3 The Government Alliance on Race & Equity (GARE) A national network of government jurisdictions: Committed to achieving racial equity and advancing opportunities for all Focused on their own institutional practices, power and influence Working in partnerships with community and others Joint project of the UC Berkeley Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society (HIFIS) and the Center for Social Inclusion (CSI)
4 Why did we accept and maintain our membership in GARE? Decades of persistent and growing disparities Builds on county s long history Current political proposals and actions Implementation happens at the local level Must be intentional Proactive to curb further negative impacts GARE provides tools, resources, and a learning environment to help.
5 GARE is active in over 150 government jurisdictions.
6 In 2016, GARE launched two California (CARE) cohorts.
7 All of the jurisdictions are applying GARE s framework and approach to their work Normalize A shared analysis and definitions Urgency/Prioritize Visualize Operationalize Racial equity tools Data to develop strategies and drive results Organize Internal infrastructure Partnerships
