment Works Approval (TWA).
Peat Biofilter Treatment Systems May be allowed for new construction and expanded project or to alter an existing malfunctioning system. In all cases, these systems must have final construction approval issued by the local administrative authority New and expanded projects are allowed provided the treatment system is in addition to and not in lieu of any part of a system that meets all of the requirements of N.J.A.C. 7:9A All other proposals for use of this technology for new and expanded projects that differ from the requirements of N.J.A.C 7:9A must apply for a Treatment Works Approval (TWA).
Drip Dispersal Systems May be allowed for new construction and expanded project or to alter an existing malfunctioning system. In all cases, these systems must have final construction approval issued by the local administrative authority Proposals for use of a drip dispersal system for new and expanded projects must be directed to the DEP for a TWA. The location of the onsite wastewater treatment system must conform to all provisions of N.J.A.C. 7:9A for new and expanded systems. The site must be able to support an individual subsurface sewage disposal system, which meets strict conformance with the requirements of N.J.A.C 7:9A

A method used to distribute wastewater that has received at least primary treatment over an area of land for final polishing, reuse, or recharge of groundwater. Capable of uniformly distributing wastewater effluent over large areas. It has been used in the US for dispersal of preconditioned wastewater onto soil infiltrative surfaces since the late 1980 s.
Guaranteed Uniform Distribution Easily Utilize Multiple drain field areas Preservation of Turf, Shrubs, and Trees Minimal Site Disturbance Shallow placement Time Dosed (flow equalization) Solids Removal (Disc filtration) Automatic Distribution System Flushing
Filtration Unit House Treatment Tank Well Property Line Pump Tank Drip Tubing (2 Feet On Center) Shed PATENT NO. 5,200,065
Mechanical barrier to protect emitters Auto flushed at pre-set time, volume or differential pressure settings. Flushes each filter for seconds. 115 micron filtration 7 to 1 filtration ratio
Model # DP0-B9114 Pump H-O-A Switch
Pressure Compensating Emitters Drip tubing Installed Along Contour Air Release / Vacuum Breaker Valves allow the P.C. tubing to drain into the soil after each dose. Insulate Valve Boxes Force Mains below frost line Maintain denser turf cover during winter. Elevate distal loops of PVC flex pipe
Flex PVC Loops at distal ends of drip runs. Keep elevated for drainage after pump shuts off. Insulated Valve Box housing ARV s & Solenoid Valves
All PercRite drip dispersal systems are equipped with a heater to protect the Headworks from freezing in cold climates. The heater is thermostatically controlled to extend the service life and minimize energy consumption

Bord na Móna Puraflo Peat Biofilter for Wastewater Treatment For Use With Homes, Offices, Parks, Schools and Clusters of Homes Bord na Móna
Puraflo Peat Biofilter Biofilter Modules (1 per bedroom) Septic Tank Pump Tank Panel Effluent Filter Bord na Móna
Design Polyethylene Modules - High strength & durability Each module 7.08ft x 4.58ft x 2.5ft Wastewater from one bedroom Wastewater from 2 no. people Wastewater up to 150 gals/day Max design Organic Loading = lbs/sq ft/d Max design Organic Loading per module = lbs/d Max design Hydraulic Loading = 5.57 gpd/ sq ft Max design Hydraulic Loading per module = 150 gal/d Bord na Móna
Puraflo Wastewater Treatment Technologies Modular Peat Filter Assembly
Bord na Móna Design continued. Effluent percolates through biofilter & emerges as clear innocuous liquid from base of system. Modules designed to allow 2 different disposal options Option 1 Option 2 Weep holes at base perimeter Discharge directly to gravel pad underneath Collection via outlet at base of modules Dispersal elsewhere or re-use.
What is Peat fibre? Peat fibre is made up largely of the undecomposed roots of bog cotton and bog sedges. Accounts for about 1-2% of peat in Ireland Extracted using specially developed screening system Peat is air dried - retains very specific moisture content (horticultural peat is usually heat dried - permanently changes the structure and properties of the peat) Serves as excellent growth medium for microorganisms Durable media with long life expectancy
Advantages of Media selected for Puraflo Peat Biofilter High hydraulic Loading rates without ponding Physical, Chemical & Biological treatment Withstands temperature & ph fluctuations Maintains an aerobic environment Conditions facilitate growth of microorganisms No biomat maintenance on media Harmful bacteria are outcompeted and die off
Site Conditions for Puraflo High and low permeability soil conditions Shallow depth to ground water (6 inch min.) Shallow depth to restrictive layer or rock In flood zones the modules can be elevated on a platform under the house & piped to ground Modules can be sunk level with ground surface Wooded areas, small & sloping sites can be used Sandy fill material can be used to provide additional vertical separation A smaller percolation area is used due to the pre-treatment Bord na Móna
Puraflo Dispersal Options Underdrain from the biofilter modules to gravel pad through module weep holes Pipe from the biofilter modules to shallow trenches under gravity Collect and pumped to trenches under pressure (LPP, drip or shallow pipe) Collect and re-use Bord na Móna
Puraflo Intermittent & Seasonal Use Period of reduced wastewater flow Bacteria and fungi form spores Non spore forming organisms Remain in dormant inactive state Some M.O. s and higher life forms persist and feed on residual biomass Peat remains effective physical and chemical filter Fresh supply of wastewater microorganisms quickly resuscitate system reactivates and becomes fully efficient Minimum time lag Bord na Móna
Key Benefits of the Puraflo System Small area required( 25 ft by 8 ft in Group I soils) Low operating and maintenance costs Straight forward installation of packaged system Two year warranty Odor free Media life expectancy around 15 years 100% natural system - no additives High quality performance Bord na Móna
