4 Minnesota Human Relations Verification Chart Minnesota Human Relations Requirement The Minnesota Human Relations requirement is a state mandate (Minnesota Rule Chapter ) for all applicants for teacher licensure in Minnesota. The Human Relations Requirement requires licensure applicants to show evidence of the following: Understanding the contributions and lifestyles of the various racial, cultural, and economic groups in our society. Recognizing and dealing with dehumanizing biases, discrimination, and prejudices. Creating learning environments that contribute to the self-esteem of all persons and to positive interpersonal relations. Respecting human diversity and personal rights. The study of American Indian language, history, government, and culture. You may fulfill this requirement through one of the following: 1. Graduate from a Minnesota teacher preparation program. Verified by licensure recommendation. 2. Graduate from a teacher preparation program in Iowa, Ohio, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wisconsin. Minnesota has reciprocity for Human Relations with these states. Verified by licensure recommendation. 3. Evidence of program completion through Peace Corps, Americorps, Vista or Teacher Corps. 4. Document completion of one of Minnesota s approved Human Relations Programs via a transcript or completion certificate. These programs are designed for applicants prepared outside of Minnesota and are offered throughout the state. Applicants prepared outside of Minnesota may be granted a one-year temporary license to teach while completing a human relations program. Option: If you have not completed one of the above, but believe you can demonstrate meeting all five of the Human Relations components/objectives, you may submit evidence via the following process: Human Relations Verification Chart on the next page. Complete the Verification Chart and attach verifying documents (course descriptions from college catalog, course syllabi). Documentation must clearly address each of the five elements of the human relations requirements. NOTE: If you select to submit human relations verification via the Verification Process don t wait for your temporary license to expire. This review takes time, and if all components are not met, you will need to complete an approved course prior to the expiration of your license. Remember, your license cannot be renewed without satisfying the Human Relations Requirements.
